IMPROVEMENT IN TRAVELING-BAGS, SATCHELS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,523, dated July 24, 1877 application filed June 26, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM O. KRIGK, of Newark, in the county of Essex, and in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traveling- Bags and Valises; and do hereby declare that In order to enable others skilled in the art.
to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a traveling-bag embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the door or partition.
A represents the traveling-bag, and B is the interior door or partition. This partition B has a rigid hingepiece, 0, attached to and forming part thereof, said hinge-piece being made of pasteboard, wood, metal, or other suitable material, and acts as a support to or hinge of the door or partition.
By reference to Fig. 2, it will be seen that this hinge-pieceis entirely separate from the body of the door or partition, but connected thereto by the covering on both sides.
The door or partition B is fastened to the bag or valise by means of swiveled keys D and slotted plates D, commonly known to the trade as swivels and olives, but it may be fastened with hooks and eyes, staples and pins, or by any other suitable or convenient means.
By this invention the manufacture of these articles is cheapened, and they are rendered more desirable, for the owner can remove the door or partition to pack larger articles in, if found convenient; and the manufacturer can nest a line of bags into one-half the space required in the ordinary way for transportation to distant points, thus making a large saving in the cost of shipping.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A door or partition for traveling-bags,
valises, 860., provided with a rigid hinge-piece attached to and forming part thereof, as herein set forth.
2. In a traveling-bag, valise, or other similar article, a detachable door or partition, provided with a rigid hinge-piece and suitable fastening devices, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of June, 1877.
ADAM O. KRIOK.
