An important Vobject of the invention Vis to provide a box or container with supporting legs formed as continuations of certain sides of the boxfto support the bottom of thecontainer in spaced relation to the object upon which it is to be supported. While susceplc tible of a multiplicity of different purposes, the box is especially adaptable as a container for cakes or confections and being ofinexpensive manufacture, can form the container for'the confection when sold, thereby placing at the disposal of the purchaser, an attractive container in 'which the confection c an be served at the table; the supporting legs holding the bottom of the container spaced from 1 the table to prevent any grease which might have impregnated the bottom from soiling the table or its dress. f

Another important object of the invention is to provide a single blank of material scored to form a plurality of side panels for the box,

alternate panels of which are extended beyond the adjoining vpanels to Aform foldable flaps adapted to be folded into overlapping,

interlocked relation to constitute the bottom` M.. of the box with openings provided at the corners thereof; the overlapping and interlockingof the bottom vflaps also'serving to' prevent separation of the ends of the blank constituting the side panels. A further object of the invention is to provide a blank which may be rapidly folded to form a box and possessing a construction and arrangement of parts which will assist in retaining the box in set up position for use. USince the side panels alternate in size throughout the length of the blank and an even number is provided, arelatively wide panel l2 will form one end of the blank and a relatively narrow panel ll will constitute the other end thereof, which ends are adapted to be secured ytogether when theblank is folded yon the score lines. j.

In order to interlock these two ends, the relatively narrow` end Y,panel 1l is provided with a' laterally projecting tab 13 adapted to overlap and be secured to the lateral endV interlocking means are provided, consisting of a pair of locking tongues 14 formed on the tab 13 adapted to be entered in a pair of spaced slits 15 provided in the end panel 12, after which they are bent over on the inside of the end panel 12. The tab 13 formsan integral extension of the end panel 11 and is folded along the fold or score line 16 parallel to the score lines 10 so that this tabA can assume the polygonal shape of the side@ walls of the box at one corner thereof. In'

effect, then, the side walls of the container are formed from a band having its ends equipped with interlocking means for holding theA band in a continuous formation to constitute the polygonal container.

The bottoln of the container is preferably formed from integral extensions of the single blank of material. These extensions 17, 18, 19, and 2O are of substantially rectangular shape and are considerablylonger than the blank 7 is wide. They are formed as lateral extensions of the alternate relatively wide side panels 12 and are foldable therefrom to be disposed at substantially right anglestheref toalong a fold or score line 21 extending. longitudinally ofthe blank but only across the panels 12 to define bottom flaps 17 to 20.

7|Thus, in the present illustration, two pairs of bottom flaps are provided and are adapted to be folded inwardly in the same direction alongthe score lines 21 sothat alternate bottom flaps constituting a pair, extend toward one another from opposed side panels of the box when formed.

. In order to interlock a pair ofthe bottom flaps, the flap 17 is cut and formed at its two outer corners to provide a pair of laterally ex.- tending tongues 22 which are adapted tobe inserted through a pair of slits 23 provided in the extension 19 adjacent its fold line 21,

after which the tongues are bent over the flap' side panels, separation of the ends of the. body 7 will be retarded.

lt will be noted that the flap 19 is longer than its brother 17 and extends across the full Vwidth of the container. The bottom iap 2O which extends from the end most panel 12 Y-is considerably shorter than its brother 18 and is adapted tobe inserted between the bottom flaps 17 and 19, lor if desired, it may be arranged torlie on top of the upper flap 19. It is, however, preferable to insert theA bottom flap 2O between the two interlocked flaps 17 and 19, since flap 20 extends from the end panel 12 and will, by its frictional engagei ment between the two interlocked flaps, resist any tendency for the tongues 14 to become accidentally disengaged from their slits r 15, although prevented from vsuch action by reason of the tabs 14 being bent over on the inside wall of the box and thereby prevented from accidental displacement by engagement with the object placed in the box.

