Description

N UNITED STATES PATENT OEEroEo JOHN B. MARSHALL, OF BABNESVILLE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO J. B. MGPHERSON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Y Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,357, dated January 16, 1877 application filed November 22, 1876.
To all who/m, it may concern.-
to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this speciication.
The nature of my invention consists in the f construction and arrangement of a cnrtainixture for the purpose of lowering the curtain from the top, as will be hereinafter more t'ully set forth. y
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the' same, I will 110W proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a window with curtain embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged front view of a part thereof', partly in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view ot the sliding block used at each end ot' the curtain-roller.
A represents an ordinary window-frame. B is the curtain, attached to the usual roller (l, which, at one end, is provided with the pulley D, for attachment of the curtain-cord for wind ing and unwinding the curtain. The roller C is, at each end, provided with a pivot, a, having on its outer end a disk or fiange, b. lhis may be constructed, as shown at the side ot' Fig. 2, with a shank, d, to be driven into the end of the roller, or in any other suitable man ner.
Grepresents an elongated block, made of metal or wood, and provided on its front and rear sides with a vertical groove, e, as shown in Fig. 3. This block has also ahole, h, through it from side to side, and a slot, t', extending downward from said hole a suitable distance.
The disk b and pivot c are passed through the hole h, and the pivot pressed down into the slott, the disk b preventing the pivot from coming out of the block.
The blocks G G at the ends ot' the roller U may be arranged on the inner sides of the window-frame A, either between two strips, I I, or between one strip I and a rod, J, in which latter case the rod fits in'one ot` the grooves c on the block or the blocks may be arranged between two rods, J', on the front ofthe frame, when both rods t in the grooves con ,the blocks. In either case the blocksvare perifectl y guided and heldin place, Aand the blocks being provided with the two grooves, they cau be applied to the window-frame in any manner desired.
rIhe blocks G G are suspended by lneans of a cord,m, the ends of which are passed through screw-eyes n n, down to and attached to the blocks.
By this means the curtain can be applied to any window, and be lowered from the top as much or as little as may be desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is a The combination of the blocks G G, each provided with the vertical grooves c c, hole li, and slot i, the curtain-roller C, provided at each end with the pivot a, having disk b, the cord m, and screw-eyes fn; u, all constructed' substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN B. MARSHALL.
Witnesses:
HENRY N. MILLER, W. C. MGAETHUE.
