Description

W. c. ALKEN. CLOTHES-DRYING RACK.
No. 195,202, i Patented Sept.18l,1877.
UNITED STATES PATENT @Ei-FICE,V
WILL C. AIKEN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
- IMPROVEMENT iN cLoTHEs-DRYING RAcKs.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 195.202, dated September 18, 18.77; application filed December 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILL C. AIKEN, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Racks for Drying Clothes, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same closed.
The object of my invention is to furnish a rack for drying small clothes in a very compact form, and still capable of holding a large number of articles; and the invention consists of a frame hinged so as to be opened and closed when desired, the fixed part of the frame being attached atits upper part to a bracketshelf to be hung on a wall, so that the said fixed part of the frame shall slant or lean for- Ward, whereby the rounds of the frame for holding the clothes shall not be over one another, enabling the clothes to be hung thereon Without interfering. The shelf is also convenient and useful for laying small articles on, such as collars and cuis for drying and airing.
In the drawings, A is the rack, made in two parts, and hinged together at the bottom, so that they may be separated, as seen in Fig. 1. At the top of the frame there are two straps, B, attached, having holes for holding the folding part ofthe frame in position. To the upper part of the permanent portion of the frame is secured a bracket-shelf, C, in such a manner as to hold said part of frame outward in a slanting position when hung on a Wall, the shelf having screw-eyes for hanging it by. It will be seen by the foregoing that the rack hangs very close to the Wall, occupying but very little room, and the rounds are so arranged that many articles can be hung on it Without interfering with one another.
Having described my invention, I claim- The combination of the double folding rack A, the shelf C, and straps B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.y
WILL C. AIKEN.
