This invention relates to means for holding a drill or bit and adjusting the same on an emery wheel while the bit is being sharpened, the general object of the inventionbeing to provide means whereby the end of the bit can be sharpened properly on an emery wheel or the like, while being held in the device by the manipulation of a single hand operated lever and by giving a rotary holder for :3 the bit a half turn after one-half of the end bit has been sharpened.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to
e hereinafter ully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference Will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is an elevation of the device showing a bit held therein.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken through the central part of Fig. 3 with parts in elevation.
In these drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a base, and the numeral 2 indicates a frame supported by the base. The upper edge of the frame is formed with a guideway 3 for a sliding plate 4 which supports a standard 5.

The collar 7 extends at right angles to the collar 6 and a bar 9 passes through the collar 7 has a collar 10 I connected therewith adjacent one end thereof. A ring 11 is connected with the collar 10 and depends therefrom and a second ring 12 is rotatably arranged in the ring 11, and antifrlction means 11 are placed between the two rings to reduce friction and to hold the two rings together.

A substantially U-shaped member 28 depends from the out-er part of the lever 26 and has one, of its limbs offset to engage the bell crank 19 when the'lever 26 ismoved in a direction tomove the parts towards the emery wheel, (not shown), with which the. cutting end of the bit A is adapted to engage.
This engagement of the bell crank by the the bell crank to rock on its pivot, thus pushing the link 18' upwardly, which raises the rear end of the rod 9 and lowers its opposite end, and the forward movement of the standard causes the link 22 to-tilt the lever20 so that said lever will raise the collars 6 and 7 on the standard, and as these collars move upwardly the set screw 24 engaging the cam groove 25, and will cause the collar 6 to partly rotate on the standard.
Thus this combined movement of the parts then the parts are moved forwardly again or towards the wheel to sharpen and bevel the second half of the end of the bit.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combinationand arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a frame, a member slidably arranged on the frame, a standard carried by the member, a collar on the standard, a second collar arranged at right angles to the first collar and pivoted thereto, a rod passing through the second collar, a bit holder rotatably supported by the front end of said rod, a lever pivoted to the frame for moving the sliding memberand standard thereon, and means actuated by the movement of the lever for tilting the bar and at the same time moving the front end of the bar in an arcuate path to cause onehalf of the end of a bit held in the holder to be sharpened and beveled.

A device of the class described comprising a base, a slide member supported on the base, a standard carried by the slide member, a collar encircling the standard, a second collar arranged at right angles to the first collar and pivoted thereto, a bar passing through the second collar, a ring connected with the front end of the bar and depending therefrom, a second ring rotatably supported in the first ring, a drill bit holder carried by the second ring, means for yieldably holding. the second ring in either one of two positions,
one position being diametrically opposite the other position, a lever pivoted to the frame and engaging a part of the standard for moving the standard and slide member on the base, a bell crank pivoted to the frame, a link connecting one'end thereof to the rear end of the bar, a part on the lever for engaging the bell crank to tilt the same when the lever is moved to advance the slide member and the standard, whereby the links will raise the rear end of the bar, and lower the front end thereof, a second lever pivotally supported from the frame and engaging the first collar, a link connecting said lever with the standard whereby said second lever will be rocked
