(ci. 12o-49) My invention relates to improvements in fountain pen holders, and more particularly to pens of that class in which a protecting sleeve is provided for the pen proper, and which sleeve the movement of the pen holder body relativelyl .to the protecting sleeve is brought into engagement with this sleeve, and as the pen holder body continues its movement opens or closes the cover, the edge of the protecting sleeve serving as a fulcrum for the cover. Therefore, as, dis-s tinguished from the constructions heretofore irnoivn, the cover is not provided with a hinge but has a continuous, uninterrupted supporting surface.
The rod is engaged with or disengaged from `the pen holder body or a part attached thereto rocking the rod around its pivot point on the cover. Since the cover is not provided with a hinge it will permanently rit tightly. No springs or resilient elements beingv used the parts are all positively operated so that the reliability oi the device is increased and the device is made durable. Moreover any injury to the point of the pen is avoided with certainty which might be causedby a failure in the operation oi the cover.
ln order to avoid any injury to the pen holder by turning the outer sleeve relatively to the proc tecting eeve the outer sleeve is freely rotatable on the pen holder so that the pen holder is not rotated even ii the outer sleeve be rotated.

As the bottoni end oi the rod 6 is in contact with the ungrcoved part of the inner wall of .the sleeve 3 the rod can move outwardly only together with Athe protecting sleeve 3. Then as the pen holder continues its upward movement for bringing the pen into writing position the bevelledupper edge of the shoulder 1l strikes against the bevelled stop lo 110 of the rod 6 but this latter can now move outwardly by the depth of the groove 8 and hence may rock around the pivot point '7 into the position shown in Fig. 2. The shoulder 11 is then clear of the rod 6 and may freely continue its upward movement. When the pen holder body is moved inwardly it is out of engagement with the rod 6 until the bottom side of the shoulder strikes against the bottom stop 9 of the rod 6 whereupon the latterY is moved inwardly, and so the bevelled bottom end of this rod reaches the bottom end of the groove 8, and the rod returns into its initial position in whichy the cover 4 bearing against the edge 13 of the sleeve 3 is closed by turning inwards around its point of contact with the edge 13.
A guiding ring 14 may be secured within the protecting sleeve 3 for holding the rod 6 in its proper position and limiting its inward movement. This ring is so thin that it does not interfere with the movements of the shoulder 11.
Instead of the stops 9 andv 10 dogs or, projections may be used.
In the foregoing description it has been assumed for the sake of convenience that the pen holder body may be pulled out and pushed into the protecting sleeve 3 although in fact the protecting sleeve is moved along the pen holder body.
The outer sleeve 1 is so connected with the pen holder body 2 that the two parts cannot move longitudinally the one relatively to the other. Heretofore these two parts have been rigidly connected together. It frequently happens that the outer sleeve 1 is accidentally or inadvertently turned relatively to the protecting sleeve 3 which may result in an injury to the parts or in their breaking. In order to `avoid this, the outer sleeve is freely rotatable around the penholder body but moves together with the said body axially. As shown in .the drawing the outer sleeve 1 is freely rotatable between an annular shoulder 15 in the hollow pen holder body and the outer flange 16 of a plug screwed into the end of the pen holder body.
The outer sleeve 1 is provided as usual with a. cap 17 screwed, thereon, by the removal of which an actuating device 18 for the lling mechanism is uncovered, which may be equipped with a compressible ink hose or with an ink pump.
In order to secure in the fountain pen of this class a uniform flow of the ink to the pen the ink feeder 19 located in the hollow of the pen is provided with an inner channel 21 having preferably a conically enlarged rear end 22 which its outer end communicates with the usual ink groove 20 provided at its periphery neck to the pen.
What I claim is:
1. In a fountain pen holder, the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen and a rocking cover for the said pro-` tecting sleeve, with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating element, means for operatively connecting the said actuating element with the said cover, means for moving the said actuating element relatively to the said protecting sleeve, means for engaging the said element with the said protecting sleeve and disengaging the said element from said protecting sleeve at predetermined relative positions of the said protecting sleeve and the said element, the said means for operatively connecting the said actuating element with the said cover being adapted to force the said cover into the entire periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve and to rock the said coveraround a point of the periphery of the mouth .of the said protecting sleeve.
2. In a fountain pen holder, the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen and a rocking cover forthe said protecting sleeve, with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating element, means for operatively connecting the said actuating element with the said cover, means for moving the said actuating element relatively to the said protecting sleeve, means for engaging the said element with the said protecting sleeve and disengaging the said element from saidprotecting sleeve at predetermined relative positions of the said protecting sleeve and the said element, the said means for operatively connecting the said actuating element with the said cover being adapted to force the said cover into the entire periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve and to rock the said cover around a point of the periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve, the said mouth of the said protecting sleeve and the said cover having continuous uninterrupted contacting surfaces.
