Description

Dec. 6, 1932. SVANCARA 1,890,169
TROUSER HANGER Filed April 8, 1951 INVENTOR:
ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 6, 1932 UNITED STATES LUMIR SVANCARA, OF BUHL, IDAHO TROUSER HANGER Application filed April 8, 1931.
This invention relates to hangers for trousers and the main object is to provide a simple and efiicient hanger adapted to engage and support the trousers by their ends whereby the trousers will be held in a natural position and will retain their crease.
Another object is to provide a hanger so constructed and arranged that its gripping elements will conform closely to and grip the trouser cuffs throughout their length, the ends of the said gripping elements for this purpose being drawn together and their intermediate portions allowed to spring apart somewhat at the bulge formed by the vertical seams in the trousers legs and cuffs.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth and claimed,
reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein:
F igure 1 is an elevation of the hanger showing in dotted lines a portion of a pair of trousers supported therein.
95 Figure 2 is a plan View of the hanger.
Figure 3 is an enlarged side elevation of an end portion of the hanger in its open position.
Figure A is an end View of the structure shown in Figure 3. p
In carrying out the invention I provide two elongated flat clamp plates or bars 1 and 2 made of relatively light and pliable hard wood and of such length as to project at either end for some distance beyond the ends of trouser culls placed therebetween. A pair of U-shaped members 3 are provided and each comprises the spaced elongated legs 4;
and fiat straight bight 4a, the legs being slidably inserted through slots 5 in the ends of the bars 1 and 2 as shown. An expansion coil spring 6 is seated over or around one leg of each member 3 between the bars 1 and 2 and serves to normally force them apart,
the bights 1a coming in contact with the bar 1 to prevent said members 3 from pulling out of the bars. Cams 7 are eccentrically pivoted at 8 between the free extended ends of the legs 4 and have extended operating handles 9. These cams 7 are of such form Serial No. 528,479.
and shape that they will force the bar 2 toward the bar 1 when the handles 9 are swung inward towards each other. It will be noted that the handles 9 in this position rest against the bar 2 and are cut straight along one edge 10 to engage said bar, and facilitate the holding of the cam in this set position.
In use the bars 1 and 2 are opened by swinging the cam handles 9 outward or apart and the cuffs A of the trousers B are disposed between the bars. The cam handles 9 are then swung inward drawing the bars 1 and 2 together so that they grip the cuffs A. A hook 11 is connected to the bars by eyes 12 therein and serves as a means for supporting the assembly in usual manner. As will be noted in Figure 2 the bars 1 and 2 are held apart somewhat adjacent their centers by the seams in the cuffs but due totheir pliability and the application of the pressure of the cams 7 at their ends the bars closely follow the contour of the cufis and grip the same at an equal pressure from end to end. As shown in Figure 2 the springs 6 are so arranged that one is disposed around the uppermost leg 4 of one member 3 and the other around the lower leg of the oppo site member 3 the tension exerted by these springs being thus equalized and prevented from tipping the bars in a lateral direction and causing binding on the legs 4 of said members 3.
While I have herein set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor structural details, not departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination with a pair of bars having spaced slots in their ends, U-shaped members having their legs passed loosely through the slots, coil springs coiled around one leg of each U-shaped member and braced be tween the bars, and cams eccentrically pivoted between the ends of the said legs of the U-shaped members.
2. In combination with a pair of bars having spaced slots in their ends, U-shaped members including bights and spaced legs, the said legs being 'slidably passed through the said slots in the bars and extending therefrom, expansion coil springs coiled around one leg of each member and braced between the bars, cams eccentrically journaled between the ends of the legs of the members and bearing on one of the bars and handles extended from the cams.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
LUMIR SVANGARA.
