This invention relates to devices for engaging sheets such as sheets of plaster board, fibre board, compoboard. and like building elements with each other and with supporting elements such as angle irons, T-irons, supporting rods, bars, etc., to thus support these elements upon these supporting rods or beams without the use of nails or like devices and the object of the invention is to provide devices of this character which may be made out of sheet metal, which may be cheaply formed, readily used and which will properly engage the sheets of plaster board or other material of this nature to the supporting elements.
Other objects will appear in the course of the following description.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a sectionthrough a piece of wall board with a supporting iron or element therefor and our improved clip applied thereto;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the clip shown in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a slightly modified form of clip.
In Figure 1, we have illustrated one form of our invention which comprises a channelshaped member 10 preferably formed of sheet metal, though not necessarily so, from which depends shank 11 of a hook 12. This shank 11 is connected to the channel-shaped member 10 by means of the web 18 which as illustrated is integral with the channel-shaped member 10 and with the shank 11. The shank 11 is shown as extending straight outward from the channel 10 at right angles to the length of the channel and theweb 13 is integral with and in the same plane as the lower flange of the channel lOand extended above the hook 12. The channel 10 may be of any desired length, depending upon circumstances and may be perforated as at 14 for the purpose of interlocking with plaster or may be otherwise formed so that plaster will bond thereon.
In the use of this device, the memberll is applied against a beam, as for instance, an angle iron, channel iron or-the like with the part 13 resting upon the top of the beam whilethe hook 12' engages beneath the vertical 5 flange, of the channel iron. The plaster board 15 or otherbuilding board has its edgev inserted between the upper andlower flanges of the channel 10 while the clip formed of the parts 11 and 12 engages the supporting member 16; In Figure 1, this supporting member is shown as an angle iron.
It is to be understood, however, that any type of angle iron, channel iron, any type of me tallic lumber joist, bar or rod may be used g with this clip, it being understood, however, that the particular form of the 'hook and the length of the shank will depend entirely upon th size of channel iron, angle iron, bar or other form of joist or studding which may be 7 used and that these supporting elements 16 may extend vertically or horizontally and support the building board 15either vertically or horizontally as desired. i
In- Figure 4, we illustrate the construction 7 shown in Figure 1 but with the web 13 reversed with relation to the position of the web in Figure 1. This is to illustrate thatthe position of the web and of the depending shank and the position of the hook may be 30 varied depending entirely upon circumstances and we wish'it fully understood that the channel 10 may be long or it may be short, depending entirely upon the distance apart of the supporting rods. These clips may be placed so as to be in engagement with each other at the ends of the channel or to be spaced apart depending upon the circumstances. The same is true with regard to the depth and width of the channel 10. If the plaster board is relatively thin, the flanges of the particular channel used will be near together. If the material is thick and heavy, the channel need not be narrow and, of course, the flanges will be far apart. 11 will, of course, vary with the distance between the supporting element 16 and the building board. Inasmuch as one of the flanges of the channel 10 will be disposed upon that side of the building board 15 to 1 The length of the shank y which plaster is to be applied it is preferable to form this side of the channel with the apertures 14 or with means whereby bond between the plaster and the channel can be secured.
It is to be understood that by the term building board we include any material formed in a sheet which may be used 1n building or any material which may be used 1 as a base for plaster.
Obviously also the thickness of the sheet metal from which these clips are formed may be varied, nor do we wish to be limited to the use of these clips as being formed of sheet 15 metal, though sheet metal will be preferable.
We claim 1. A clip for holding building board to supporting elements, the clip comprising a substantially channel-shaped portion within which the edge of a building board may be engaged, an integral shank extending from one end of the channel-shaped portion and at right angles to the length of the channel,
l and a hook formed on the extremity of the shank and extending in a direction toward the opposite end of the channel-shaped porl tion from the shank, the shank and one flange of the channel shaped portion being connected by an integral web flush with the flange of the channel-shaped portion and disposed to confront the extremity of the hook.

As an article of manufacture, a clip for holding building board to supporting elements, comprising a substantially channel- 5 shaped portion, having opposed parallel flanges, a web integral with one of said flanges and projecting outward from and in the same plane as said flange, and an integral shank extending from the projecting portion of the web at right angles to the length of the channel1 and having an integral hook at its outer 3.
