This invention relates to hoisting devices.
The principal object of the'invention is to provide hoisting means used mainly to carry oxygen and acetylene tanks.
Another object of this device is to provide a hoist which will safely and easily carry objects in a vertical position.
A further object of the device is to provide means for attaching crane hooks tothe hoist when desired.
A still further object is to provide a pair of clutch bands suspended below a pair of oppositely disposed handle and gripping members. i a
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein;

By referring to the drawing it will be seen that there is provided a pair of oppositely disposed handles 1. These handles 1 are provided with removable shoes 2. These removable shoes 2' are provided with gripping surfaces 3. These handles 1 are prow vided with central metallic plates 4 which are held in a vertical position by means of rivets 5.
Each handle 1 is provided with a depended inner bracket 6 which has attached thereto a link member 7. a A lower end of each of the link members 7 is attached in a pivoted man nerto warm 8 by means of pivot pins 9. Each of these arms8 is an extended integral portion ofa pair of gripping bands 10. By
referring tothe drawing it will be seen that so the gripping bands 10 are provided with oppositely disposed angle sections 11 and 12. Theangle sectionsll are bent outwardly suf iicientto allow the angle sections 12 to be 1 held in a slidable position underneath the angle sections 11. It will also be seen by referring to the drawing that each of the gripping bands 10 is providedwith a relatively long upper ;ar1n13. These relatively long upper armsi13 are held in a pivoted manner to outer brackets 14 which are suspended underneath. the handles 1 at points 15. By referring to Figure 1 it will be seen that the link members 7 function within a slot 16 I formed in the relatively long upper arms 13.
By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that the device is in a position to lift a tank 17. In order to place the hoist ina position for lifting on the tank 17 it is necessary to .i
move the handles 1 downwardly which would cause the shoes 2 tobe separated while the gripping bands 10 would be moved to a nongripping position.- It will be noticed that the gripping bands 10 should be larger than the circumference ofthetank 17 in orderto allow for sufficient clearance so that the hoisting device maybe easily positioned upon the tank 17 It will be noticed that the lifting of the handles 1 causesthe spreading of the I arms 8 and 13. This causes a gripping action ofthe gripping bands 10 uponthe tank 17. It will also beseen that as the handles 1 are lifted upwardly, as would be donein carrying the tank 17 there is exertedupward pull on the relatively long upper arms 13 which\ causes an added friction at points 18.
By referringto Figures it willbe seen that there is shown a lining 19 which is preferably madeof fabric in order to prevent unnecessary marring of theioutersurface of the tank 17 It is also understood that if desired, the shoes may be made of such suitable material as would prevent undesirable marring of the surface of the tank 17.
It will be seen that there is provided upon the handles 1 detachable eye members 20 for the purpose of providing means for attaching a crane or the like where it is desired to lift large or extremely heavy articles.
It is obvious that the gripping bands 10 may be circular, semi-circular, or may take other forms suitable for the purpose for which they are to be employed.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the class described, a pair of oppositely disposed handles, a pair of oppositely disposed gripping ends on said handles, a pair of oppositely disposed shoes positioned 011 said oppositely disposed gripping ends of said handles, a pair of gripping bands, a pair of oppositely disposed angle sections in said gripping bands, outwardly bent portions of outer angle sections in order to allow slidable movement of the gripping bands, a pair of arms secured to each of said gripping bands, means for moving said arms to a relatively parallel position and for moving said arms away from a relatively parallel position in order to cause the gripping bands to take a gripping or non-gripping position.

In a deviceof the class described, a pair of oppositely disposed handles, a pair of oppositely disposed gripping ends on said handles, a pair of oppositely disposed shoes positioned on said oppositely disposed gripping ends of said handles, detachable eye members formed on said oppositely disposed handles, a pair of gripping bands, a pair of oppositely. disposed angle sections in said gripping bands, outwardly bent portions of outer angle sections in order to allow slidable movement of the gripping bands, a pair of arms secured to each of said gripping bands, means for moving said arms to a relatively parallel position and for moving said arms away from airelatively parallel position in order to cause the gripping bands to take a gripping or non-gripping position.

In a device of the class described, a pair of oppositely disposed handles, a pair of oppositely disposed gripping ends on said handles, a pair of oppositely disposed shoes positioned on said oppositely disposed gripping ends of said handles, a pair of gripping bands, a pair of oppositely disposed angle sections in said gripping bands, outwardly bent portions of outer angle sections in order to allow slidable movement of the gripping bands, a pair of oppositely disposed arms formed as an integral part of said gripping bands, a downwardly depended inner'bracket positioned on each handle member, link members connecting said inner depended pair of relatively long arms formed as an integral part of said gripping bands, an outer bracket on each handle member, said outer brackets connected to said relatively long arms for the purpose of moving said arms to a relatively parallel position and for moving said arms away from a relatively parallel position in order to cause the gripping bands to take a gripping and non-gripping position.
