This invention relates to improvements in containers and has particular reference to containers from which a commodity may be poured.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a pouring spout for a container without increasing the cost of manufacture of the device.

A further object is to produce a device wherein the container is not structurally weakened in any manner.

A further object is to provide a device wherein the assembly of the container may be readily accomplished and also to produce a device wherein the container may be packed flat and without having any serious projections extending upwardly from the flat container.

There are many commodities which are packed in cartons, which may be readily poured from the carton but due to the lack of proper facilities it is customary to tear off the end of the carton, thus exposing the contents. With applicants device a spout is incorporated in the manufacture of the carton, which spout automatically folds when the carton is being formed and which is instantly available when a person wishes to'remove a portion of the contents from the carton.

In the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a blank, out of which a carton is ordinarily formed and as this blank may be made in any desired shape, further comment on its features of folding will be omitted for the reason that it is obvious that when the same is folded upon the dotted lines and the margins glued, it will form a container as shown in Fig. 1. detail of the carton. Glued to the carton upon its inner surface is a spout having a central portion A and side portions B and C. These side portions form wings when bent upon score lines '1 and 8. Slits 9 and 11 separate a part of the portion A from the'sides B and C. A scoring 12 extends between the inner ends of the slits 9 and 11. This spout thus formed is glued or otherwise secured to the blank 5 so that the portion A overlies that 'portion of the carton defined by the scoring 6, which portion is designated by the numeral 13. Stops 14 and 16 are formed upon the sides B and C.

The result of this construction is that when the blank 5 is folded in the usual manner to form a carton the sides B and C will be bent at right angles along the score lines 7 and 8 to the portion A. Therefore, when a person wishes to disof a carton it is only neces-' pense the contents sary to cut on the dotted line and to pull outwardly on the portion '13 with the result that the spout will move to the position of Fig. 2 and when it reaches this position the stops 14 and 16 will prevent further movement.

It will thus be seen that I have produced a device which is extremely simple, economical to manufacture and one which may be applied to any form of carton.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of-parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim. c

Having thus described my invention, I claim:--

In combination with a carton having a scored portion, a spout provided with a central portion, said central portion being adhesively secured to the carton and overlying said scored portion, substantially semi-circular wings formed integral with said centralportion and capable of being bent at right angles to said central portion, stops formed on said wing portions, slits formed in said spout between said central portion and said wings, said slits extending into said spout a sufficient distance to cause their ends to be in alignment with said stops.
