Patented Jan. 12, 1932 JOHN.- narsnson onv A'rtrnmaoizo MASSACHUSETTS 7 Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view 1 to permit unwinding movement of the smarts cameras son Ba ama machines Applieatioir filed June 17,
This-invention relates to certain-new and useful improvements in" spindle carriers .for braiding machines. I
he primary object of the invention is to provide a spindle-carrier for braiding machines wherein a latch device associated with the thread bobbin is released from the bobbin in the presenceof tension on the thread to perfeeding the thread-l -A'II10I6 specific object resides in the provision of rack andpinion devices operated by feeding movement of the thread for releasing a latch deviceengaged with the bobbin bobbin mi-t unwinding movement'of the bobbin for for feeding the thread.
I guide pulley and pinion;
Figure 2 is a rearvelevatio-nal view;
Figure-3 is a fragmentary side elevational view showing, the guide pulley slideand a rack: associated therewith and taken. on line 47-4 oi? Figure 35 showing the tensioning spring associated with the thread guide The-spindlecarrier comprises a base sectiomfi designedin theusual mannerto produce a movement through a tortuous path saidbaseh has a spindle 6 rising therefrom for the support of a thread bobbin 7,
a bearing for the roller 25, the disk 32 bethe: lower flange of the thread bobbin, being provided with a circular. series of depending ratchet teeth tions 20-and in a cutaway portion 24 in the 1931; Serial No. s45,128.-' I n that carries a guide eye-12 for threads from the bohbinZ. A- cross-arm '13 extendsbetweenzth-e guide rods lOat a point adjacent .thelupper end ofthe bobbin 7 and-carries a guideeye lt' for'the bobbin thread and also} 55 a dependingstop arm 15 :for purposes;presently to appear;
A rack framelncluding arackbar -16 is slidably associated with the guide rods 10,
the upper end ofthe rack bar 16 carrying a- Go cross-head -17 having openings therein to reeeive the guide rods 10. Thelowerend of the rack bar 1 16 being attached to a plate 18 having:openingsthereinto receive the guide rods and the lower end ofsaid' rack bar is fur-e6 vther bent at right angles'to vprovide a later: ally extending stop arm 19 positionedbneath the lower flange of the bobbin fi and engaged with the ratchet teeth 8. I
A slidevframe ismou'ntedupon the guide rodslO and "is of -substantially.- u shape, in top plan, havingside walls 20 anda back w'allo2l the lower ends of the sidewalls 2 0 flaring outwardly as atj 22,- while bearing fianges23: carried by the upper edges of the sidewall sect-ions2O are received on the guide rods 10 to provide bearings for the slide v frame. Atensioned roller is -journalledfin; the slide frame between the side wall sec 80 back wall 21 The guide roller 25 has a center i bearing hub 26and a laterally opening. pocket 27,to-reeeive a tensioningcoilspring28, one end-29iof which is anchored to the closed side 30 of the roller-while the other end of the spring-isanchored as at 31 to a rotatably adjustable disk 32 closing the side opening po cketi27, the spring 28 being rotatably ten- I sione dby the disk 32 which is held in its ad- ,justed position by a clampingjscrew 33 en gaged therewith and extending through the side wall-{sections 20' of the slide frame as shown inFigure 4, the screw pin 33 forming "Tar ofthe bobbin? passes th-rough the guide eye 14 and-then. through a crossbpeningj 36' of lower movement, the stop arm 19 at the r lower end of the rack bar being spaced from' the ratchet 8 upon the lower flange of the bobbin 7. When the thread 7a is fed outwardly of the upper guide eye 12, the tensioned roller 25 carried by the'slide frame is raised on the guide rods together with the slide frame and said rack bar is also elevated to position the stop arm 19 in engagement with a tooth of the ratchet teeth 8, and at this time the upper end of the slide frame is engaged with the depending stop upon the cross head 13. A further pull upon the thread 7a will rotate the roller against the tension of the spring 28 and cause the pinion 34 to move the rack bar 16 downwardly for disengag ing the stop arm 19 from the ratchet teeth 8 whereupon a certain'quantity of thread will be unwound fromthe bobbin 7 and fed to the braiding machine. When tension upon the *8 to prevent further unwinding movement of the bobbin 7. s
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent and while there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. i
' I claim:
