This invention relates to a display device, which includes a stand in the form of a seat, and an insert adapted to be mounted therein.

The. general object of the invention is to provide a neat, attractive and inexpensive medium for the display of merchandise for sale. The seat is provided adjacent itsback -with a slideway. The insert or liner has a back adapted to be inserted in said slideway, and a bottom adapted to rest upon the bottom of the seat and provided with flaps adapted to be folded and held by the sides and bottom of the seat to form a tray for receiving articles in bulk. In the preferred form of the invention, the back of the insert is adapted to be folded in such a manner as to form aledge for an orderly display of articles. I

The invention will be more specifically described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank from which the insert is formed;

The seat with which the invention is associated comprises side walls 10, a front wall 11 and a back 12. The upper part of the front wall is folded rearwardly to form the bottom 13 of the seat and'fold lines 14 may be provided' to facilitate such folding. The front upper portions of the side walls are folded inwardly, as shown at 15, to support the sides of the bottom 13.

The insert or liner comprises a bottom panel 16 and a back panel 17. The rear edges of the side portion of the seat are cut away to form a slideway 18 for receiving the back panel 17 of the insert. The ends of the panel 17 project slightly beyond the edges of the bottom panel 16, as shown at 19, so that as wardly to form an the panel 17 is inserted in the slideway 18, the sides of the bottom panel 16 fit against the side portions 15 of the seat.

The insert or liner is provided with two side flaps, each of which comprises a central strip 24 and flaps 25 and 26 connected thereto at thefold lines 27. The strip 24 is a continuation of the strip 20 and is connected thereto at the fold line 28, which is preferably reinforced by a piece of tape 29 or the like.

In forming the tray, after the back 17 has been inserted in the slideway 18, the strip 20 is folded upwardly, asshown in Figure 3, the 7 strip 22 and the flaps 25 and 26 are folded rearwardly and then inwardly about the lines 28. As the bottom of the insert is seated upon the bottom 13, the front rim 20'of the tray and the side flaps 24 are locked in position by the engagement of the latter with the sides 15. The inner facings 22 and 25 of the tray are then folded downwardly to complete the tray. Notches 30 are provided between the strips 22 and 25 and form interlocking tongues 31 for retaining the rim of the tray in this position.

The tray thus formed is adapted to receive merchandise inbulk and is intended primarily for a self-serving display.

It is also desirable to provide the back 17 with fold lines 32, 33 and 34 so that the strips 35,36 and 37 may be arranged in the position shown in Figures 3 and 4; For this purpose the strips 35 and 36 are cut short enough to permit them to fit between the sides 15, while the ends of the strip 37 are held in the slideway 18. Thus the strip 36 forms a ledge on which an orderly display of articles may be arranged.

It will be understood that the exposed surfaces of the stand may be printed with suitable advertising matter.

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a convenient and 100 inexpensive display device which may be easily set up and which is self-locking. While I have shown and described in detail the preferred form of the invention, it is apparent that the same may be considerably modified without any material departure from the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is 1. The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of an insert having a bottom adapted to overlie the seat bottom, a front strip connected to the front edge of the insert bottom and foldable upwardly to form the front rim of a tray, side strips connected to the ends of said front strip and foldable to extend within the sides of the seat to form sides for the tray, and flaps extending inwardly from said side strips and foldable into a position underneath the insert bottom to hold said front and side strips in such folded position.

The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of'an insert having a bottom adapted to overlie the seat bottom, a'front strip connected to the front edge of the insert bottom and foldable upwardly to form the front rim of a tray, side strips connected to the ends of said front strip and foldable to extend within the sides of the seat to form sides for the tray, flaps extending inwardly from said side strips and foldable into a position underneath the insert bottom, strips connected to said front and side strips and foldable downwardly to form an inner facing for the tray rim, and means for interlocking said facing strips.

The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of an insert having a tray bottom adapted to overlie the seat bottom, strips connected to the edges of the insert bottom and foldable to form a rim about the front and sides of the tray bottom, strips connected to said front and side strips and foldable downwardly to form inner facings therefor, and means for interlocking the facing strips.

The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of an insert having a bottom adaptedto overlie the seat bottom, a front strip connected to the front edge of the insert bottom and foldable upwardly to form the front rim of a tray, side strips connected to the ends of said front strip and foldable to extend within the sides of the seat to form sides for the tray, flaps extending inwardly from said side strips and foldable into a position underneath the insert bottom to hold said front and side strips in such folded position, and interengaging means between the seat and the insert back to prevent the insert bottom for slipping forwardly.

5. The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of an insert having a bottom adapted to overlie the seat bottom, a front strip connected to the front edge of the insert bottom and foldable upwardly to form the front rim of a tray, side strips connected to the ends of said front strip and fold able to extend within the sides of the seat to form sides for the tray, flaps extending inwardly from said side strips and foldable into a position underneath the insert bottom, strips connected to said front and side strips and foldable downwardly to form an inner facing for the tray rim, means for interlocking said facing strips, and interengaging means between the seat and the insert back to prevent the insert bottom from slipping forwardly.

The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of an insert having a tray bottom adapted to overlie the seat bottom, strips connected to the edges of the insert bottom and foldable to form a rim about the front and sides of the traybottom, strips connected to said front and side strips and foldable downwardly to form inner facings therefor, means for interlocking the facing strips, and interengaging means between the seat and the insert back to prevent the insert bottom from slipping forwardly.

The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of an insert having a bottom and a back adapted to overlie the bottom and back of the seat, a vertical slideway at the back of the seat for receiving the back of the insert, a front strip connected to the front edge of the insert bottom and foldable upwardly to form the front rim of a tray, side strips connected to the ends of said front strip and foldable to extend within the sides of the seat to form'sides for the tray, and flaps extending inwardly from said strips and foldable into a position underneath the insert bottom to hold said front and side strips in such folded position.

8. The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back'and sides, of an insert having a bottom and a back adapted to overlie the bottom and back of theseat,a vertical slideway at the back of the seat for receiving the back of the-insert, a front strip connected to the front edge of the insert bottom and foldable upwardly to form the front rim of a tray, side strips connected to theends-of said front strip and foldable to extend within the sides of the seat to form sides for the tray, flaps extending inwardly from said side strips and fold able into a position underneath the insert bottom, strips connected to said front and side strips and foldable downwardly'toform an inner facing for the tray rim, and means for interlocking said facing strips.

9. The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, of an insert havin a tray bottom adapted to overlie the bottom of the seat and having a back adapted to overlie the back of the seat, a vertical slideway at the back of the seat for receiving the back of the insert, a front strip connected to the front edge of the insert bottom and foldable upwardly to form the rim of the tray bottom, strips connected to said front and side strips and foldable downwardly toform inner facings therefor, and means for interlocking the facing strips.

10. The combination with a seat having a bottom, a back and sides, said sides being provided adjacent the back with opposed channels constituting a vertical slideway, of an insert having a bottom and a back adapted to overlie the bottom and back of the seat, the back of said insert comprising upper and lower strips, with their ends guided in said slideway, and intermediate strips trimmed short enough to swing forwardly between the sides of the seat to form a ledge, all of said strips being arranged successively one lower strips, with their ends guided in said I slideway, and intermediate strips trimmed short enough to swing forwardly between the sides of the seat, the upper one of said intermediate strips being narrower than the lower intermediate strip.
