Description

Oct. 25,1932. L, KQLE LIPSTICK HOLDER Filed Dec. 1o. 195o Patented Oct. 25, 1,932
LEssINe L. xonn, oF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN ms'rrcx nonnen.
Application led December 10, 1980. Serial No. 501,405.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in lipstick holders and has as an object to provide a holder having cooperating outer and inner casings and novel means for detachably and hingedly connecting the same. f
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of means for normally yieldably holding the two casings against relative ,o movement.
And a further object of this invention is to provide a holder of the'character described, the exterior of which forms a reflecting surface to permit its use as a mirror.
5, With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the hereindisclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawing, I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed according to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereof, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lipstick holder constructed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the device;
Figure 3 is a side elevation with the inner .asing partially moved out of its normal posiion;
Figure 4 is a side elevation with the inner casin fully extended and the lipstick ex- Pose 5 Figure 5 is a top view ofthe holder as shown in Figure 4; and
Figure 6 is a detail perspective view of the inner and outer casings, illustrating the manner of detachably a d hingedly connecting the same.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, in which like numerals designate like parts `throughout the au several views, the numeral 1 represents an outof the casing 'sions of less er substantialgly channel shaped casing having side walls 2, a back 2 and a closedlend 2-. At the open end of the casing, the side walls 2 are provided with opposite inwardly directed projections 4 and inturne'd anges `5.
The projections 4`coop`eratewith inwardl directed depressions 14 of an inner casingi to readily detachably and hingedly connect the same with `the outer casing 1. The inner casing 7 may be of any desired construction, and in the present embodiment consists of a rectangular tube .of pasteboard or the like reinforced at one end by a metal band 6 and at the other end by a metal band 8. The band 6 has the depressions 14 formed therein and the band 8, which is mounted at the free end of the inner casing, has a lug 9 extended therefrom to project beyond the closed end of the outer casing and rovide convenient means for opening the ho der.
The inner casing the lipstick 13 which is slidably mounted therein by means of an element '12 fixed on the stick and provided with a projection 11 slidable in a longitudinal slot 10 formed in the inner casing. As will be readily apparent, the lipstick may be moved into and out 7 by merely sliding .the projection 11 along the slot 10, and when the holder isy closed and the inner casing is entirely received within the outer casing, as shown in Figure 1, the projection 11, which has beenv moved to its innermost position, extends intoA an opening 3 in the back 2 of the outer casing 'to hold the lipstick against movement within the holder.
The projections 4 cooperating with the depressions 14 obviously hingedly connect the two casings and the inturned flanges 5 on the outer casing serve to snap the inner casing snugly into closed position and provide a yieldable means for retaining the casings against relative movement when closed.
If desired, the inturned anges may be dispensed with by forming the projections 4 and the'depressions 14 with elongated extendepth than the said projections and depressions.
The external surfaces of the outer casing` side walls 2 are preferably highly polished forms a receptacle for 2 n l 4:,asamm lto provide a reflecting surface or mirror, and when `it is desired to use the same the two casing's are separated, as illustrated in Figure 6, the normal resiliency of the outer caslng readily accommodating such separation.
What I claim as my invention is: 1. A holder for lipsticks andthe like, comprising an outer casing,` an inner casing adapted to receive the lipstick, and projec-` lo tions formed on one end ortion of one of the casings and received 1n depressions in the adjacent end portion of the other casing to readily detachably and hingedly Vconnect the casings, and inturned flangesI on the outer u casing for releasably retainin the inner casing in closed position within t e outer casing. 2. A holder for lipsticks and the like, comprising an outer casing, an inner casing adapted to receive the lipstick, lmeans for 20 readily detachably and hingedly connecting the casings, and means for yieldably retaining the casings in predetermined relative positions.
3. In a lipstick holder of the type dev25 scribed, an outer casing open at one end, and
having one ofits narrow sides open, and having inturned flanges near its open end, and having inwardly directed projections to detachably receive an embossed hinge element, .m an inner casing having. bands at each end and having a slot alon one of its narrow sides, inwardly directedg depressions on one of the bands to function as a detachable hinge element engaging the projections of the outer s casing, a llpstick holder slidable within the inner casing, said holder having astud projectingthrough 'the slot in the inner casing for operating the lipstick to exposed position.
