Description

June 28,, 1932. J, D FUTCH 1,865,182
WINDOW DISPLAY DEVICE Filed 001;. 31, 1931 j 9- 7/ I I 5 %Z 1 i i -i g Gttonleg Patented June 28 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WINDOW DISPLAY DEVICE Application filed October 31, 1931.. Serial No. 572,323.
This invention relates to sign display devices and has special reference to a window sign.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel arrangement of window sign adapted for use in connection with a store window or the like and wherein all or most of the display may be readily changed from time to time Without disturbing the main structure of the invention.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a novel form of sign so arranged as to appear as though it were set in the glass of a store window or the like.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a novel sign of this character adapted to be viewed as a transparency, the sign being illuminated from the back and viewed from in front.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a store window showing the sign as used in connection therewith.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the inner frame.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the outer frame.
Figure 4: is a vertical transverse section of the invention used with an opaque insert.
Figure 5 is a similar section showing the arrangement when the device is used to produce the appearance of a transparency.
In the embodiment of the invention there is provided an inner frame of cardboard, Wood or other suitable material and this frame is of rectangular form. The frame consists of a bottom member 10, end members 11 and a pair of laterally spaced top members 12. The members 10 and 11 have their inner edges grooved or channeled as at 14;. This frame is pasted, glued or cemented on the inner face of a Window pane 15. An advertising card 16 is removably fitted in the channels of the frame by being slipped down between the parts 12. The advertising card may either be opaque, or all or partially transparent or translucent and, in the latter cases, a colored film or sheet 17 of transparent or translucent material such as celluloid is slipped into the frame behind the card.
With the inner frame secured to the glass 15 the adhesive is apt to present an inartistic and untidy appearance. In order to prevent this there is provided an outer frame 18 of material similar to the inner frame and of proper size and proportions to entirely cover the face of the inner frame when applied to the outer face of the glass in registering relation to the inner frame. The frame 18 is adhesively secured to the glass in such registering relation and may also bear advertising matter if desired. Thus the complete device presents a neat appearance and the card may be changed as often as desired.
It will be understood that the glass used as the supporting element is not necessarily confined to the glass of a show window. The glass of a door, a show case or other suitable glass may be used. In any case the glass forms a support.
There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. A display device including a supporting sheet of glass, an inner frame adhesively secured to one face of the glass and slotted and grooved to receive a display card, and an outer frame adhesively secured to the other face of the glass in registering relation to the inner frame.
2. A display device including a supporting sheet of glass, an inner frame adhesively secured to one face of the glass and slotted and grooved to receive a display card, and an 5 outer frame adhesively secured to the other face of the glass in registering relation to the inner frame said outer frame being of at least equal dimensions to the inner frame to fully conceal said inner frame from front view.
3. A display device including a supporting sheet of glass, an inner frame adhesively secured to one face of the glass andslotted and grooved to receive a display card, an outer frame adhesively securedto the other face of the glass in registering relation to the inner frame, and a display card removably held in said inner frame. V 4. A display device'including a supporting sheet of glass, an inner frame adhesively secured to one face of the glass and slotted and grooved to. receive a display card, an outer rame 'adhesively secured to the other face of 'theglass in registering relation to the inner frame, said outer frame being of at least equal dimensions to the inner frame to fully conceal saidinner frame from front view, and a display card removably held in said inner frame.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JEFFERSON D. FUTOH.
