Description
Oct. 11', 1932. D, ELDRlDGE 1,882,126
PINLESS CLOTHESLINE Filed July 16, 1951 Patented Oct. 11, 1932 Parser PINLESS CLOTHESLINE Application filed July 16,
This invention relates to wire clothes lines, and more particularly to clothes lines of the pinless type, the primary object of the invention is to provide a clothes line construct- 5 ed of a plurality of sections bent to provide a pair of leg members twisted around each other in such amanner as to provide eyes at the ends of the sections for the reception of clothes or articles to be hung on the 1 clothes line.
Another object of the invention is to construct eyes on the sections in such a way that articles to be hung on the line may be readily guided to position between the leg 15 members of the sections, and securely gripped.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clothes line wherein the eyes of the sections are disposed in the same vertical 2o plane.
A still further object of the'invention is to provide a wire clothes line constructed of a plurality of interlocked sections, the connecting eye atone end of each section being disposed at right angles to the eye at the opposite end thereof.
With the foregoing andother objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described 1931. SeriaLNo. 551,239.
' other, portions of one of the leg members at the end thereof, being extended outwardly as at 7, where they are provided with loops 8, the free end of the leg member 6 being wrapped around the leg member 5, as at 9, securing the end of the leg member 6 to the leg member 5. V
The connection between the free end of the leg member 6 and leg member 5, is made near F'FICE-T P DOCK ELDRIDGE, OF NEWFOUNDLAND, KENTITGKY one end of the leg member 5, providing a loop 10, the end ofthe loop 10 being bent upwardly as at 11, around the twisted portion 9, providing an eye to interlock with the adjacent end of the nearest section of the clothes line.
The opposite end of the clothes line section, is formed with an eye 12 to interlock with the eye 10 of the adjacent section, the eye 12 being disposed at right angles with respect to the eye 10, so that the eye of the adjacent clothes line section may interlock with the eye 12 and the clothes receiving eyes formed by the outwardly extended portions 7 will lie in the same vertical plane, to the end that it will be an exceptionally simple operation to hang articles thereon.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that due to the construction shown and described the coiled portions 8 will act to tension the portions 7 of the clothes line, so that the twisted leg portions 5 and 6 will be brought into close engagement with each other setting up a binding action to securely grip the clothes or articles passed between the leg sections.
Having thus described the lnvention, what is claimed is:
I claim: c
A pinless clothes line comprising'zt plurality of connected sections, each section including a length of Wire formed into leg members, the leg members being twisted upon each other to grip an article therebetween, one of the leg members being extended down- Wardly near the ends thereof, spring loops formed year the ends of one of the leg members to urge the leg members into close engagement with each other to clamp an article therebetween, and eyes formed at the ends.
of the sections. In testimony that I as i claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature. 7 DOCK ELDRIDGrEi
