Theliner 5 is preferably vwelded to t e innerwall ot the shell at its 2lowerfend, as shown at 8,but at its upper end free to expand and contract. In order to insure the upper end of the liner being in fixed position at all times relative to the cylinder wall, I provide a plurality'of circumferentially disposed holding brackets 9, as shown. The external diameter of the liner is such that it is spaced slightly .away from the dephlegmator wall and in this annular space, I insert asuitable filler, as, for example, a Y plastic iller, for example, a paste of graphite and lead. Also in the space between the bottom plate 6 and the lower end of the shell, I insert under pressure a filler of similar paste, as shown at 10. Preferablybetween the upper end of the annular liner and the brackets, I insert asbestos packing, as shown at 11. Care should be taken to so force the packing in the annular space between the liner and dephlegmator wall as to insure against leakage of any' vapors in this space. The vapor nozzle 2 may also be provided with a similar internal liner 12 spaced from the walls of the nozzle and I insert between the. inner wall of the ,nozzle and the outer wall of the liner 12 similar packing 13. In order 'zo i so'l ture 14, opposite the nozzle. The end of the I liner 12 must lie flush against the .wall ofthe liner 5, so as to form a tight Joint against which the packing 13 may be forced without leakage.
I have shown the invention as applied to a dephlegmator for a cracking plant but, of
course, this same idea may be embodied, for
example, in the expansion chamber, or any other chambers subJect to the corrosive action of Aoil vapors.
I-claim as my invention:
An apparatus of the character described comprising a chamber, a liner of non-corrosive material Within said chamber and spaced from the interior Wall thereof, the lower portion of said liner being fixed to the interior wall of said chamber and its upper end being free to expand and contract independently of said chamber, and means for preventin vapors from entering the space between said liner and the interior wall of said cham- ``R0BERT E.