The bottom flap 18 is of a length to extend entirely across the box from one side panel to the opposed side panel and presents a plain, flat, unobstructedL top surface for the container bottom so as not to mar the cake or confection placed in the box. Due to the rectangular configuration of the bottom iapsA and the fact that they extend from opposed side panels in pairs, it will be observed that after they are folded and interlocked, as ex plained above, triangular openings 30 are provided in the four corners of the bottom, which in someuses of'the box will serve as Ventilating or drainage apertures. y

In order to space the bottom of the container from an object upon which it is supported, supporting legs are provided which not only enhance the appearance of the container, but' as stated before, serve to support the bottom which may become greasy, in spaced relation to the table or other object on which it` rests, as well as for the purpose of Ventilating the container or provide for proper drainage in certain uses of the box.

kThese supporting legs are formed integral with the blank and have lateral extensions 24 of the alternate side panels 11. These extensions project from the same side of the blank as the bottom flaps and extend in the same general direction prior to the folding of the bottom flaps on the lines 21, but are considerably shorter than the bottom flap extensions, as clearly shown. In order to provide for the folding of the bottom flaps along the score lines 21 without bending the extensions 24 of the panels 11 out of the respective planes of these side panels, the blank is slit as at 25 along lines coinciding with the score lines 10 and extending from the free ends of the extensions 24 up to the score lines 21.

By reason of this construction, the bot-tom flaps 17 to 20 can be folded along the score lines 21 as hereinbefore specified, thereby leaving the leg extensions 24 of the side panels 11 arranged in the same planes with their respective panels to thereby form rigid supporting legs' for the container and formed as continuations of the side panels 11.

Since the score lines 21 are disposed inwardly of the lower edges of the-leg extensions 24, it will be obvious that the bottom of the box will be supported in spaced relationship to the object upon which it is arranged. It 1s tobe understood that various changes 1n the size, shape, and arrangement of partsV may be resorted tok Without departing from the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

l. A collapsible box formed from a blank having transverse score lines dividing the same into a plurality of panels which when folded form sides for the box, alternate panels forming opposed sides of the box having bottom flaps extended therefrom and folded into interlocked relation to form the bottom of the box, and the entire intervening panels being extended beyond the bottom of the box to form supporting legs supporting the box bottom in spaced relation to an object upon which it is placed.

2. A collapsible box formed from a blank having transverse score lines dividing the same into a plurality of panels Which When folded form sides for the box, alternate panels forming opposed sides of the box having bottom flaps extended therefrom and folded into overlapping relation to form the bottom of the box, said bottom flaps having tongue and slit interlocking means, and the entire intervening panels being extended beyond the bottom of the box to form supporting legs supporting the box bottom in spaced relation to an object upon Which it is placed.

3. A collapsible box formed from a blank having transverse score lines dividing the same into a plurality of panels which when folded form sides for the box, alternate panels forming opposed sides of the box having bottom iaps extended therefrom and folded into interlocked relation to form the bottom of the box, a third bottom flap extending from a side panel and adapted to be interposed betvveen said interlocked flaps, and the entire intervening panels being extended beyond the bottom of the box to form supporting legs supporting the box bottom in spaced relation to an object upon which it is placed.

A collapsible box formed from a blank having transverse score lines dividing the i same into a plurality of panels Which when folded form sides for the box, alternate panels forming opposed sides of the box having bottom fiaps extended therefrom and folded into overlapping relation to form the bottom of the box, a flap extending from a side panel and adapted to overlap the aforesaid flaps and having an unbroken surface extending entirely across the bottom of said box, and the intervening panels being extended beyond the bottom of the box to form supporting legs supporting the box bottom in spaced relation to an object upon which it is placed.

5. A foldable box blank having transverse fold lines dividing the same into a plurality of panels, fold lines extending longitudinally of the blank and across each alternate panel, said alternate panels being extended laterally beyond said longitudinally extending fold lines to provide bottom flaps, the

' intervening alternate panels being extended in the same direction as the bottom flaps beyond said longitudinal fold lines to provide leg extensions and said blank being slit between said extensions along lines coinciding With said transverse fold lines and from the ends of said leg extensions to said longitudinal fold lines.

6. A collapsible box comprising side panels, the entire Width of alternate panels being extended to form supporting legs, and the intervening panels being formed with extensions constituting foldable bottom aps foldable along lines spaced above the lower ends of said legs and extended inwardly in overlapping relation.
