The present invention'relates to track circuit systems, andthi's application is a division of one filed February 3, 1927, Ser. No. 165,603, now Patent No.1,807,330, dated May This invention has for its mainobject and feature the provision of simple and effective means whereby the entry of a train in a track section will place a current of a given character, such as an alternating current derived from a local source of direct current, on the rails of the section. Such current may, of course, be used for any purpose desired, such as the control of a train travelling over the track section.
In the accompanying drawing the invention is disclosed, in a concrete and preferred form, in a diagrammatic view showing a traflic track and wayside elements associated therewith.
1 and 2 indicates trafiic rails arranged in blocks or sections W, X and Y by means of insulation 3. The normal direction of travel is indicated by the arrow. The usual track is here shown as being supplied with current from battery 316 connected to the rails, at the outgoing end of the section, by leads 326 and 327, armatures 330 and 331 and back contacts 318 and 319. At the other (ingo-ing) end of the section or block is the usual track, relay 151 with an exponent denoting its block location. 332 indicates a battery forming part of a normally open circuit that includes motor 320, interrupter 321, armatures 333 and 334 and primary 322 of a transformer Tm.
The secondary 323 of the transformer is included in a normally open circuit that comprises wires 324 and 329, front contacts 325 and 328, armatures 330 and 331fand leads326 gized relay that controls armatures 330, 331, 333 and 334, and it will be seen that, so long as this relay is deenergized, current is supplied from battery 316 to the rails and to track relay 15100, but that the circuit that includes secondary 323, as well as the circuit that insection;

It will now be seen that under normal conditions (when thereis no train in sectionsX and Y) track relays 151a T and 151y will both'be energized and conse-- quently relay 317 will be deenergized owing to the fact that armature 336 is up. If now a train enters section X from section W, track relay 1510; will be deenergized thereby drops ping armature 336 and inconsequence (provided track relay l51y is energized) relay 317 will become energized thereby picking up its armature and rupturing the connection from battery 316 to therails, but closing the two circuits that include primary 322 and sec ondary 323 of transformer T00. This will cause current to flow from battery 332 to motor 320 and interrupter 321, and the interrupted current will energize primary 322. This, in turn, will induce an alternating current in secondary 323 which will be sup-' plied to the rails where it can .be picked up by the train or otherwise utilized. If, howcircuit maybe of any suitable character, and
thereby preventing the energization of relay 317. If'section Yis unoccupied and a train enters section X from :W when another train is already in section X, then the train so entering will receive no current from the rails because all the current will have been shunted by the first train.
