This invention relates to improvements in receptacles and is directed more particularly to' improvements in receptacles in the form of knock-downshooks, boxes and the like.

This application is a continuation in part ofan application Serial No. 508,724, filed by me on January 14, 1931.

i The principal object of this invention is the provision of a knock-down shook having 0 upper, lowerand side walls provided with reinforcingmembers constructed and arranged for interlocking engagement so that the shook may be readily'set up. According to a special feature of the invention means are provided for reinforcing certain ofthe interlocking parts so as to strengthen the shook when it is set up.

Various novel features and advantages of the invention will be observed from' the following description of the preferred form thereof, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:

Referring more in detail to the drawing the invention Willnow be fully described.

In the drawing there is shown a shook comprising upper and lower walls 2 and 4, side walls 6 and end walls such as 8 which are arranged to be brought together in a receptacle forming position and locked securely inr set-up relation.

The upper and lower walls 2 and 4 are similar and comprise substantially flat members which may be of wood or the like. These have on their opposite ends reinforcing members or strips indicated at 10. These strips are secured to the members in a suitable manner as by nailing and rhave sockets 12 in the outer ends thereof. The sockets extend through the strips 10 andare perpendicular to the plate thereof so as to have open mouths at the upper sides for receiving locks. The side walls 6 carry reinforcing strips 60 14 whichare suitably secured thereto and these have locks 16 on the opposite ends thereof which are receivable in the sockets of the strips 10.

The sockets described have'side walls which 55 are preferably disposed in di verging relation looking at opposite ends of the strips 10. Relatively thin reinforcing straps 20 extend across the ends of the strips 10 and along opposite sides thereof and have their ends i fastened to the strips by any suitable means such as nails indicated at 22.

The straps 20 close up the open ends of the sockets and at the same time reinforce the ends of the strip to strengthen them and to prevent splitting thereof. The straps 20 also tend to hold the ends of the strips 10 against expanding so that the socket walls will not yield whereby when the side walls are in place with the locks thereof in the sockets the locks are firmly embraced. The straps20 may be of thin metal or the like and will serve as stated to securely embrace the ends of the strips 10 for the purposes mentioned. The locks 16 are spaced from the walls 6 to pro- 75 vide slots for receiving the straps at the ends of the sockets.

The end walls'such as 8 may comprise a singlepiece of material. According to a special feature of the invention these walls carry on their inner sides a strap 30 of relatively thin metal as shown in F i g. 1. The ends 32 of the'sestraps are receivable in grooves 34 of the members 14 4at a side adjacent the wall member 6. As the ends of the members 30 85 are inserted in the slots or grooves -34-they may be bent around the reinforcing strips 14 so as to have their extremities secured in some suitable manner to the strips as by nails indicated at 36.

These strips tend to hold the end walls securely in place and by detaching the ends of the strips 30 the end walls may be separated from the upper, lower and side walls which may also be separated from one another.

The construction described makes it possible to readily assemble the walls of the shook and when so assembled the parts are securely locked together while at the saine time the locking parts are reinforced so that there is provided a strong rugged box. Each end wall may have one or more of the straps such as 30 and when desired the set-up walls may be banded with wire, bands of iron or whatever may be desired for purposes of shipment.

Having described the invention in the forni at present preferred what l now desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

l. A knock-down shook comprising in coinbiiiation, upper and lower walls having reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces of said walls at opposite ends thereof, the opposite ends of said strips being provid-ed with sockets extending perpendicularly to the plane of the inner faces of said walls, reinforcing straps extending across the opposite ends of said strips secured to opposite side faces of the strips adjacent the ends, side walls receivable between the opposite marginal edges of the upper and lower walls, reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces of said side walls at opposite ends thereof which are provided with locks which are receivable in the sockets of the. reinforcing strips of the upper and lower walls, the said locks being spaced from the said side walls to provide slots for receiving the straps at the ends of the strips in the Lipper and lower walls.

2. A knock-down shook comprising in combination, upper and lower walls having reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces of said walls at the opposite ends thereof, the opposite ends of said strips being provided with sockets disposed perpendicularly to the plane of the inner faces of said walls, reinforcing straps extending across the end faces of said strips and secured to opposite side faces of the strips adjacent the said end faces, side walls receivable between the opposite longitudinal marginal edges of the up 3er and lower walls, reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces of said side walls at opposite ends thereof which are provided with locks receivable in the sockets of the reinforcing strips of the upper and lower walls, end walls adjacent the inner faces of the reinforcing strips of the before-inelitioned walls.

3. A knock-down shook comprising in combination, upper and lower Yalls having reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces at opposite ends thereof terminat ing with perpendicular faces spaced inwardly of the longitudinal edges of the walls at the ends of the strip, the opposite ends of the strip being provided with slot openings extending inwardly from the ends of the strip to form sockets which extend perpendicularly of the plane of the inner faces of the walls, relatively thin straps extending across the perpendicular faces of the ends of the strip having their opposite ends secured to 0ppo site faces of the said strip adjacent the end faces, side walls receivable between the side longitudinal edges of the upper and lower walls having reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces at opposite ends thereof, the opposite ends of said strip being pro- 'vided with lock sections extending longitudinally thereof which are receivable in the sockets of the reinforcing strips of the upper and lower walls.

4l. A knock-down shook comprising in coinbination, upper and lower walls having reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces at opposite ends thereof terminating with perpendicular faces spaced inwardly of the longitudinal side edges of said walls to provide side longitudinal ledges of the walls at the ends of the strips, the opposite ends of the strips being provided with slot openings extending inwardly froin the ends of the strip to forni sockets which extend perpeiidicularly to the plane of the inner faces of the walls, relatively thin straps extending across the perpendicular faces of the ends of the strips having opposite ends secured to opposite faces of the said strips adjacent the end faces thereof, side walls receivable between the side longitudinal ledges of the upper and lower walls having reinforcing strips secured across the inner faces at opposite ends thereof, the opposite ends of the said strips being provided with lock sections extending longitudinally thereof which are receivable in the sockets of the reinforcing strips intermediate the ends thereof provided with transverse grooves on a side adjacent the walls to which they are attached, end walls in abutment with the inner faces of the reinforcing strips, straps carried by said inner walls having free ends which extend through said grooves and are attached at their extremities to said strips.

5. A knock-down shook comprising in coinbination, upper and lower walls having reinforcing strips extending across inner faces of said walls at opposite ends thereof, the opposite ends of said strips being provided with sockets extending perpendicularly to the plane of the inner faces of said walls having restricted openings thereinto at end faces of said strips, reinforcing strips extending across the end faces of said strips secured to opposite side faces thereof, side walls having reinforcing strips extending across the inner faces of said walls at opposite ends thereof provided with locks receivable in the sockets of the strips ofthe upper and lower walls, longitudinal marginal edges of certain of said walls being receivable between longitudinal marginal portions of certain of the other walls and end walls receivable between said upper, lower and side walls adjacent the inner faces of the strips at the ends thereof.
