the guideblocks 16-*16 so that the cutting ed f extends below these blocks and is not v y absolutely accurate. In other words, no mata ected thereby.
The bed is also provided with other grooves 31 and 32 in which are mounted bars 33 and 34. These bars slide longitudinally, and are provided with spaced recesses 35, and a pin 36 is insertedthrough one of said recesses andinto a socket 37 in the bed, shown more particularly at Figure 5. Each ofthese bars 34 carriesan eccentric clamping member 38 which is provided with an upstandln ilange 39 so that by operating one of Vsai clamping members, work interlyingsaid clam ing member and'it-s adjacent guide may be c amped firmly therebetween. r Y
As shown at Figure 1, the guides 20 and 21 i are set approximately at 90 relative to each other, an the saw 28 is positioned to bisect this angle forming a miter ofy Mitering at 45 is, of course, done in the great majority f: cases, but mitering at othery angles is vat times necessary. To set the device to form a miter to fit any angle, the angle is first secured on abevel, and the bevel applied to the guide members. In the case of a 45 miter, the angle will be securedby the use of an ordinary carpgnters square. The clamping screws 26 will V*loosened and the bar 12 moved longitudinally yuntil ,the remote sidesof the guide members it exactly to the inside of the square. The clamping members 26 are now tightened to hold these guide members in this position, and work placed between one guide member and its adjacent clampingy member,l and clamped therein, the bar 34 being moved as necessity :requires to accommodate the work.
The saw, being now employed, ,will bisectthe 909 angle andorm a 45 angle. Mitering at a 45 angle is a relatively slmple process, but mitering to fit an yangle other than 45 is far less simple. With applicants device, kan ordinary carpenters bevel is `fitted to the angle. It isthen itted to the remote sides of the guide members 20 and 21. f
Let it be assumedk that it is an acute angle that is to be fitted byffa miter and that the bevel, when set tol fit such angle, will require the yguides `to be set 1 atdotA and 4dash line positlon, shown at Figure l. -Merely setting thesefguides` to. exactly correspond to the angle to be fitted will absolutely insure a fit i oi the miter as the sawmust in allcases bisect vrthe angle whateveriit may be. It is obvious also that an obtuse angle, wherein the guides wiki .lie between. the full line positions and Vthe'dotted linepositions, will beset in the same manner., and themiter will be rcut with absolute fidelity. n As shown in dotted-lines, the guides have been set in alinement so that thesawgwill cuta angle. `Bylthe use `of this device,v` the accurate`-itting yof a miter fjointlto any angle is extremely simple `as it is always extremely simple Vto obtainfthe exact 'angle on a. carpenterls bevel. This being obwor -a vtap ony the to of therib 29 will is in condition to operate.r
rights, means slidably connecting ktioned bars.
-Lemmens tained, and the guides 20 and 21 being t0 fit this bevel, the miter cut will always be A removed, or other worlg inserted, the saw is raised to its upper limit-where it is held yieldinglly(7 by` means of the members 19. When the is inserted and the saw is readl for use, .A iSen se it so that it wil drop to position for wor When the work to be mtered iswider than would .be `received vwith the 'parts arranged as-shown in full lines at Fi ure 1, the pivot screwsf22 are removed, the ar 12 movedt the left until thesey screws will engage some pairs ofy perforations as 4those shown at 23. Thescrews are again nserted,`and the device The miter machine, herein illustrated, may be'modied in various ,ways without ydeparting from the invention herein set forthand hereinafter claimed..V l
