M invention relates to unitary synchronize talking machine and picture exhibitor devices.

The principal object of my invention is to provide a combined talking machine and picture exhibitor so synchronized as to display an appropriate picture in harmony with the sound produced.

Another object of my invention is to provide means for accomplishing this result which willoperate intermittently to change the picture exhibited maintaining harmony. between the sound and thought. and a concurrent continuity. in each. I

A still further object of my invention is to accomplish the above objects with a minimum of cost in manufacturing and assembly and yet without sacrifice of efficiency in the resultant roduct. I

The evice is particularly interesting to children in conveying to their-minds both throu h sight and sound a single story such as ary had a little lamb. The invention provides a device so simple that it may be operated by children.

In the particular embodiment of'myinvention selected for illustration:

Referring now to the drawings the device comprises a casing 8 within which is housed 1929 Serial No. 372,677.

the talking machine operating mechanism indicated generally as 9 and including the gear 10. A bracket 11 secured to the mechanism 9 forms a journal for the wheel 12 carrying a gear 40 constantly in mesh with the gear 10. A projecting lug 13 near the pe- ..riphery of the wheel 12 is provided to actu- 20 and in the rear of the condensing lens assembly 21, all being secured within the casing 22. A slotted block 23 in proximity to the condensing lens assembly 21 and the support 24 together act as a guide for the film strip and carrier hereinafter described. A bracket 38 secured to the block 23 in any suitable manner and carrying the plain glass 39 protects the film from the heat passing through the condensing lens and maintains the film in focal adjustment.

The film 25 on which is a series of appropriate pictures has metal binding 26 on both its edges to insure its rigidity, prevent damage to the film and hold the film in proper focus in its carrier. A film strip carrier 27 with sides 28, 29 carries the film 25 and its flanged end 30 limits its downward movement as hereinafter described.

A level 31 pivoted to the support 32 has projections 33 and 41, the latter being normally held in the path of travel of the lugs 34 on the carrier side 29, by means of spring 35. The lug 13 contacts with the end of lever 31 with each rotation temporarily moving the projection 41 out of the way of lugs 34 permitting the film to drop by gravity from one lug 34 to the next lug above. When the lever 31 is moved, the carrier lug 34 then resting on the projection 41 slides off the projection 41 and the carrier drops to the next lug 34, the lug first resting on projection 33. When the lever 31 resumes its normal position by means of s ring 35, the lug 34 last mentioned slides 0 projection 33 onto projection 41 where it remains until the next movement of lever 31. When the record has been placed through and the. last picture on the film shown, the mechanism 9 is stopped by the usual operating lever 36. The lever 37 pivoted onto the casing 22 is then moved toward the rear of the casing 22contacting with the lever 31 thereby moving it away from the carrier 27 so that the film and its carrier can be removed from the device.

I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States: 1. A unitary talking machine and picture exhibitor having in combination means for continuously actuating said talking machine,

a strip member carrying a series of aligned pictures-thereon adapted to move through said exhibitor by gravity and a lever normally in contact with said member operated intermittently by said talking machine actuating means permitting said member to move from one picture to the next succeeding picture after each intermittent operation and means on said lever preventing said member from moving a distance greater than the space from one picture to the next succeeding picture.

2. A unitary talking machine and picture lugs thereon adapted to move through said exhibitor by gravity, means for limiting the downward travel of said carrier, a lever normally in the path of travel of the lugs on said carrier said lever having two points one'vertically above the other with which said lugs contact so that in its movement downward a lug contacts first with the upper point and then with the lower point preventing the caririers moving more than from one lug to the mally in the path of travel of the lugs on said carrier, said lever having two points one vertically above the other with which said lugs contact so that in its movement downward a lug contacts first with the upperpoint and then with the lower ,oint preventing the carriers moving more tian from one'lug to the next lug above at a time, a wheel continuously actuated by said talking machine actuating means and a lug on said wheel moving on each cycle of rotation the lever out of contact with the film strip carrier temporarily, permitting said film strip and carrier to move from one lug to the next succeeding lug.
