Description

J. W. MUN'DAY. TEMPORARY-BINDERS.
No. 195,226, Patented Sept.18, 1877.
. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. MUNDAY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT |N TEMPORARY BINDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 195,226., dated September 18,1877; application filed August 27, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. MUNDAY, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Letter-Files, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is an end view of the file closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same, showing it partially open, as when a letter is to be inserted or removed. Fig. 3 is a flat view of the folio; and Fig. 4 is a fiat view of one of the index-sheets removed from the folio.
Like letters of reference denote like parts 'in the several figures.
In the said drawings, A represents a portfolio made of stiflish material, and provided with a flexible back, B. The lids of the folio are attached together at each end by an elastic guard, O, which serves the triple purpose of preventing the contents of the portfolio from slipping out at the ends, holding the lids closed when the file is laid aside, and of preventing the lids from being separated too far apartin opening the file.
Within the portfolio are placed a series of loose index-sheets, D, as shown at Fig. 2. This completes the file.
In use, the letters E E to be filed are simply slipped loose into place between the indexleaves, and when the file is full the whole may be stored away.
I claim The letter-file consisting of a portfolio having stiff lids and a flexible back, in combination with the loose index-sheets and the elastic guards attached to the ends of the lids at both ends, substantially as specified.
JOHN W. MUN DAY.
