Description

Nov. 1,: 19 w. F. WILLIAMS STABILIZER FOR GLIDER SEATS Filed Jan. 16 1932 144 i INVENTOR g ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 1, 1932 rren STATES WILLIAM F. WILLIAMS, on ROCHESTER, NEW Yon-K, Assrenon To QUALITY MATTRESS COMPANY, OIE ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, A
CORPORATION OF NEW YORK" STABILIZER FOR GLIDER SEATS Application filed. January 16, 1932. Serial No. 587,052.
This invention relates to improvements in glider seats particularly of a type having a stabilizer connected thereto.
An object of this invention is to provide a stabilizer for a glider which will permit the free swinging or gliding movement of the seat and at the same time operate to keep the seat in a central position with respect tothe upright end portions of the main frame'or base.
A further further object of this invention is to provide a glider seat having a stabilizer connected therewith in such a manner that portions of the structure will not come in contact with the user of the glider.
Another. object of this invention is to provide a stabilizer simple and inexpensive of manufacture that may be easily connected with glider seat devices.
Other objects of this invention will appear from the following "detailed description of the device and as disclosed in the single sheet of drawing which is herewith made a part of this application.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view of the glider seat and stabilizer.
Fig. 2 is a front sectional elevational view of Fig. 3 taken along line 2-2.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view'of Fig. 1 taken "along line 3-3.
In the preferred form of this invention numeral l designates the main or base frame of the glider which may be made of any suitable material, while numeral 2 designates the end portions which normally extend upwardly from the outer ends of the main or base frame 1, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 2.
The main frame 1 of the glider may include a plurality of parallel members 3 and 4 extending longitudinally of the base frame.
The glider seat 5 is adapted to be swung in any suitable manner from the cross member 6 of the upright end portions 2 by means of chain portions 7, or otherwise as may be de-' sired. The seat 5 is ordinarily constructed having a plurality of cross members 8 spaced apart and adapted as a support for some suitable type of seat mattress.
In order to permit of free swinging or gliding movement of the seat 5 and at the same i time provide a means for bringing the seat back to center with respect to the upright end j portions 2 it. is preferred in this invention to provide two upwardly and centrally inclined members 9 and 10 made of any suitable material, the outer ends of the members 9 and 10 being pivotally mounted, as at 11 and 12 frame members 13 and 14 being suitably connected with the frame elements 8 and 4, and braced as at 15 and 16, so as to provide the required pivoting member in cooperation with the rod portions 9 and '10. The inner ends of the rods 9 and 10 are preferably provided with spring members 17 and 18 for resilient attachment to a cross member 19 of the movable seat 5.
means described the ends of the seat and back to base frame members 13 and 14, the base are maintained out of engagement with the end 2 of the supporting structure.
It will be understood, that without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, the stabilizer device claimed herewith may be adapted to gliders or the like' of various types difierent from that described.
What is claimed is: V
A glider seat comprising end pieces, a base to which the end pieces are connected and in-- cluding slightly elevated longitudinal parallel members and transverse cross pieces 'connecting the'same adjacent the ends thereof, a seat member swingingly suspended from the end pieces over the base and including a rigid transverse crossvpiece arranged substantially intermediate the ends thereof and above the plane of the aforesaid transverse cross pieces, and a stabilizer comprising two bars each pivoted at its outer end to therespective transverse cross piece of the base and resilient elements connected to the transverse cross piece of the seat member and to the inner ends of said bars whereby to prevent undue endWise movement of the seat during swinging movement thereof. Y Y r In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of December, 1931. l WILLIAM F. WILLIAMS, 7
