This invention relates to sanitary seat cov ers adapted for use on the ordinary toilet seat, and more particularly to such seat covers adapted for use in connection with toilet apparatus wherein the seat is movable from a non-usable position adjacent the toilet bowl to a usable position over the bowl, such as shown in my co-pending application for United States Letters Patent, Serial'No. 512,- 059, filed January 29, 1931.

`,In'apparatus of the character shown and described in my above referred to co-pending application, it is desirable to have at all times a plurality of sanitary seatV covers each comprising a sheet of flexible material having an opening therein, a flap of like vmaterial extending into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at thel front end thereof, and a pocket ora plurality of pockets extending transversely of the cover for receiving the seat so thatthe cover may be placed on the seatand pulled therewith as the seat advances to a usable position over the bowl. When seat covers of this character are used in connection with such apparatus, it is essential that they be so retained in the paper magazine that they will not become wrinkled and the flaps torn from the sheets as they are removed frein the apparatus. Consequently, by my invention I provide a pad of such sanitary seat covers which is so arranged that the flaps of the various covers will not wrinkle and will not be torn from the main body of the covers as they are moved forward by the seat. If a pad of such character is not provided, such apparatus as that shown in my co-pending application will not eliciently op-. crate.

In the accompanying drawings I have shown for purposes of illustration only a pref ferred embodiment of my invention. I have also shown a portion of the apparatus shown and described in my above referred to copending application in connection with which my improved pad of covers may be used.

Each cover as shown in the drawings comprises a main body portion 2 having an opening 3 therein.l The front part of the main body ofthe cover is cut away and turned rearwardly under the cover and the edges 4 are fastened together by gluing or otherwise so as to form a pocket 5 on the bottom of the cover extending transversely thereof. The pocket may be glued near the center, as at 6 and 7, in order to divide the same into two separate pockets, Y

` A Hap 8 is integrally attached to the body of the cover at the` front endthereof and extends rearwardly into the opening 8. This ilap 8 is not connected to the main body of the sheet around the periphery of the opening 3, except at the front end thereof. The iiap 8 has a plurality of openings 9 therein, which openings aid in the disposition of the cover after use in the manner hereinafter described.

.Each cover is perforated near its rear edge along the line 10. This is desirable so that the covers can be fastened together so as to form a pad. The covers are fastened together by means of staples 11 and a U-shaped reinforcing member 12 which is adapted to surround the portion of the covers lying to the rear of the perforated line 10. This portion of each of the covers and also the reinforcing member 12 have openings 13 therein which are adapted to receive pins 14 of the dispensing apparatus and hold the pad of covers therein.

An envelope 15 is attached to the rear of the pad and is adapted to surround a substantial portion of the flaps of the covers in the pad. The top and bottom faces of the envelope to the rear of the flaps are above the general plane of the pad. The envelope which receives the flaps is turned downwardly at substantially the widest portion of the openings in the sheets and from this point to the front of the envelope it rests below the generalplane of the pad. This arrangement serves to raise the rear portion of the flaps above the general plane of the pad and to lower the forepart of the flaps below the general plane of the pad. This prevents the flaps from becoming wrinkled and torn as the lowermost cover of the pad is removed therefrom.

A string or thread 16 is fastened to the rear of the pad by one of the staples 11 and passes around the flaps of the covers through the rearmost openings 9 in the flaps This string prevents the fla-ps from sliding forward relative to the main body of the sheets and aids in holding them in position and in preventing them from wrinkling and tearing and ther-eby preventing the apparatus from functioning properly.

The pad of covers which I provide also has a sheet of waxed paper 17 around the pad to the rear of the pockets in the covers. This waxed paper serves to lubricate the lowermost cover of the pad as it is removed therefrom and prevents it from sticking and tear ing in the paper magazine.

Pads of covers of the above described character may be advantageously used in apparatus such as thatv partially shown in Figures 1 and 2 and more fully and clearly shown and described in my above referred to copending application. Tn such apparatus the seat 18 is normally retained in the cabinet 19. Means is also provided in the cabinet 19 for moving the seat from the cabinet to a usable position over the bowl 20 which is lolocated adjacent the cabinet. This movement of the seat is effected by motors which are adapted to drive sprocket chains 21 which are connected to the seat by links 22. Link guides 23 surround a portion of the chains and prevent them from buckling as the seat is moved forward from the cabinet to a usable position over the bowl.