3. In a fountain pen holder, the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen and a rocking cover for the said protecting sleeve, with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating element, means for operatively connecting the said actuating element with the said cover, the last named means comprising a lug on the bottom side of the said cover connected to the said actuating element, the said lug being adapted to engage in one of its positions the inner periphery ofl the mouth of the said protecting sleeve, means for moving the said actuating element relatively to the said protecting sleeve, means for engaging the said element with the said protecting sleeve and disengaging the said element from said protecting sleeve at predetermined relative positions of the said protecting sleeve and the said element, the said means for operatively connecting the said actuating element with the said cover being adapted to force the said cover into the entire periphery of the mouth of the 'said protecting sleeve and to rock the said cover around a point of the periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve.
4. In a fountain pen holder, the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen and a rocking cover for the said protecting sleeve, with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating rod, means for of the said stops, when the pen holder body moves in the opposite direction the said means for operatively connecting the said actuating rod with said cover, being adapted to force the said cover into the entire periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve and to rock the nenas said cover around a point of the periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve.
5. In a fountain pen holder, the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen anda rocking cover for the said protecting sleeve with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating rod, means for operatively connecting the said actuating rod with the said cover, means for moving the said actuating rod longitudinally relatively to the said protecting sleeve, the last named means comprising two superposed stops separated from each other by a notch on the said actuating rod and a shoulder on the said pen holder body, the said shoulder being adapted to engage one of the said stops when the pen holder body moves in one direction, and to engage the other of the said stops when the pen holder body moves inV the opposite direction, the said means for operativey connecting the said actuating rod with said cover being adapted to force thelsaid cover into the entire periphery of the mouth of 'the said protecting sleeve and to rock the said cover around a point of the periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve, the said shoulder being furthermore adapted to come'out of engagement with both stops whenever this cover is fully opened.
6. In a fountain pen holder, the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen and a rocking cover for the said protecting sleeve, with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating rod, means for operatively connecting the said actuating Irod with the said cover, means for moving the said actuating rod longitudinally relatively to the saidl protectingfsleeve, the last named means comprising t'wo superposed stops separated from each other by a notch on the said actuating rod and a shoulder on the said pen holder body, the said shoulder being adapted to engage one of the said stops when the pen holder body movesin one direction and to engage the other of the said stops when the pen holder body'moves in the opposite direction, the said -means for operatively connecting the said actuating rod -with said cover being adapted to force the said cover into the entire periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve and to rock the said cover around a point of the periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve, and a longitudinal groove within the said protecting sleeve adapted to receive the said actuating rod.

In a fountain pen holder, the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen and a rocking cover for the said protecting sleeve, with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating rod means for operatively connecting the said actuating rod with the said cover, means for moving the said actuating rod longitudinally relatively to the said protecting sleeve, the last named means comprising two superposed stops separated from each other by a notch on the said actuating said cover being adapted to force the said cover into the entire periphery of the mouth o! the said protecting sleeve and to rock the said cover around a point of the periphery of the mouth of the said protecting sleeve, and a longitudinal groove within the said protecting sleeve adapted to receive the said actuating rod, the bottom end of any of the said parts' actuating rod and longitudinal groove being bevelled.
8. Ina fountain pen holder, the combination oi' a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve for the pen and a rocking cover for the said protecting sleeve, with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating rod, means for operatively connecting the said actuating rod with the said cover means for moving the said actuating rod longitudinally relatively to they said protecting sleeve, the last named means comprising twoA superposed stops separated Vfrom each other by a notch on the said actuating rod and a shoulder on the said pen holder body, the said shoulder being bevelled on its top face and the upper stop being bev elled on its bottom side and the said shoulder being adapted to 'engage one oi the said stops when the pen holder body moves in one direction and to engage the other of the said stops whenthe pen holder body moves in the opposite direction, the said means operatively connecting the said actuating rod with the said cover.
9. In a fountain pen holder the combination of a pen holder body, a protecting sleeve rfor the pen and a rocking cover for the said protecting `sleeve with an actuating mechanism for the said cover comprising an actuating rod, means for operatively connecting the said actuating rod with the said cover, means for moving the said actuating rod longitudinally relatively to the said. protecting sleeve, the last named means comprising two superposed stops separated from each other by a notch on the said actuating rod and a shoulder on the said pen holder body, the said shoulder being bevelled on its top face and the upper'stop being bevelled on its bottom side and the said shoulder being adapted to engage one of the said stops when the pen holder body moves in one direction and to engage the other of the said 'stops when the pen holder body moves in the opposite direction, the said means operatively connecting the said actuating rod with the said cover, and a guiding ring secured within the protecting sleeve for guiding the actuating rod and limiting its inward movement.
