to the dry materials of concrete in a mixlng' or conveying vessel. In carrying out the invention we employ a closed water tank in which a siphon is installed, said siphon being operable by means external to the tank and said tank being provided with a conductor discharging into the mixing drum and a tank filling opening provided with a closure, the removal of which is controlled by the' pos tion of the siphon so that additional water cannot be supplied to the tank while t e siphon is in discharging position. Other objects will appear from the disclosure herein.
The invention is embodied in the example herein shown and described, the features of novelty being finally claimed.

The mixing and transporting drum is mounted on an ordinary motor drlven chassis having an engine within the usual hood 10,
a drivers cab 11, a truck bed 12 supportedby wheels 13, the rear pair of which is driven through a change speed gearing, not shown, but as usual.
The power for driving the shaft 34 may be derived from the vehicle propelling engine but in the instance shown there is secured to the truck bed an engine 37 distinct from that of the-vehicle propelling engine, said engine 37 being preferably of the petrol type for said purpose. j
The dry materials in the mixing vessel are supplied with water from a tank 50 connected with the hollow shaft 20 extending into the mixing vessel, said pipe 20 having 1931. Serial No. 531,022.
where it is provided with a swinging intake siphon 52. Said swinging siphon or intake 52 is provided with a manually operated shaft 53 having an external crank arm 53 by means of which said intake, can be swung" to submerge its intake end into the body bf water in the tank to withdraw from the tank for the mixing drum the quantity specified for mixture with the dry components of the con'crete. The end'of the tank adjacent the crank arm 53 is provided with a graduate the tank wit water is through an openin in the top thereof, said opening being close with a removable threaded plug 56 provided at its lower end with two lugs 57 projecting downward. Said plug incidently can be made with an axial opening to the atmosphere, said opening provided at the external end with an adjustable threaded valve 58 in a sprin 59, said valve serving as a poppet to release excess pressure in the swatertank, as hereinafter referred to.
Fixed transversely on the shaft 53 within the tank is a semi-circular or sector-like plate 60 positioned in respect to the siphon '50 and lugs 57 so that when the siphon is swui'ig to submerge its intake end and therefore discharge water from the tank, the rim of the plate stands between the two lugs and therefore. prevents the turning of the threaded plug 56. This precludes the resupplying of.
water to the tank while the predeterm ned quantity .or quantities of water are being withdrawn from'the tank.
.Any suit-able stop look at the proper point on the segment 54oa/n be provided to limit the degree movement'of the crank arm 53 to wardly into the tank about midway thereof connected with it a pipe 51- that extend nppermit only the withdrawal ofthe authorized quantity of water. Such a stop can consist of,
any ordinary padlock 63 having its bolt in- -serted through one of a series of holes of the scale 54.
Pressure to forcethe water out of the tank can be supplied by the exhaust of the engine 37 through a pipe 37 connected withthe top of the tank, and the poppet valve 58, heretofore referred to, limits such pressure according to the predetermined strength of the spring 59 provided for acting on said valve.
Two baflie plates at 62 are provided to reduce turbulence of water in the tank when the mixer is being transported or otherwise, said plates having perforations along their upper margins to permit the rapid distribution of the gas pressure over the surface of the watee,
The water tank is shown as provided with an ordinary gage 61 to visibly indicate depth or quantity of water in the tank.
A branch conductor 64 connects the bottom of the tank with the discharge 51, said conductor being provided with a control valve 65 for supplying water to the mixing drum to flush the drum of concrete residue after the mixing work is done and while such residue is soft. To preclude the unauthorized use of such conductor 64 said control valve 65 is locked or. sealed in any suitable manner.
The forms of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
What we claim is:
1. Means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel, said means including a water tank, a conductor leading therefrom, a siphoning device operable externally of the tank for leading water to said conductor, said tank having a water charging opening and a closure therefor, and means controlled by the position of the siphon for engaging said closure to prevent the removal of the latter.
2. Means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel, said means including a water tank, a conductor leading therefrom, a siphoning device operable externally of the tank for leading water to said conductor, said tank having a water charging opening and a closure therefor, and means controlled with the operation of the siphon to engage said closure to prevent the charging of said tank with water.
3. Means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel, said means including a water tank, a conductor leading therefrom, a swinging siphoning device operable externally of the tank for leading water to said conductor, said tank having a water supplying opening and a closure therefor, and means carried with the swinging siphon to interfere with the removal ofthe closure when the siphon is swung to a water discharging position.
4. In means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel, said means including a water tank, a conductor leading therefrom, a swingin siphoning device for leading water to sai conductor, said tank having a water supplying opening and a rotating closure therefor provided with a lug, and a sector-like plate carried with the swinging siphon to stand adjacent said lug when the siphon is swung to discharging position to prevent the rotation of said closure.
5. In means for supplying Water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel, said means including a water tank, a conductor leading therefronnra swinging siphoning device for leading water to said conductor, and a closure in said tank for the mouth of said siphoning device when the latter is in non-discharging position.
6. In means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel, said means including a water tank, a conductor leading therefrom, a swinging siphoning device for leading water to said conductor, and a flexible closure in said tank for the mouth of said siphoning device when the latter is in nondischarging position.
7. Means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel including a water tank, a conductor leadingt-herefrom, a siphoning device having a depressible discharge for leading water from the tank into said conductor, said tank provided with an opening for chargin said tank withwater, a movable closure or said tank charging opening, and means operable concurrently with the depression of the siphoning device to lock said closure in closing position.
8. Means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel including a water tank, a conductor leading therefrom, a siphoning device having a depressible discharge for leading waterfrom the tank into said conductor, said tank provided with an opening for charging said tank with water, a movable closure for said tank-charging opening, .and means operable upon the depression of said siphoning device for preventing opening movement of said closure while the discharge of the siphoning device is in a depressed position.
9. Means for supplying water to a concrete mixing or conveying vessel including a water tank, a conductor leading therefrom, a siphoning device having a depressible discharge for leading water from the tank into said conductor, said tank provided with an opening for charging said tank with water. a rotatable closure to engage said tank to close said opening, and means operable upon the depression of the siphoning device to engage said closure to prevent rotation thereof to open said tank-charging opening.
