Description

Nov. 10, 1931.
w. $NEED SAFETY RAZOR Filed March 15, 1950 A i fiilifiiililhl lnwililn W Q. INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 10, 1931 WELLINGTON A. SNEED, OF DAVENPORT, IOWA SAFETY RAZOR Application filed March 15, 1930. Serial No. 436,122.
My invention relates to improvements in safety razors.
The objects of my invention are:
To provide a small safety razor or hair cutter which can be used to cut the hair in the nose and ears without danger of cutting the skin or the membranes.
I attain these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, -1n which,
Figure 1 is a plan view of my device, of approximately normal size;
Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a similar section showing the cutting blade omitted; I
Figure 4 is an enlarged cross-section on the line 4ll of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail of one of the cutting blades.
My razor comprises a handle, 1, preferably made from a solid piece of metal with an extended portion, 1a, thereof, milled out into semi-tubular form to form a holder for the blades, 5.
The edges of the extended portion, 1a, are formed with teeth, 2, projecting outwardly therefrom and the teeth, 2, are slightly inclined inwardly.
On each side of the holder I mill out a seat, 4, for the blades, 5. The upper corners of the blades, 5, are ground off at an angle, 5a, and lugs or shoulders, 3, are left upon the first and lastof the teeth, 2, to form detents for the blades, 5. The shoulders, 3, fit closely against the upper corners, 5a, of the blades and keep them from slipping out of the seats, t.
In order to assemble this razor convenient- 1y, I provide a fixed retainer, 6, which is a small, semi-circular band of metal, the middle of which is secured to the body, or extended portion, 1a, by a rivet, 6a, or other suitable means.
A removable retainer or holder, 7, formed of a semi-circular bar or plate curved to conform to the curve of the body, la, is secured to the body by a bolt, 8, and thumb nut, 8a. The removable retainer, 7 is hollowed out or curved upwardly at the pointwhere itcontacts with the fixed retainer, 6. c
I prefer to have the teeth, 2, extend outwardly a little beyond the cutting edge of the blades, 5, so that theblades will not come in direct contact with the skin or mucous membrane, but will cut the hairs without touching the skin. However, as the arrangement of the teeth and the cutting edge of the blade may be varied to some extent to meet individual preference, I do not limit my invention to the particular preferred .form shown.
It is obvious that the handle and body may be made from one piece of metal or they may be made separately and suitably secured together and the means for securing the blades against displacement may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention.
In the operation of my device, the razor is assembled by placing-the blades, 5, in the seats, 4, with the lower edges of the central portions of the blades being held between the ends of the fixed retainer, 6 and the adjacent side walls of the body, 1a. The removable retainer is then placed in position, the bolt, 8, inserted and the thumb nut tightened down thereon. I prefer to have the removable retainer, 7, so proportioned that the sides thereof will bear against the blades, 5, and bend the blades slightly in order to secure them securely in place and give the most favorable cutting angle for the edge.
IV hen thus assembled, the cutting end of the razor may be inserted in the nose or car and the hairs therein cut by a shaving motion without danger of cutting the skin or mucous membranes.
I claim:
1. A safety razor comprising a semi-circular body, a handle united thereto, seats formed in the body on opposite sides thereof adapted to receive small blades, a small semi- Y circular plate of metal secured to the body adjacent the middle of the seats to form a fixed retainer, a pair of small blades seated in said seats, a. removable retainer having a semi-tubular body the edges of which bear against the blades for substantially the full length thereof, seatable within the body, and
means for securing the removable retainer to the body.
2. A safety razor comprising a semi-circular body, a handle united thereto, seats formed in the body on opposite sides thereof adapted to receive small blades, a small semicircular plate secured to thebody adjacentthe middle of the seats and forming a fixed retainer, a pair of small blades seated in said 19 seats, a removable retainer having a semitubular body the edges of which bear against the blades for substantially the full length thereof, and a bolt and thumb nut adapted to secure the removable retainer to the body.-
5 3. A safety razor comprising a semi-circular body with toothed sides the teeth being inclined inwardly on the body, a handle united thereto, seats formed onopposite sides of he body to receive small blades, a fixed retainer formed by a small metal plate secured to the middle of the body adjacent the seats, a pair of small blades fitted to said seats, a removable retainer having a; semi-tubular body the edges of which bear against the blades for substantially the full length thereof seatable within the body and means for securing the removable retainer to the body.
a. A safety razor comprising a semi-circular body with toothed sides, a handle united 3i? thereto, seats formed on opposite sides of the body to receive small blades, a fixed retainer formed ofa small metal plate secured to the middle of the body adjacent the seats, a pair of small blades fitted to said seats, a remov- 35 able retainer having a semi-tubular body the edges of which bear against the blades for substantially the full length thereof seatable within the body and means for securing the removable retainer to the body, the teeth be- 40 ing inclined on the sides and extending slightly beyond th'eedges of the blades.
In testimony whereof he afiixes his" signature.
