Description

Oct. 4, 1932.
H. l. KOPPELMAN Filed Dec. l5, 1930 Y Patented Oct. k1, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HAROLD I. KOPPELMAN, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, Y ASSIGNOR TO U. S; SANITARY 1 SPECIALTIES CORPORATION, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OIF ILLINOIS DEODORANT CONTAINERV Application lcd December 15, 1930. Serial No. 502,305.
'Ihis invention relates vto a container ir which may beplaced suitable deodorant or in connection with urinals, and the like. It
is more particularly concerned with'a raised terial and a perforated cover hinged to one edge of the platform, the vobject'being to provide a construction of .unitary character so "that there are no parts which may be vremoved and lost or damaged.
. A, suggestive embodiment of my invention appears in the, accompanying drawing, wherein- Y Y Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the container ;r
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the container with the cover moved to open position; y
Fig. 3 lis -a fragmentary view in section showing` particularly the catch mechanism; Fig. 4L is a sectional view taken on the line 4 of Fig. l; and f F ig. 5 is a perspective. view of a cake of deodorant material which may be used in connection with the present container. y
The containerfmay be formed of sheet metalcomprising base A having its center portion raised' to provide a 'platform B, 'to which isv hinged a perforated concave cover C. In the drawing is shown part of a urinal bowl D of usualconstruction having a drain opening E, over which is secured my vcontainer by means -of screws 9 fitted' into elongated radial slots 10 of the base A. The' platform By may be raised as atll to accommodate suitable drain openings 12 `which permit the flush waterto drain therethrough. Other openings, such as is shown at 14, may be placed in the horizontal portion 13 of the platform, andfor the same kpurpose. It will beV noted that the platform with its perforations V12 and 13 acts as a Y strainer to prevent large articles from passing into the drain pipe.
The cover C, which may be concave in i 'Y shape, is provided with drain openings 15.
tical wall 11 of theplatform, extending ldivergingly with respect to the cover `(hand disinfectant material lin solid form for use h aving a tongue 18 struck outwardly therefrom to engage `an opening 19 in thec'over.
This type Vof catch is advantageous in that the closuremay be opened' by a tool, such as a screw driver 21,A or the like, which is guided into place by the catch 17 and as material from 1 interfering with thel operation of the catch.
Ashown in broken -line (Fig. 1). The spring 'catch may be surrounded by a guard 22 of any desirable shape tokeep the deodorant Ipreferto use a cake of deodorant or disiny fectant material, such as is illustrated in F i0. 5, and represented generally by the letter However, it will be understood that any kvother shape of material may be used. In the form'of cake shown, I provide a sector shaped opening 23 to accommodate the guard 22 and catch 17. The platform B which supports the cake G may be provided with centering lugs 24 struck upwardly from the horizontal portionlV to hold the 'cake' in the center of the platform while the cover C isVv being lowered i The present invention is designed to provide the greatest ease'of manipulation, and
to minimize the exposure of the operator to adventitiousarticles. To open or close the container it is unnecessary for the operator to touch the container with his hands, as he may use an ordinary screw driver or similar tool to unlatch thecover, then press toward.
the hinge and the cover'will open, and he may use the same tool to push the cover to closed position, which will be latched simultaneously with its closing. It will be particularly noted that there is no part of the present closure which can be lost or laid on the floor where it is in danger of being stepped form to support deodorant material, the plat-r form having vdrain openings to permit passage of flush water, a perforated closure i 4() A K.
