Description

March 7, 1933. L. FUCHS I GLARE SHIELD Filed March 27, 1951 Lab 3mm v I Mex/Mega.
Patented Mar; 7, 1933 PATENT OFFICE LEO FUCHS, OF CAMERON, TEXAS GLARE SHIELD Application filed March 27, 1931. Serial No. 525,813.
This invention relates to a glare shield for use on different kinds of motor vehi-- cles, one of the objects being to provide a shield which can be readily placed in osition and can not only be adjusted angu arly but can also be raised or lowered to-bring the shield to any desired position relative to the line of vision.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as thedescription proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I In the accompanying drawing the preferred form of. the invention has been shown.
In said drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the glare shield.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22, Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical section throughthe device on line 3-3, Figure 1. Figure 4 is a section on line 44, Figure 3.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates an attaching plate n from which is extended an arm 2 which, in the structure illustrated, is provided with a ball terminal 3 adapted to be clamped between socket members 4. A screw 5 is extended throughethese socket members and the ball and has a nut 6 whereby the several parts can be clamped together so that the socket members will thus be held in any position to which they might be adjusted. Each socket member is formed'with an angular bracket 7 and the two brackets, which are oppositely disposed, are attached by bolts or other desired means to the top portion of an angular yoke 8 forming the main frame of the device. This frame is chanr neled along the top and sides for the reception of the side and top edge portions of panel 9 will be raised or lowered in the P channels, a transparent panel slidable in a panel 9 formed preferably of colored glass. The channels can be lined with felt 10 or the like so that when the glass panel is brought to any desired position it will be held frictionally by this lining. The bottom ofthe glass panel is securely seated in a channeled reinforcing strip 11 from the ends of which are extended arms 12 which project upwardly and slide within guide channels 13 secured to the sides of the yoke 8. These arms are formed with rack teeth 14 which mesh with gears 15secured to a shaft 16. The shaft is j ournaled in brackets 17 projecting from thesides of the yoke 8. A knob 18 is secured to one end of the shaft and by means thereof the gears can be rotated and the racks 14 moved upwardly or! downwardly. Thus the glass lined channels in yoke 8 and because of the frictional engagement of the linings with the glass panel, said panel will remain in any position to which it may be adjusted.
By loosening the bolt 5 the yoke 8 can be adjusted angularly and by rotating knob 18 the panel 9 can be raised and lowered. Thus the entire device is capable of adjustment to meet the requirements of the driverand as the panel 9 is formed of colored glass or a similar material it will act to prevent blinding glare in the eyes of the driver.
In Figure 3 of the drawing the position of the device relative to the windshield W has been plainly indicated. What is claimed is: The combination with an attachingbracket, of a frame supported thereby for angular adjustment, said frame having opposed the channels, a reinforcing strip along the bottom edge of the panel, a guide on the frame, a rack secured to the strip and ex tending upwardly above the panel, said rack movably engaging the guide, a transverse shaft supported by the frame, means for rotating the shaft, and a gear on the shaft engaging the rack. r In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
LEO FUCHS.
