rlllhe present invention relates to stockings for the protection and confinement of varicose veins, said stockings containing no ndia rubber and being fitted to the leg only by virtue of being fashioned during the knitting of the stocking with gencratrices arranged along certain longitudinal lines.

fiiuch stockings are at present 1nanufactured upon flat web knitting machines by making longitudinal fashioning generatrices or lines at both ends of the machine, grouped close together along two diametrically opposed longitudinal sides of the stocking in rows of twos, threes, fours, etc. llllhen thus grouped, these longitudinal fashioninp' lines or generatrices are too apparent to an observer. ln addition, their disposal on only two sides of the stocking causes great (liderences in the elasticity of the stocking at the various points of the periphery, because the elasticity thus obtained is excessive in the vicinity of the fashioning generatrices and is reduced to the natural elasticity of the fabric at the places between the two groups of fashioning generatrices.

My invention has for its object a stocking of this lzind formed not only with two diametrically opposed longitudinal lines or generatrices as in the known types, but now formed along four equidistant longitudinal lines located respectively at the two sides and at the front and rear of the stocking.

The elasticity of the stocking will thus be distributed with greater uniformity around the leg and due to this regular distribution single longitudinal lines can be used which are less visible and will give no evidence of the orthopedic nature of the stocking.

The accompanying drawings show by way of example two embodiments of my invention.

Figure 1 shows the upper part of a stocle ing having four generati-ieee arranged along evenly spaced longitudinal lines.

Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing` another form of the stocking, with four double generatrices arranged along longitudinal lines which are evenly spaced at the front, at the rear, and at each side of the stocking.

As shown in Figure l, the stocking includes four single generatrices arranged along longitudinal lines 1 at the rear, 2 at the front, and 3 on each side, in the middle of the stocking as folded, forming four sectors which are practically equal around the periphery.

To hold the stocking stretched upon the leg, use is made at the upper part of the stocking of four elastic clasps a, a and a which are placed adjacent the top of each of the generatrices, and hence due to these latter and to the contraction of the knitted yarn, the stocking will exert upon the wearerls leg a pressure and an upward action which is quite uniform upon the whole periphery. The leg is thus well encased, and the circulation of the blood is assured, without prejudice to the respiratory func tions of the skin.

As shown in Figure 2, all the generatrices are double, the stocking being shown as folded along the rear and front double fashioning generatrices 1 and 2, though said generatrices appear to be single. The double fashioning generatrices 3 and 3 arranged in the middle on both sides of the stocking is shown separated by four unfashioned gener atrices in order to render it less apparent. However it is obvious that the two parts of said double generatrices 3 and 3 may be put farther apart or nearer together.

It will be also observed in Figure 2 that the generatrices in the middle part of the stocking are fashioned along the stocking twice to each fashioning at the sides but any other arrangement can be used.

Having now particularly described my invention, what I claim is l. A stocking for the protection and confinement of varicose veins having practically invisible fashioning generatrices arranged along four equidistant longitudinal lines located respectively on both sides of the stocking and in the front and rea-r thereof.

2. A stocking for the protection and con finement of varicose veins having four practically invisible single fashioning generatrices arranged along equidistant longitudinal lines located respectively on both sides of the stocking and in the front and rear thereof.

A stocking for the protection and confinement of varicose veins having four prac'- ticall7 invisible double fashioning generatrices arrangedinspaced relation along equidistant longitudinal lines located respectively on both sides of the stocking' and in the front and rear thereof and a, plurality of unfashi'oned generatrices between the two fashioned Wales of each of said double ashioning generatrices in order to render them still less apparent.
