Description
INVENTOR ATTORNEY -fls Feb 6, l934 R. G. HEMPHILL FOUNTAIN SHAVING BRUSH Filed Feb. 2, 1933 Patented Feb. 6, 1934 UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE lclaim.
This invention relates to shaving brushes of the fountain type and has for the primary object, the provision of means to receive and contain a conventional type of soap container and to dispense 5 its contents to the bristles of the brush as needed when lathering the face prior to shaving.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts l to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the followingdescription and accompanying drawing, in which l Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a shaving brush constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view illustrating the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective view illustrating a retaining ring.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating the brush head.
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view illustrating a modiiled form of my invention. t
Figure I is a plan view illustrating the operating medium employed in my modified form of invention. f
Referring in detail to the drawing-the numeral 1 indicates a cylinder forming a. handle for the brush and is provided with screw threads 2 upon the inner .walls thereof and the outer wall of said cylinder at one end thereof is provided with screw threads to receive an internally threaded cap 3. The other vend of the cylinder 1 receives a brush head 4 carrying bristles 5 and said brush head is provided with an annular groove in which is positioned 'a ring 6 secured to the cylinder by set screws 'i for the purpose of rotatably securing the head to the cylinder and permit removal of the head from the cylinder when desired. The head 4 has formed centrally thereof a passage 8, the outer end of which terminating within the bristles 5 and the opposite end being enlarged or flared to form on the inner end of the head a substantially conical shaped seat 9. The walls cylinder and is provided with a slot 14 and oppositely beveled faces 15. The sealed end of the container 1l passes through the slot 14, as shown in Figure 2, and during the rotation of the cylinder, the operating medium 13 will be compelled to slide 00 endwise of the cylinder and compress the container thereby forcing the contents through the bore 8 to the bristles 5. The cylinder 1 besides forming a handle to the brush provides a closure for the container l1 and also a medium for effect- '35 ing sliding movement of the operating'medium 13'. Referring to my modified form of. invention, as shown in Figure-s6 and 7, a cylinder 17 is provided having a brush head 18 similar in construction to the head 4 threaded therein. The con- 70 tainer 11 is placed in the cylinder 1'7 and threaded to the head 18 as usual. Slots 19 are formed in the cylinder and receive finger pieces 20 formed on an operating medium 21 similarly constructed' to the operating medium 13, except for the screw threads. To remove the contents of the container 11, the finger pieces 20 are gripped and moved along the slots 19. causing the contents to flow into the bristles. As shown in Figure 8 a suitable cover 22 may nt over the bristles and onto the 8 vheed 18 to protect the bristles from foreign matter during non-use of the brush.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment oi my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination 435 and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as claimed.
Having described the invention, I claim:-
A shaving brush comprising a head having a bore provided with screw threads and a flared portion to form a conical seat to be engaged by the. conical end of a collapsible container with the discharge neck thereof threaded in the bore, b ristles on the head, a ring journaled tothe head, a cylinder receiving the head and secured to the ring with the container located therein, and means engaging the container and caused to slide by the rotation of the cylinder for squeezing the container to force the contents thereof through the bore onto the bristles.
