Patented PHOTOGRAPHIC ATTACHMENT FOR FIREARMS Harold C. Hindley and Owen W. Atkin, Santa Monica, Calif., assignors of one-third to Philip Fisher, Santa Monica, Calif.
Application January 24, 1933, Serial No. 653,334 2 Claims. (oi. 95-12) This invention relates to improvements in firearms and has particular reference to a photographic attachment for use with the firearm whereby a picture will be taken simultaneously with the firing of a gun, for the purpose of recording the object at which the gun is fired.
A further object is to produce a device which may be attached to any ordinary firearm.
A further object is to produce a device which is simple in construction and therefore one which will not become easily damaged.
A still further object is to produce a device which is economical to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
The figure is a side elevation of a firearm having our invention applied thereto and partly shown in cross section.
When the police are attempting to apprehend a criminal and fire'a gun for that purpose it would be very helpful, in case of escape of the criminal, to ascertain the identity of the criminal. Therefore, it is of considerable importance that a record be made simultaneously with the firing of the gun. Applicants have accomplished this in a novel manner and by referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 designates any firearm, such as a revolver, but it is obvious that our invention may be applied to a shot gun or other weapon. The only difference in the construction of the firearm is that the trigger 6 has attached thereto an auxiliary trigger 7.
Attached to the firearm is a housing 8, to the front end of which is secured a lens mount 9 in which a lens 11 is positioned. A shutter mechanism is actuated by a cable 12, which cable extends through a tube 13 and is attached to the trigger 7. Within the housing 8 are reels 13 and 14. A film 16 passes from the reel 13 to the reel 14. Arms 17 arranged upon the spool 14 are adapted to be engaged by the end of a pusher rod .18 'which passes through a tube 19 in the housing I 8 and is connected to the auxiliary trigger 7. A spring 21 bears against a stop 22 carried upon the rod 18 and also against the trigger guard of the The result of this construction is that when the trigger is pulled by the trigger finger, when the finger is in the position A, both the triggers 6 and 7 will be actuated, the gun will be fired and the shutter mechanism will be actuated. Upon the return movement of the trigger, the pusher rod 18 will engage the next arm 17 and cause a partial rotation of the spool 14 thus moving a new unexposed portion of film into alignment with the lens 11. The spring 21 serves to return the pusher and auxiliary trigger to their normal position. If it is desired to only take a photograph, then the finger is moved to the position B, shown in dotted lines, and merely the auxiliary trigger is actuated.
It will thus be seen that our device will accomplish all the objects above set forth.
It is to be understood that the form of our invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described our invention, we claim:-
1. In combination with a firearm, of a camera secured thereto, said camera including a lens, a shutter and a film support, an auxiliary trigger secured to said firearm, and capable of simultaneous actuation with the trigger of said firearm, a push arm secured to said auxiliary trigger and adapted to have its free end positioned in said camera mechanism to cause actuation of said film support after said firearm trigger is actuated, and a cable extending between said auxiliary trigger and said shutter.
2. In combination with a firearm, of a camera secured thereto, said camera including a lens, a shutter and a film support, said firearm having a trigger, of an auxiliary trigger secured to said firearm trigger and capable of simultaneous actuation with the trigger of said firearm, a push rod secured to said auxiliary trigger and adapted to have its free end in said camera mechanism, whereby said film support is actuated after each movement of the trigger, and a cable extending between said auxiliary trigger and said shutter, whereby said shutter is actuated at each actuation of said auxiliary trigger.
