D. 0. FORD CONDIMENT CONTAINER Filed Dec.
Patented Dec. 8, 1931 "UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Devil) 0. Form, or NORFOLK, VIRGINIA, AssIeNon or FORTY-NINE PER CENT TO'A. c.
HARE AND DAISY H; CORNETTE, orn OF NORFOLK, VIRGI IA CONDIMENT cQNTAINER Application filed December 2, 1929. Serial No. 411,134.
The invention relates to an individual container for salt, pepper and analogous food seasonings generally, dispensed by means of asha'ker. 8
-The invention provides a package adapted to becarried in the pocket and holding sufficientcondiment for a single service or sitting, and'which may bediscarded after use.
:The invention supplies an article of the ,-10 character specified which inay be Cheaply marketed and distributed by merchants at a small cost and which carries an advertise- 1nent that will be preserved, so long as the Tpackage remains intact, because of the con- The invention furthermore, providesa package the body of whichconsists of a singleblank of paper treated torender it waterproof, and susceptible of being readily and cheaply manufactured, and which is sealed --aga'inst-moisture to preserve the contents in a" manner. to insure positive discharge when required.
' .Further improvements and novel details of the construction and arrangement will be brought out more specifically in the following description and illustrated in the drawings hereto attached in which corresponding and like parts are designated by the same reference characters.
E-trate a preferred embodiment of the invention minor changes 1n the construction and arrangement may be resorted to without der 5 partingfrom' the principle of the invention-as 5 the direction of the arrows,
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 on the line 4-4 of Figure 2, i T
Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 4,
Figure 6 .is a view similar to Figure 2 show- [It'is noted that while the drawings illus ried in the vest pocket and is constructed of thin material such aspaper which is paraffined or otherwise treatedto render it waterproof. The article may alsobe utilized as an advertising medium which may be' dis-' tributed by merchants at a comparatively small cost. device it is not likely to be thrown away until after use thereby assuring the advertisement beingin the keeping of thepossessor for an appreciable time.
Referring to Figure? of the drawingsthe same illustrates a developed viewof the body of the container which is constructed of a single blank of Waterproof sheet material such as paralhned paper. The blank is elongated and includes side portions 1, end portions 2, terminal portions 3, and intermediate portion 4, the several parts being foldable along the dotted lines. The parts 1 of the blank correspond toopposite side walls of the body. The parts 2 correspond to opposite end walls of the body.- The parts 3 form the bottom and the part 4 the top of the'body.
When the blank is folded to form the body it is made secure by means, offlaps 5-and the overlapping of the terminal portions 3, said parts being secured by glue'or other suitable adhesive. The inner or op'posingends of the parts 2 correspondingto-the' top of. the end walls are indented asfiindicated at 6' which are of V form. Theend 'walls 2 are folded inwardly to admit of the side walls 1 converging towards the top of the container. The
part 4 corresponding to the top conforms to the edges of the indentations 6 and are made secure by means of the flaps 5. The top 4 and, end walls 2 constitute V-shaped folds producing an accordion pleat'in the completed article, as. indicated most' clearly in Figures 1 and?) ofthe drawings. Openings 7 areformed in. the side portions comprising Because of the n'atureof the the top 4 and are disaligned so that the openings'in'one side are completely closedby the opposing portion of the opposite side. As
The holtler'issealed means of a closure 8, preferably in the form of a cap and con-- structed of light waterproof material such as paraliin. The upper portions of the side walls 1 of the holder are compressed to hold the side portions of the top 4 in contact and the ca'p'8issl1pped upon theupper end of the holder and secured theretohy a suitable adhesive. It is observed that the openings 7 in one portion of the'top wall are closed by the iinperf'or-ate' portion of the opposite side thereby" excluding moisture and preventing esca e of the contents.
Suitable advertising matter, not shown, may-appear onthe side and end walls of the holder and in w consequence the device constitutesa c'heap medium for advertisinginatter to be br'ought totheattention' of the public.
Beeauseof-theutility of thear t-icl'e it will be preserved= until it has served; its purpose. The terminal portions 3result in the formation of a reinforced bottom;- When' it is desiredto'usethearticle thecap 8 is'slit inline with the spaces'of the side portions-compris- -ring the top; This maybe effected by means of the thumbnail,-knife'blade or other instrument. 1 After the -caP S'has been slit the upper portions of thesidewa'lls spring apai-t exposing heopenings 7 and by ii'iverting the conta' iner'asindicated in Figure 6,the contents will discharge throughthe openings 7 the delivery: beii'ig assured by reasonof absence cfmoisture; Y v T Having e thus described the invention, I claim:- Y
1'.- A'condiinent; holder having a V"-shaped f'old'able top formingan accordion pleat-with the sideportions'bordering upon thefoldin contact, one side portion having discharge -.openings normally closed bythe opposing side portion of thetop'. v @2." condiment holder" shapedi-foldable topforming" an accordion pleat having discharge openingsin hoth side portions which are disaligned to admit of theopenin'gs'in one side'p'ortion being closed by the i mperfor'ate part of the opposing side port-lent v I 3'; A condiment holder including" a V- shaped foldable-topforming an; accordion :pleat having a rowflof? openings in each side :portion bordering'upon'the fold, said rows of openings havingast'aggered arrangement, whereby one; side portion formsa closure for .theopjenings in the opposing side: portion.
v 4. A cont-ainerof-vthe character specified including a 'V- lessees foldable top conforming to the indentations of the end walls and attached thereto and provided with discharge openings which are adapted tobeclosed by a folded side portion of the top in Contact therewith.
6; A container including opposite foldabl'e walls'a nd a foldabletop, the latter having discharge openin s, and a cap securedto'the upper portion or the :container and sealin the same and normally retaining the top 0 the container in folded position, and adapted to be slit in line with the space formed be"- tween the meeting faces of the-folded side portions of the top. I
7'. A container including side walls and foldable end walls having their upper ends indented, and a fo'ldable top conforming-to the indentations of the end walls and attached thereto, and having discharge openings in aside' portion adapted' to be normally closed by the opposing side portion of the top in contact therewith, and a closurefitt'ed over the upper portion of the container and holding the side portionsof the foldable top in co'ntact'and adapted to be slit toadmit of the spreading of the top and the discharge ofthe contents of the container.
8. A container formed from a single blank of sheet material ofelongated form and coin prising end portions, an intermediate foldable top portion having openings therein, end wallportions having their inner ends" indented, terminal bottom portions, and securing flaps, the several parts correspondingitw the enclosingwalls of the container and bein secured by the terminal bottom portions and flaps which are adhesively' connected.
9; A condiment container including a body formed of a's'ingle blank including a bottonr: foldable end walls indented in their top portions, and a foldable top forniedwith discharge openings and conforming to the indentations of the end walls and attached thereto, and aclosing cap secured to'the body and 'holdmg the side'portions of the top 1n contact and adapted to'be slit'to admit of discharge of the contents.
. In t estimonv whereof I affix my signature.
