Description

NOV. 7, s A D S WRAPPER FOR POULTRY HEADS Filed Feb. 11. 1952 MMVtOl I; StephenAPogy/ad Patented Nov. 7, 1933 UNITED STATES WRAPPER FOR POULTRY HEADS Stephen A. Douglas, Cincinnati, Ohio, assignor, by mesne assignments, to The Kroger Grocery & Baking Company, poration of Ohio Application February 11, 1932.
2 Claims.
My invention relates to an improved means and method of wrapping the heads of fowls while on display in the market, for the purpose of not only concealing the natural unattractiveness of the part but also to give a distinctive and identifying appearance to'the fowl as an article of merchandise, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to accomplish the wrapping of the head of the fowl by the use of a single sheet of paper out in such a form as to be wrapped around the object and then be securely retained by means of folding the edges upon themselves, thereby doing away with the need of any other retaining device, as cord or adhesive tape.
Another object is to provide such wrappers by forming them of appropriate material upon which the stores name has been printed repeatedly on the outside as a means of advertisementand identification of the seller with the goods.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent as the description proceeds.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, which is made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure l is a view of a sheet of wrapping paper out of the design contemplated by the invention and with a fowls head indicated in position to be wrapped,
Figure 2, a view of the head when the wrapping has been completed, and
Figure 3, a section on dotted line 33 of Figure 2.
The wrapper consists of a blank 10 of paper or other appropriate material having a long (13 inches for example) upper edge 11 and a short (4 inches for example) lower edge 12 which is parallel with the upper edge. The left edge 13 is cut at an angle (as approximately 25 degrees) with the edge 11 while the right edge 14 is cut at a greater angle (as 50 degrees) with the edge 11. Said edge 14 is preferably formed with an angle as at a, that part from said angle a to the edge 11 being longer (approximately 5 inches) than the length of the part from said point to edge 12 (approximately 4 inches) and at a slightly less angle, whereby said part or flap (as A) may more readily be folded into the completed form. The fowls head is positioned on the wrapper in a position as indicated in Figure 1 with the top of the head spaced about one and onefourth inches from the top edge 11. It is then wrapped by folding first edge 13 around the head and then edge 14. This produces a cone-shaped wrapping with the corner marked A protruding as a flap. This corner or flap is then folded down inside the cone and pushed down alongside the head of the fowl and the entire upper edges of the wrapper are then turned or folded down Cincinnati, Ohio, a cor- Serial No. 592,404
inside the cone to form a neat top and at the same time secure the wrapper around the head without the necessity of cord or tape.
This wrapper affords a neat means of obscuring the unsightly head of the fowl and one that may be easily applied because of its simplicity of design, requiring only a few seconds to complete the wrapping. The name of the seller, producer, store or merchant handling or responsible for the goods appearing on the wrapper, as indicated, serves to identify the poultry with its origin for the protection of the purchaser and also to advertise the producer or dealer as the merits of the product justifies.
The angular form resulting in flap A enables the folding to be readily accomplished and the fold more permanently secured.
The dimensions as mentioned herein are of course but illustrative of what has been found suitable for the purpose, but they may be varied as found desirable for any use or purpose, and it will also be understood that I do not limit myself to any details of form or construction except as may be required by the terms of the claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A wrapper for a fowls head comprising a sheet of paper having a short lower edge adapted to encircle the fowls neck, a long upper edge adapted to project above the extremities of the fowls head, a diagonal edge on one side and two diagonal edges angularly related forming the other side, said sheet-being wrapped around said head in such a manner as to provide two projecting tab portions at the upper corners of the sheet, said tab portions being tucked down between the head and the interior surface of the walls of the sheet and said entire upper edge being folded into said wrapper to hold the wrapper in fixed position, substantially as set forth.
2. A wrapper for a fowls head comprising a sheet of paper having a short lower edge adapted to encircle the fowls neck, a long upper edge adapted to project above the extremities of'the fowls head, a diagonal edge on one side and two diagonal edges forming the other side, said sheet being wrapped around said head in such a manner as to provide two projecting tab portions at the upper corners of the sheet, said tab portions being tucked down between the head and the interior surface of the walls of the sheet and said entire upper edge being folded into said wrapper to hold the wrapper in fixed position, substantially as set forth.
