Patented Nov. 1 0 1857.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORATIO STANLEY, OF GREEN TOYVNSHIP, ERIE COUNTY, PIENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 18,609, dated November 10, 1857.
specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my machine with all its parts adjusted in working order. A A are wheels revolving on the axle-tree B B. C is the frame on which the axle-tree is hung, and also to which the tongue R is attached. D D is a seat and platform.
Fig.2 represents the frame of the plowshare and mold-board. P is the share of the plow. X is the colter. N is a lever on which the gaging-roller S is hung. This frame is hung on the axle-tree B B by the boxes w w. This frame and the shareP arelowered orraised at pleasure by means of a chain, T, hooked onto the pin U.
Between the frame-pieces H and E are hung four or more rollers, L, K,J, and I. These rollers diminish in length from I to L, and have concave surfaces, as shown in drawings, and are so hunginthesaidframeHandE,by meansofjournals l 2 3 4, that the concave surface of the rollers correspond wit-h the required curve of the mold-board, so as to turn overthe sward in the same manner as is now done by a common plow.
Any number of these plows can he conveniently suspended on the axle-treeB B, thus making a gang-plow.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction of the plow-frame with the rollers, as described, and so constructed that any number may be attached to the same axletree by means of the frame, Fig. 2, constructed as described, or anyother substantially the same.
