WATCH HOLDER Application filed December 23, 1930. Serial No. 504,367. V
This invention relates to an improved watch holder which is primarily designed for use in a motor vehicle for conveniently hold- 'ing an ordinary pocket watch in a clearly wise constructed to fulfill the requirements of a structure of this class in a highly satisfactory manner.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention showing the ap proximate position of the watch therein.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the retaining section of the device.
Figure 3 is a perspective viewof a slightly different embodiment of the invention perception.
Referring now to Figure 1 it will be seen that the holder is characterized primarily by two parts or sections namely an upper section and a lower section and these companion sec tions are adjustably connected so as to nicely and firmly embrace the watch and securely hold it in position and at the same time permit it to be easily applied and removed. In this species of the invention the lower section 4 is in the nature of a die stamping. It includes a V-shaped body portion 5 and marginal edge extension constituting keeper hooks or seats 6. These are so located as to receivethe curvaturemarginaledgeportion of the watch 7. In the apex portionof the V- shaped portion 5 is a fastening and'anchoring screw 8. The upper part 9 of the device is primarily in the form of a clamp. In any event it is formed of a single length of wire bent between its ends to form an elongated actual practice if desired.
loop portion 10 through which the clamping 'screw 8 extends. The end portions of the v armsare brought together and *are 'secured in assembled relationship through the medium of a collar 11 and the free end por tion s are directed laterally and shaped as shown to form resilient retaining fingers'12 which engage around the stem ofthe'watch T. This facilitates application and removal of the watch. In'the arrangement shown in 00 Figure 3 the parts 4a are formed from a single length of wire bent between its ends to provide a pair of diverging arms 13 having terminal hooks 14. There is a twisted shank portion at 15 and a retaining eye at 16 to 05 receive the fastening and anchoring screw 17. The upper section9a is also formed from a single length of wire bent upon itself to form a loop 18 to register with the eye 16 then too the shank portion is twisted as at 19 to render '0 it rigid and the fingers 20 are bent identical with the fingers 12. already described.
In practice the upper and lower section of the holder, irrespective of the formation thereof are overlapped and adjustably connected together to accommodate the particular timepiece placed therein. Then the fas- V tening screw is placed in position as this serves simultaneously to attach the device as well as to secure the companion sections in adjusted relationship. When once the device is adjusted and mounted for a particular sized watch, it is an easy matter to attach and detach thewatch desired or permitted to retain constantly in position without a thought of damage by accidental displacement.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to' obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a
more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary. 7
Minor changes in shape, size, and rear- 055 rangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in In both embodiments of the invention the lower parts 4 or 4a as the case may be may be 10 I generally denoted as a saddle or a stirrup for reception of the watch. The upper section may be known as a clip or clamp and is associated adjustably with the saddle so as to permit convenient accommodation of various sized watches and to insure proper maintenance thereof while at the same time permittin easy application and removal.
fiaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A watch holder of the class described comprising a lower section formed from a single length of wire bent upon itself to form a pair of outwardly diverging arms having hooked terminals, the intermediate portions of the wire being twisted to form a supporting shank, and an adjacent anchoring eye, a screw associated with said eye, a second section including a single length of wire bent upon itself to form an elongated loop for adjustable connection with said eye, the free end portions of said second named section being bent laterally to provide resilient retaining fingers.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JESSE GEARING.
