HUMIDOR Filed July 21 Patented lDec. 5, 1933 PATENT OFFICE nUMrnoR Wendell M. Hauch, New York, N. Y.; Flora F. Hauch administratrix of said Wendell M.
Hench, deceased Application July 21, 1931. Serial No. 552,171
3 Claims.
This invention relates to smokers appliances, and more particularly it pertains to humidors for the proper conditioning of cigarettes, cigars and tobacco.
It is one or" the objects of the present invention to provide a device of the aiore-mentioned character which will be highly enicient for the purposes intended, and which will be cheap of manufacture.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a novel construction whereby a moistening element may be housed entirely within a humidor cover and yet effectively give off moisture to the interior of the humidor.
It is a further object of the invention so to construct a moistening element container that in the event of supersaturation of the moistening element, and discharge of the moistening fluid therefrom, the discharged fluid will be retained in the moistening elem nt container, and prevented from dripping onto the contents of the iumidor.
A still further object of the invention resides O i in a novel construction whereby the moistening element may be readily removed and replaced without damage to any of the parts of the device. A still further object of the invention resides in a novel construction which will permit of the 30 complete removal of the moistening element and tion of parts, the nature of which will be better appreciated as the nature of the invention is better understood, and from the accompanying drawing, wherein;
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a humidor constructed in accordance with the present invention, and;
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, a humidor constructed in accordance with the present invention includes a body 1% and a cover 11, the cover being removably associated with the body. The body 10 may be of any desired shape, and a liner 12 and partitions 19 be employed to provide a plurality of compartments upon the interior thereof.
The cover 11 is formed with a handle 13 and it is entirely within this handle portion that the moistening element is carried in this form of the invention. The handl portion 13 is so formed as to provide an internal annular portion shoulder 14 and the moistening element carrier which is designated 15 in the drawing is constructed to have snap engagement and disengagement with this shoulder in placing or removing the same relative to the cover.
The moistening element carrier 15 consists of a main body portion having a depression 16 therein, and integral with this body portion, and extending radially from the upper edge thereof, there are arms 17 of which there are preferably three. These arms 17 are bowed in the direction of their length to provide resiliency in said arms and thereby afford means for removably retaining the moistening element container within the cover of the humidor as will now be explained.
Each of the arms is preferably provided upon its outer end with. an enlarged portion 25 which is adapted to engage behind the shoulder 14 of the cover to retain the moistening element in 1 position in the cover. 5
In the present embodiment of the invention, I have illustrated the moistening element as consisting of a sponge 18, but it is to be understood that any other type of moistening element desired may be employed.
When the parts are in the position shown in Figure 1 of the drawing, to remove the moistening element carrier, it is only necessary to grasp the moistening element container and exert a slight pull thereon, whereupon through the mediumof the resiliency of the arms 1'7, the enlarged portions 25 will ride over the shoulder 14 and permit of complete removal of the moistening element carrier and the .moistening element contained therein. 90
When it is desired to position the moistening element container within the cover, it is only necessary to place the same in position in the cover, exert a slight pressure upon the bottom thereof, whereupon the enlarged portions 25 will through the medium of the resiliency of the arms 17, snap behind the shoulder 14 to the position shown in Figure 1, and serve to retain the moistoning element container in the position shown Thus it will be readily apparent that the present invention provides a new and novel construction in humidors which provides for the ready removal and attachment of a moistening element container without damage to any of the several parts. Furthermore, the construction employed is simple and cheap of manufacture.
While the invention has been herein illustrated in what may be termed a preferred form, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the precise construction herein set forth, and that it may be practiced in other forms without departing from the spirit of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and what it is desired to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is;
1. A moistening element carrier for attachment to humidors, said carrier comprising a body portion, resilient arms extending from said moistening element carrier for removable engagement with the cover, said arms tapering towards their outer ends to provide openings for communication between the interior of the moistening element carrier and the humidor body.
2. A moistening element carrier comprising a
