Description

E. LUSTGARTEN MEANS FOR SECURING TAPES TO GARMENTS Filed Feb. 14, 1951 June 211, 1932.
E n l INVENTOR TTORNEY Ma/59m@ manner and in r 2 to form a loop.
Patented June 21, 1932 MEANS Foa sEcURING TAPES To eARivrENTs Application filed February 14,
My invention relates to means for attaching removable and adjustable straps or tapes to garments and it is my object to produce such means in a neat, quick and inexpensive which any desired adjustment be quickly and easily made and in which the metal portion of the adjusting means will be buried or enclosed in fabric in such manner that it will be entirely concealed and kept out of Contact with the body and garments of the wearer. If straps of a different color are to be substituted or if the straps or tapes attached to the garment are soiled, or if they are elastic, containing rubber, they may be quickly and easily removed from the garment when it is washed and later replaced. My invention is particularly applicable to the supporting shoulder straps of garments and the like and to garters and the like which are to be attached to or removed from a garment. A
In the drawing Fig. l is a plan view, partly broken away, of my improved securing means; Fig. 2 a sectional view of the structure of Fig. l on the line 2-2 thereof; Fig. 3 a plan view of my metal clip about to be attached to a strap; Fig. 4 an edge view of the clip on a strap before the clip has been closed; Fig. 5 a perspective View of my clip; and Fig. 6 a view of a modified form of loop used in carrying out my invention.
To practice my invention a short piece of fabric l is sewe or otherwise attached, to the edge or adjacent the edge of a garment It may be attached directly to the garment or it may be attached to a tape which is later sewed to the garment, the result being the same in either case.
This loop l is substantially as long as the strap to be secured is wide but the edge against which the pull of the strap or tape is exerted is contracted or narrowed. This contraction may take the form of inwardly eX- tending tack stitches 3 3 as shown in Fig. 1, or converging lines of stitches 3-`3 as shown in Fig. 6 or in any other desired manner. In Fig. 6 the loop l is sewed to the tape 2 by means of the converging lines of stitches 3-3, as above described.
A metal clip 5 is formed with two integral of length may serial No. 515,731.
faces 6 and 7 with 'a slot lat their meeting edges, the metal ing shoulders or at the ends of the slot formabutments. VOne face 6 may be provided with inwardly extending fabric engaging prongs 9 and the other face 7 may provided with co-operating apertures l0. Other fabric engaging means may be substituted for the prongs and apertures without departing from my invention. The ends of the clip are preferably curved to allow easy entrance into the loop or clip 5 is slightly spread and 5 and the strap or pocket. In use the as shown in Figs. 3 webbing 1l to be attached to the garment is slipped through the slot 8. The faces of the c-lip are then pressed together so that the fabric engaging means,
(prongs and apertures gage the fabric.
being shown) will en- The strap may then be cut off flush with the end of the clip opposite the slot.
When the strap ll is to be adjusted for length the clip end `is pulled out of the loop or pocket, the clip 5 spread slightly and slid to any desired position on the strap after which it is again closed down to engage the strap and the strap and clip pulled into the pocket.
By this construction the loops may be sewed to the garment'by an automatic sewing machine, the metal clips slipped on the straps and clinched and the the loops'quickly,
straps passed `throu h easily and cheaply. T e
length of the straps may be adjusted to any desired point, no matter how small, and the metal clip s buried in the fabric so that it cannot come into contact with the skin or garments of the wearer.
