This'invention relates to decorative devices such as Christmas wreaths and is particularly directed to highly improved means for mounting an illuminating device on a wreath.
5 Among the objects of my invention is to provide a simple, strong and rugged device of the character described which shall be extremely cheap to manufacture, easy to manipulate, for mounting a candle simulating tubular member on a wreath, and withal practical and efiicient to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements,
and arrangement of parts which will beexemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a wreath provided with a mounting device embodying the invention, with parts broken away to show the interior construction;

Referring now in detail to the drawing, 10 designates a decorative body here shown in the form of an annular Christmas wreath of substantially semi-annular cross-section, and having a cardboard or like annular frame 11 around 50 which is wound a decorative cord 12. Mounted on said wreath 10 by means of a mounting device 15 embodying the invention, and hereinafter described in detail, is a tubular candle simulating member 13 in the upper portion of which there 5 is fixed a lamp socket 14 receiving an electric lamp 14a, here shown, for the purpose of illustration, as being provided with a miniature candle flame simulating tapering bulb.
Said mounting member 15 is preferably made of a single piece of ordinary strong spring wire bent and shaped into general U-shape, and comprises a pair of downwardly extending arms 16 and 17. The arm 16 comprises spaced portions 18 and 19 interconnected at the bottom by portion 20; and the arm 17 comprising spaced portions 21 and 22 interconnected at the bottom by portion 23. The portions 18 and 21 are interconnected at the top by the portion 24 and the portions 19, 22 are interconnected at the top thereof by portion 25. The portions 18, 19 may be bowed outwardly in one direction and the portions 21, 22 bowed outwardly in the opposite direction. A portion of the wreath body 10 may be placed between said arms 16, 17. The top portion of the arms 16 and 1'7 may then be inserted into the lower end of the candle member 13, and said member pushed downwardly for pressing the arms 16, 1'7 together, for tightly gripping the wreath and clamping the candle thereto. 30
The mounting device 15 may be made of a single piece of wire and a sleeve 27 fixed to one end 28 of the wire, for slidably receiving the adjacent end 29 of said wire, thus forming a continuous member.
In Figs. 4 and 5 there is shown another embodiment of the invention in the form of a, mounting device 30 of general U-shape comprising upwardly extending arms 31 and 32. The arm 31 may comprise spaced wire portions 33 and 34 interconnected at the top by portion 35. The arm 32 may comprise two parallel spaced wire portions 36 and 37. The wire portions 36. 3'7 preferably form extensions of the wire portions 33 and 34 respectively, whereby the entire mounting device may be made of a single piece of spring wire. The portions 33 and 34 are preferably bent into semi-circular shape whereas the wire portions 36 and 37 are straight. The wreath may thus be placed between arms 31 and 32 and the upper portions of said arms 31, 32 thereafter pressed together and inserted into the tubular member 13, said arms being retained by said member in position for tightly gripping the body of said wreath. It will be noted that the arm 32 will be disposed against the rear portion 01' the wreath whereas the curved wire portions 33,
34 will extend about the front semi-circular portion of the wreath.
In the modification shown in Figs. 6 and '7,
the mounting device 40 is likewise made of a single piece of bent and shaped spring wire forming a generally U-shaped loop having upwardly extending arms 41, 42 adapted to receive the wreath body therebetween. The arm 42 comprises a pair of upstanding spaced wire ends 45, 46 adapted to be inserted within the tubular member 13, whereas the arm 41 comprises wire portions 43 and 44 adapted to receive the lower end of said member therebetween. and interconnected by a substantially semi-annular curved portion 47 disposed in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of said arm and engaging the outer side of said member. The arm 41 thus presses against the inner surface of a portion of said member 13, in one direction, and the arm-42 presses the outer surface of said portion in the opposite direction, thus clamping the tube firmly in place on the wreath. The arms 41, 42 must be pressed together to permit the arm 42 to enter the inside of the tube and portion 47 to embrace the outside of the tube as illustrated in Fig. 6. The wreath body is thus clamped by said arms which are retained in clamping position by the tubular member 13.
It will now be clearly understood that the mounting devices are provided with a pair of arms adapted to grip the wreath body therebetween, and that each arm comprises two spaced wire portions whereby the body is gripped at spaced portions thereon, for firmly mounting the illuminating unit thereon. Furthermore, the mounting devices are of general U-shape having arms adapted to be pressed together for tightly gripping the wreath body and are adapted to be retained in gripping position by the candle simulating member.
In Figs. 8 and 9 there is shown a mounting device 50 likewise made of sprin wire and having a coiled tubular portion 51 from which there extends a pair of arms 52 and 53 adapted to receive the wreath body therebetween. Themember 50 may likewise be made of a single piece of wire. To this end, there extends from the coil 51 a wire portion 55 bent upwardly as at 56 to form the arm 52. Extending from the portion 56 is a wire portion 5'? likewise bent backwardly as at 58 to form the second arm 53. The arms 52 and 53 are so shaped as to tightly grip the wreath body therebetween and the tubular coiled portion 51 is of such diameter as to tightly grip the interior of the tubular member 13 whereby said member may be firmly mounted on the wreath.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing, is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A Christmas wreath comprising, in combination, a wreath body, a tubular candle simulating member, a socket attached to the upper end of said member, conductors attached to the terminals of said socket and extending through the lower end of said member, and means for mounting said member on the wreath body, comprising a resilient member having arms disposed about said body to grip the same, portions of said arms being inserted within the lower end of said tubular member for retaining said arms in gripping position.
2. In combination with an annular wreath and a tubular candle simulating member, means for mounting said member on said wreath comprising a member made of a single piece of bent and shaped wire having a pair of upstanding arms receiving a portion of said wreath therebetween. each arm comprising a pair of spaced wires, said arms being interconnected at the bottom thereof, the wire portions of one of said arms being interconnected at the top thereof, and the top portions of both of said arms being inserted into the bottom end. of said tubular member for causing said arms to grip said portions of said wreath.
3. In combination with a wreath, a tubular candle simulating member, and means for mounting said member on said wreath comprising a substantially U-shaped member having a pair of upstanding arms, receiving a portion of said wreath therebetween, the upper end of one of said arms being inserted into said tubular member, and the upper end of said other arm extending about the exterior of said tubular member, said arms being adapted to grip opposite surfaces of a portion of said candle.
4. In combination witha body, and a tubular member, means for mounting said tubular member on said body, comprising a U-shaped member having clamping arms engaging opposite sides of said body, and adapted to be pressed together for gripping said body, the free ends of said arms engaging said tubular member for supporting the latter and retaining said arms in gripping position.
5-. A Christmas wreath comprising, in combination, a wreath body, a tubular candle simulating member, and means for mounting said member on said wreath comprising a U-shaped member having arms disposed on opposite sides of said wreath, and the free ends of said arms'being in engagement with said candle simulating member for retaining said arms in gripping position.