As the motors begin to operate the seat is propelled forward. The door 24 of the cabinet is opened by means of rollers 25 on levers 26 which engage cams 27 on the rearwardly extending arms ofthe door, which arms are mounted on the shaft 28. An ejector plate 29 is located immediately beneath the pad of covers. It is actuated by the initial movement of the motors and is moved forward through levers 26. As the ejector plate 29 advances, it engages the pockets 5 of the lowermost cover in the pad and pulls the cover forward with it. As the cover is pulled forward, the string 16 breaks the portion of the flap between the opening 9 and the rear end of the flap, and the cover is separated from the balance of the pad, it being broken along the perforated line 10.

A finger plate 30 is also moved forward by the movement ofthe seat and is adapted to open the pockets of the cover pulled forward by the ejector plate. As the seat 18 advances to usable position over the bowl, it enters the pockets 5 of the cover and pulls the cover forward with it. The balanceof the covers in the pad aid in smoothing the lowermost cover on the seat as it advances to usable position.

When the seat assumes a usable position over the bowl, the flap 8 drops from the plane of the cover into the toilet bowl and rests therein. After use the seat. 22is automatically withdrawn into the cabinet and as it moves rearwardly, the flush valve 31, which is connected to a supply line 32, is operated and flushes the bowl. The ap 8 of the cover resting in the bowl serves to pull the seat cover from the seat as the bowl is iiushed. The openings 9 in the flap prevent the same from riding on the flush waters and materially aid in removing the cover from the seat.

Bythe provision of the envelope surrounding the flaps of the covers in the pad and the string 16 which is adapted to hold the flaps in proper position, they are prevented from sliding forward and wrinkling as the lowermost cover in the pad is removed therefrom. If such means are not provided, the flaps will become torn and wrinkled and will cause the apparatus to not function properly.

Thile I have shown and described a pre ferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that it is not to be limited thereby but may be otherwise embodied within the scope of the following claims.

T claim:

1. A pad of sanitary seat covers comprising a plurality of seat covers each comprising a main sheet of flexible material having a centrally disposed opening therein and a flap of like material extending into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at the front end thereof, and an envelope adapted to surround a portion of each of said flaps.

2. A pad of sanitary seat covers compris- 'ing a plurality of seat covers each comprising a main sheet of flexible material having a centrally disposed opening therein and a flap of like material extending into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at the front end thereof, and an envelope adapted to surround a portion of each of said flaps and elevate the rear portions thereof above the general plane of the pad.

3. A pad of sanitary seat covers comprising a plurality of seat covers each comprising a main sheet of flexible material having a centrally disposed opening therein and a flap of like material extending into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at the front endL thereof, an envelope adapted to surround a portion of each of saidv flaps, and means for preventing the flaps from sliding forward relative to the main body of the sheets.

A pad of sanitary seat covers comprising a plurality of seat covers each comprising a main sheet of flexible material having an opening therein and a flap of like Inaterial extending rearwardly into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at the front end thereof, an envelope adapted to surround a portion of the flaps and par-V tially elevate them above the general plane of the pad, means for holdingthe flaps in position, and means partially surrounding the pad, adapted to provide a smooth surface for the lowermost cover to slide over as it is withdrawn from the pad.

5. A pad of sanitary seat covers comprising` a plurality of seat covers each comprising a main sheet of flexible material having` a centrally disposed opening therein and a flap of like material extending into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at the front end thereof, and an envelope adapted to surround a portion of the fiaps and to elevate the rear portions thereof above the general plane of the pad and to hold the fore portions thereof below the general plane of the pad.

6. A pad of sanitary seat covers comprising a plurality of seat covers, each comprising a main sheet of flexible material having a centrally disposed opening therein and a iap of like material extending into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at the front end thereof, and means for holding the fore portions of the flaps below the general plane of the pad. f

7. A pad of sanitary seat covers comprising a plurality of seat covers each comprising a. main sheet of flexible material having a centrally disposed opening therein and a flap of like material extending into said opening and integrally attached to the main sheet at the front end thereof, and means for elevating the rear portions of the flaps above the general plane of the pad and for lowerin` the fore portions below the general plane of the pad.
