BODY FITTING WRITING BOARD Filed April 6, 1929 \f\\\? I N I 7 1" 914-.- I457, Blake Patented Jan. 17, 1933 LEO H. FISH-ER, OF HUNTING-3113C}, INDIANA BODY FITTING WRITING BOARD Application filed April 6,
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a body fitting writing board.
The primary object of-my invention is to provide a writing board adapted to serve as a comfortable and convenient means of writing away from a desk or table.
A further object of my invention is to provide a writing board whose base is curved to fit the abdominal front and-side of the reclining, sitting or erect human body and is provided with an extension serving as a writ ing arm and wrist rest that will also aid by resting on couch or bed at side and under the writing arm of the reclining body in holding the board in a comfortable writing position and especially when the back of the board rests on either of the crossed knees of the reclining body.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a writing board so constructed or formed that one side may be used by a right handed writer and the reverse side by a left handed writer.
With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, which is forillustrative purposes only and is therefore not drawn to scale:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a body fitting writing board constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 38, Figure 1, showing the use of rubber bands for holding the writing paper in place and Figure 4 is a sectional view, showing the application of a paper clamp to an edge of the writing board.
Referring to the drawing for a more Darticular description of my invention and in which drawing like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates my body fitting writing board, as a whole, which is constructed 1929. Serial at. 353,141.
of one piece of fiat wood or other suitable material possessing the necessary stifi'ness, lightness and durability. The writing board is of any suitable thickness and of such dimensions otherwise as to hold any legal cap or smaller size'writing paper, on the face thereof. Specifically, the writing board comprises a flat elongated body portion 1 formed at its base with a reduced extension 2, serving as an arm and Wrist rest and at one side with a laterally disposed inwardly extending triangular e51 tension 3, whose inner side edge is curved to fit or conform to the abdominal front and side of the body. The triangular extension 3 provides a means of holding the writing board in any comfortable writing position by the hand no engaged in writing.
The back of the writing board may be provided with an adjustable leg support 5, whereby the device may be firmly supported upon the body, bed or couch. The leg support 5 is folded back in an out-of-the-way position against the back of the board when not in use.
Clamp fasteners 6 of any suitable design may be employed at the top or side of the board to hold the sheets of writing paper 7 in place; or if desired, a rubber band 8 may be stretched around the top of the writing board to hold the sheets in place. The band 8 is preferably provided with a plurality of transversely spaced thickened portions or enlargements 9 which serve to more securely hold the paper in place and prevent same from slipping or moving about. A rubber band 10 may also be stretched diagonally across the base of the board to assist in holding the sheets of writing paper in place when the device is hung on the wall or is resting at the side of the couch or bed against the side of the wall.
It will be'understood that my device is of practical, comfortable and efficient use for writing thereon while in any position, as standing, walking or rec-lining. Further, it is of very compact form and may be easily placed out of the way when not in use. If desired, a convenient electric light with shade can be attached to the top or side of the writing board.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily under- 5 stood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various chan es in the form, proportions and minor deta' s of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principles or sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A body fittin writing board comprising a flat elongated dy portion provided at its base with a reduced arm andwrist support and at one side with a lateral triangular extension, whose inner side edge is curved to conform to the abdominal front and sideof the body, a rubber band provided with thickened portions stretched around the top of the board, a second band stretched di- 5 agonally across the base of the board and a leg support pivoted to the back of the writing board, said bands serving to hold the sheets of writing paper firmly on the face of the board.
In testimony whereof he aifixes his signature.
LEO H. FISHER.
