This invention relates to eyelets and more particularly to eyelets especially intended for use with clasps used in necklaces.

An object of the invention is the provision of an eyelet which may be readily and securely attached to'a part or member of a clasp of the barrel type.

Other objects will be appreciated upon reading the following specification.

m The invention will be fully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying draw ing which forms part of the application, with 15 the understanding, however, that the improvement is capable of extended appplication and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawings nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes 29 and modifications may be made therefrom as do not afiect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claims.

Fig. 1 is a plan view of the clasp of the barrel type comprising a pair of cooperating members secured together, each member carrying one of the improved eyelets of my invention.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the device shown in Fig. 1, the tubular members of the claspbeing shown detached in this view.

Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 2 but showing the tubular members of the clasp threaded to each other; and

Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the improved eyelet.

Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, the numeral 7 indicates a clasp member provided with a recess 8 extending from an end 9' having a reduced portion 10 exteriorly threaded. This clasp member is provided with an aperture 12 extending from the end 13 and communicating with the recess 8. The clasp member 7 is adapted to be secured to another clasp member 14: which is provided with a recess 15 extending from the inner end 16. An aperture 17 extends from the outer end 18 to the recess 15. The member 14: is interiorly threaded asindicated by the numeral, 19 so that'the reduced portion 10 of the clasp member 7 may be threadedlysecured thereto."

The eyelet 20 comprises a head21 having an aperture-.22 and a shank 23 extending from the head and a branched or bifurcated Y end extending from the shank, the branches being indicated by the numerals. 24: and 25. 2 These branches are adapted to be spread apart laterally. An eyelet of the kind described is intended. to be attached to each of the members 7 and 14.. In order to attach or connect the eyelet to the mentioned members the bifurcated ends of the eyelets are passed through the apertures 12 and 17 respectively, before the branches 24 and 25 are spread apart, and before the clasp members 7 and 1 1 are threaded together. The branched or bifurcated ends extend into the recesses 8 and 15 of the clasp members 7 and 14, respectively, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The branches 24 and 25 are then spread apart laterally by means of any suitable instrument to the positions shown in Fig. 3 in such positions the mentioned branches function to hold the respective eyelets to the respective clasp members as shown in Fig. 3 and the eyelets in such position are swivelly connected to the clasp 5 i members.

What is claimed as new is:

1. A clasp, comprising a hollow'sectional body member with the sections detachably connected, and eye members swiveled in the remote ends of said body member, each eye member comprising an eye portion and a connected solid shank portion passing loosely through an aperture in said body member and having its inner end bifurcated with the arms 7 0f the bifurcation spread laterally to prevent withdrawal of said shank.

2. A clasp, comprising a hollow body member of two sections threadedly connected, and eye members swiveled in opposite sides of said body member, each eye member comprising an eye portion integral with a solid shank passing through an aperture in said body to accomplish said swiveling and split at its inner end for spreading to hold the eye member against falling out.

3. A clasp, comprising a hollow body member of two sections threadedly connected, and eye members swiveled in opposite sides of said body member, each eye member comprising an eye portion integral with a solid shank passing through an aperture in said body to accomplish said swiveling and split at its inner end for spreading to hold the eye member against falling out, said eye members being stamped out from sheet metal.

4. A one piece eyelet comprising a head having an aperture, a solid shank extending from and integral with the head and a branched end extending from and integral with the shank, the branches being adapted to be spread apart, in combination with a clasp member having a recess extending from one end thereof and an aperture extending from its other end and communicating with the recess the head of the eyelet being exterior to the clasp member, the shank passing through the aperture and the branches spread I apart to hold the eyelet to the clasp member,

the eyelet being adapted for swiveling relative to the clasp member.
