The invention relates to a safety device for razors which comprises a yoke member which can be positioned on the blade to embrace both sides thereof.
The known safety devices of this kind for-razors do not satisfy'in'practice the 'vari ous" requirements which have to be met.
Known devices in part utilize a protective sheet which is positioned overthe'blade on one side only so as toextend close to the 7 cutting edge and issecured to the back of the blade in various ways all of which are to a greater or less extent inconvenient. Suchdevices do not ensure an adequate margin of safety against damage. i
With the object of attaining a greater de' gree of safety, other proposals have included a yoke member which is adapted to be positioned'on the blade and embraces it, extegding almost to the cutting edge on both s1 es.
As compared with the safety devices extending on one side only such devices are expensive to manufacture part cularly the therequ'isite rigid mounting on the blade depends on the eiiiciency of small springs or the like which weaken after being in use for a greater or less time. Also it is not altogether simple to clean and dry-such devices as a cloth or the like can only be inserted r between the limbs of the yoke with diiiiculty and moisture and dirt readily collect in the screw threads, the hinges and the like. In this way not only is arapid decomposition assisted but the risk of infection during shaving is also involved.
It is the object of the present invention to remove all these disadvantages and to provide an efiicient and simple construction of a safety device. Vl'ith this object in View the invention provides a safety device which ing specification having reference to the r 'parts of the yoke are resiliently connected together for the purpose of clamping the yoke on the back of the plate. In addition comprises two independent members adapted;

The present invention resides in that the yoke consists of two halves consisting of independent constructionalunits which are connected together and with thexback of the blade in that onehalf of the yoke or one yoke member claniped'directlyon the back of the blade bymeans of aclipdike portion and the second half of the yoke is provided with a similar clip-like portion enabling itto be secured in position by sliding it telescopically over the other yoke member. The yoke device thus obtained is particularly simple in construction and conscquentlyis also very so cheap to manufacture. Moreover it is capable of being both q uickly and adequately cleaned.

Each half of the yoke a and b is of the same length as .the blade of the razor and a sleeve open on one side is formed on one longitudinal edge by bending. The sleeve 0 of the half a, is so constructed that it fitsclosely on the back of a razor blade with the flat part ot-the yoke member ex tending approximatelyparallel to the blade y in close proximity thereto. The sleeves c and d are mounted on the back of the blade and on each other in such manner that they cannot rotate about the back of the blade.
The degree of safety afforded is particularly great if the two yoke members terminate in edges spaced laterally by a small distance from the cutting edge. In apreferred arrangement presently to be described, this effect is attained in that the two halves of the yoke are each folded back at the free edge and the folded back edge strip terminates at some distance from the edge in a turned up flange. This arrangement also affords the advantage that the edges of the safety device are strengthened and thus a bending of the entire edge or of individual teeth is prevented.
In this arrangement the edges of the other longitudinal side of the two yoke members a and b are folded back on the side on which the sleves c, d are open and by bending is formed into a low flange e projecting from the yoke member. The flanges 6 rest against the sides of the blade of the razor and ensure the positioning of the yoke members at the permissible least distance from the blade. The blade is thus spaced from the edges formed by bending which constitute effective protective edges f and f respectively. These edges are serrated in known manner.
The yoke, member a is not so deep as the yoke member 7), in accordance with known constructions. By this arrangement it is attained that the cutting edge of the blade projects beyond the protective edge f of the yoke member (1 whereas the protective edge f of the yoke member 5 projec beyond the ting edge of the blade. Further the yoke members are so dimensioned that the two protective edges 7 and f and the cutting edge of the blade lie in a'straight. line or in a plane, in known manner. The obliquity of this line or planeto the blade corresponds to the obliquity of the latter to the skin in shaving. Thus on either side of the cutting edge of the blade the skin is supported by the protective edges of the yoke members a and bin such manner that it is impossible to cut or damage the skin.
I claim 1. A safety device for a razor blade, comprising a strip-like guard to cover one side of the blade nearly to the edge of the blade, said guard having a sheath-like portion adapted to grip the backof' the blade, another strip-like guard to cover the other side of the blade projecting beyond the edge of the blade, said other guard being adapted to grip the back of the first-mentioned guard, both strip-like guards being of such a length as to lie substantially with the edge of the blade in one plane; both strip-like guards baring projections to form a support against he blade, and to space them therefrom.
2. A safety device for a razor blade comprising two independent yoke members, a clip-shaped portion on one of said members enabling it to be clamped to the back of the blade to extend over one surface thereof, a clip-shaped portion on the other of said members enabling it to be clamped to the back of the blade to extend over the other surface thereof by embracing the clip portion of the first member clamped thereon and a flange projecting inwardly from each of said members to engage the surface of the blade for spacing said members from said blade in the vicinity of the cutting edge.
