I CLOTHES-BASKET. No. 192,851 Patente'd'J'u1y10,1877.

IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-BASKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,851, dated July 10, 1877; application filed January 20, 1877.
My invention relates to an improvement in portable folding clothes-baskets; and it .consists in theconstruction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a transverse section, of a device embodying my invention.
A represents the basket to receive the clothes, made of any flexible material, both I on the sides and ends, that will admit of its being folded into compact shape, and fastened in any suitable manner to the rods B of the frame.
Said frame is composed of four standards, D, two on either side, the inner standard on each side being pivoted upon, and the outer ones attached firmly to, a rod, 0, near the bottom, so that by opening the upper ends of the standards to which the basket is attached at the same time the two shorter lower portions of the standards on either side spread out and form legs or supports for the basket.
Formerly clothes-baskets were made in such large and bulky form that they were always an inconvenience, whether in use or not, as they were generally made of large size. When not in use they had to be packed away, and much room that might have been usefully employed was thus consumed. In use their size rendered them unable to be managed by one person without an extra exertion of strength.
They were also costly, being generally made of reed.
By my invention it will be readily observed that its being a folding basket allows it to be packed in a very small space; and it ts easily manipulated, and, lastly, very cheaply manufactured.
I am awarethat flexible materialhas been used for folding receptacles, and do not, broadly, claim such as my invention; but,
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I As a new article of manufacture, a portable folding clothes-basket composed of a folding frame, to which is attached -a receptacle of cloth, or such flexible material forming both the sides and ends as may be folded in compact form, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
