Our invention relates to railway rolling stock and consists in a novel railway underframe structure and more particularly in the combination of a fluid reservoir and a fluid brake cylinder with the underframe.
Customarily, reservoirs and brake cylinders have been completed separately from the underframe structure of the vehicle and have been provided with flanges adapted to beattached to brackets secured to the vehlcle framing and by which the reservoirs and cylinder bodies themselves have been secured in place. Such fabricated construction requires frequent and detailed lnspect on to see that the rivets or bolts are tight to insure maintenance of proper assembly.
Attention is directed to our copending application, Serial No. 368,509, filed J une 5, 1929, in which we show brake cylinder bodre integral with a locomotive frame.
The main object of our invention s to secure a rigid and permanent relationship between the air reservoir and brake cylinder member on the one hand and the underframe structure and air reservoir and brake cylinder member on the otherhand by making the reservoir and cylinder member integral with the underframe or a part thereof.
Another object of our invention is to reduce maintenance attention and delays by making the reservoir and cylinder member integral with the underframe or a part thereof.
Other detail objects of our invention will appear from a reading of thefollowin'g description of the device with reference to the accompanying drawings of'the same. I
The reservoir and brake cylinder elements may be formed integrally with the underframe structure by casting or by any combination of the methods of casting, welding, forging, etc. i

In the structure illustrated in the first five figures, the sides of the underframe are indicated at 1, and are integrallyconnecte'd by spaced transoms2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, which are integrally connected to parallel longitudinal center sills 7 and 8.
In this form of our invention, the reservoir member 9 and load brake cylinder member 10 comprise a unit which extends between the two transomst and 5 and, is integrally connected to those transoms and thereby held in permanent rigid relation with the underframe of the vehicle. The reservoir is usually of cylindrical shape but may be made of oval or any other shape more desirable in the particular structure. Y I

Connecting the brake cylinders and the'reservoir is a system of brake rigging by means of which any approved braking system may be operated by fluid pressure or hand, as is I desirable.
In'the modification illustrated in Figures 6 and 7, a portion of an under-frame structure is shown in which a fluid reservoir and brake cylinder body 31 are formed integral with each other and disposed end to end and united with the transoms 32 and 33. The outer end" wall of the reservoir merges with the web of transom 32. Running through the reservoir 30 and welded to the ends thereof is a tube 34 leading from the triple valve 35 through the opposite end 36 of the reservoir also formingthe cylinder pressure head.
In the modification illustrated in Figure 8, the reservoir member 40 has one end 41 separable. i In the modification illustrated in Figure 9, the reservoir 50 is like the one shown in Figures 6 and 7 but extends from transom 52 to transom 53 and is integral therewith, the
transom webs forming the end walls of the reservoir, In this arrangement we have shown the brake cylinder body 51'as formed separate from the reservoir although at tached thereto. Obviously, in this and in other forms of our invention, the brake cylinder could be mounted on a different part i of the underframe.
' In the modification illustrated in Figure 10, the brake cylinder'non-pressurefhead 61 only is shown integral with the transom 62, the body 60 being formed separately and attached to the transom. No reservoir elements are involved. V

Other details in the structure of our invention may be modified without departing from the spirit thereof and we contemplate the exclusive use of allmodifications that come within the scope of our claims.
We claim 1. In a railway vehicle underframe, a center sill, a side sill,spaced transoms between said sills, and a fluidbrake reservoir body extending between and merging with said transoms and integral therewith.
2. In a railway vehicle underframe, a center sill extending substantially throughout the length of the underframe, a side sill, spaced transoms between said sills, and a fluid containing device located between said sills and extending between said transoms and integral therewith. I
3. In a railway vehicle underframe, spaced transoms, a fluid reservoir, and a brake cylin der body, said reservoir and brake cylinder body each being integral with one or more of said transoms and witheach other.
l. Ina railway vehicle underframe, a center sill, a' side sill, transoms between said sills,and a plurality of fluid containing memhers arranged end to end and integral with said transoms.

8. In a railway vehicle underframe, spaced transoms, a fluid reservoir, a load brake cylinder body and an empty brake cylinder body, said reservoirand brake cylinder bodies each being integral with one or more of said transoms.
9. In a railway vehicle underframe, a fluid reservoir, a fluid brake cylinder body, and a head for said body,all of said parts being integral with each other and with the underframe.
10. In a railway vehicle underframe, a
transom, a fluid reservoir, 'a brake cylinder body, and a head for said body, said reservoir, brake cylinder body and head being integral with said underframe and with said transom.
11. In a railway vehicle underframe, longitudinal sills, transom having a continuous vertical web between said sills, and a fluid reservoir integral with said transom and below the top thereof and extending above and below the lower portion of said web.
12. In a railway vehicle underframe, lon gitudinal sills, spaced transoms of substantial depth and each including a vertical web continuous between said sills, and a fluid reservoir integral with and extending between said transoms and located below the tops of said transoms and projecting below the same.
13. In a railway vehicle underframe, spaced transoms, a fluid reservoir, and a brake cylinder body, said reservoir and brake cylinder body being integral with each other and with said transoms and disposed endto end of each other and said transoms.
14. In a railway vehicle underframe, an integral structure comprising a center sill extending substantially throughout the length of the underframe and an air reser voir at the side thereof.
15. In a railway vehicle underframe, a center sill extending substantially throughout the length of the underframe and an air reservoir integral with said sill and positioned between said sill and the side of the underframe.
16. In a railway vehicle underframe, a center sill extending substantially throughout the length of the underframe, a side sill spaced therefrom, and an air reservoir integral with said sills and positioned between them.
17. In a railway vehicle underframe, spaced transoms, a fluid reservoir, a triple projecting below valve, and a brake cylinder body, said res ervoir being integral with one or more of said transoms, one of the walls of said reservoir being integral with the rest of the restransom, a fluid reservoir and a brake cylinder body, said brake cylinder body being disposed at the end of said reservoir and integral therewith, and said reservoir extending below and integral with said transom.
21.. In a railway vehicle underframe, an integral structure comprising a center sill and an air reservoir and a brake cylinder body. 1
