This invention relates to an improved construction of vests for mens wear; and the object thereof is to provide, ina manner as hereinafter setforth a reversible vest which 35 when worn with one side out will constitute a double-breasted vest and when wornwith the other side out will provide a single-breasted vest. 1

A further object of the invention is to r10 provide, a vest forming an element of a suit of clothes and which will enable the suit to be worn either with a single or a double breasted vest. I H l It often happens that a customer desires a suit of clothes with a double-breasted vest or with a single-breasted vest, and although he admires a suit, will not purchase the same unless the suit is provided with the styleof vest desired, under such conditions the trier chant loses the sale. I Now'to reduce to a minimum the loss of such sales is one of the ad.- vantages attained by this invention, as the suit will have as an element thereof a reversible vest in accordance with this invention whereby the merchant can show to the customer that thefvest is not only of'the style wanted, but can be reversed to provide a dif-. ferent style when desired. p y a A further object of the 'nvention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth a reversible vest including a collar for the double-breasted style and further including a top button-hole employed in the singlebreasted style, and with such button-hole concealed by the collar when the vest is'worn in the double-breasted style, under such conditions overcoming the necessity of --providing the collar with a button-holeto form a part of the single-breasted style of vestj.

The section 2 comprises a body portion 9 formed of two complementary, opposed parts 10, 11, but the outer end edge outline of section 2 is difierent from that of section ,1. The inner end edge outlines of both sections are the same.

The back is formed of two opposed, complementary parts 12, 13 and between the said parts 12, 13 is secured the inner end of the sections 1, 2. The back 8 and sections 1 and 2 are cut away to provide arm-holes 14.

The parts 7, 8 of section 1, below an extension 4: are extended and bent downwardly to oppose the outer face of part 7. The extended portions of the parts 7, 8 provide a two fold continuation 15 of the collar 16 and a two fold lapel 17 extended from :the outer end of the continuation 15, the latter being of uniform width throughout and of greater width than collar 16. The continuation 15 and lapel 17 oppose and conceal the upper marginal portion of the outer face of part 7. The lapel 17 gradually decreases in width from its inner to its outer end'an'd is substantially of triangular form. The top edge 18 of section 1 is provided by the bend formed by that extension 4c which merges into continuation 15 and the bend formed by the extended and bent over portions of the'parts 7, 8. The front edge of section 1 is indicated at 19. The outer end of lapel 17 merges into the upper end of thefront edge of section 1. The inner end of lapel 17 is of greater width than the outer endof continuation 15 and projects laterally from such outer end. The

section 1 in proximity'to edge19 is provided 7 with a set of three buttonholes arranged in superposed spaced relation.

The parts 10, 11 of section '2 below the other extension 4 are extended and bent :downwardly to oppose the outer face of part 10. The extended portions of the parts 10, 11 provide a two fold continuation 21 of the collar 16 and a two fold lapel '22 extended from'the outer end of continuation 21, the latter being of uniform width and of greater width than collar 16. The continuation 21 and lapel 22 oppose and conceal the upper marginal portion of the outer face of part 10. The lapel 22 is of less length than lapel 17, substantially of uniform widthth roughout and of-rectangular contour, of greater width than continuation 21 and has its outer end edge '23 incurved from its free or outer side edge to the top edge of section 2. The top edge 24 of section 2 is provided by the bend formed by extension 1 which merges intocontinua-tion 21 and the bend formed by the extended and bent over portions of the parts 10, 11. The front edge of section 2 is indicated at 25 and is of greater length than the edge 19of section 1. The section '2fin proximity to its front edge 25 is provided with a set of five button- .breasted vest. When the vest is used as a single-breasted vest therow of buttons 29, five in number coact with the button-holes 26 and the lapels, continuationsthereof and holes 26 arranged in superposed spaced relation. The upper buttonhole 26 of the set does not extend through lapel 22, but is concealed by the outer end of the latter. The outer end edge 23 of lapel 22 is angularly disposed with respect to and merges into'the outer end of the top edge 24 of section 2. The edge 23 of. lapel 22 is spaced throughout from the front edge 25 of section 2, and the latter in proximity to the set of buttonholes 26 is provided with a row of three spaced superposed buttons 27 and such row inclines slightly rearwardly from bottom to top. The outer end of lapel 22 does not have its outer end merge into the top of front edge 25 of section 2, in a manner as the outer end of lapel 17 merges into the top of the front edge 19 of section 1,.ibut lapel 22 is set up in a manner which may be termed as having its outer end cutoff to provide the end edge 23, and the purpose of setting up lapel 22 in this way will be presently referred to. The lapel 22 is of less length than lapel 17. The part 7 of section 1 is provided on its outer face with a row of buttons 28 extending at a rearward inclination but spaced a greater distance from the button-holes 20 than the distance between the buttons 27 and the button-holes 26. Thebuttons 27 are aligned substantially with'the three lower button-holes 26. The buttons-28 do not align with the button-holes 20. The buttons 27 coact with the buttonholes 20 for detachably connecting the sections 1 and 2 together and said buttons 27 also coact with'the row of buttons 28 to give the appearance of a double-breasted style of vest.

When the buttons 27 are coacting with the button-holes'2'0 the section 1 extends overseetion 2 and the upper button-hole 26 associates with the upper button of-v a row of buttons 29 secured on the part8 in proximity to the openings 20, and this .will prevent the bulging'of the vest, when used as adouble- .extensions'ar'e concealed; I

The lapels 17 22, continuations 15, 21, coact with theextensions 4 to provide a collar extending from the outer end of section 1 to the outer end of section .2. An extension 4. continuation 15 and lapel 17 provide a half collar. Theother extension 4, continuation" 21 and lapel 22 also form a half collar. The half collars are connected together at their 7 inner ends.

Thelength of section 2 is less than that of section 1. The front end edge of section 2- is of greater length than the front end edge of section 1. Each section has an inclined top edge but the length of the inclined top edge of the section 1 is greater than that of section 2.

Each side of the vest is provided with pockets 30.

WVhen worn as a double-breasted vest section 2 is overlapped by section 1 and when used as a single-breasted vest section 1 is overlapped by section 2.

The parts 7, 8 are of like material. The parts 10, 11 are of like material. The parts 7. 8. 10 and 11 can be of like material, or the parts 7. 8 can be of a different material and ofa different shade or design with respect to parts 10, 11.

Forming the collar from the bent over extended portions of parts 7 8, 10 and 11 provide for a smooth, uninterrupted and nonbulgingtop edge for each front section, and which would not be the case'if the collar was formed by separate pieces sewed to the top edges of the front sections.

What I claim is:

1. A reversible garment to provide a noncollared, non-lapelled single breasted style of vest and a collared, lapelled double breasted style of vest comprising a body portion consisting of a pair of front sections and a back, each section and said back being formed of two complementary parts, the parts of said sections being secured to the parts of the backs, the parts of each sectionbeing extended at the top and folded to provide a twofold collar, the parts of one section including extended bent over portions concealing the top marginal portion of one face of one part of such section and to provide a two-fold. continuation of said collar and a substantially triangular shaped two-fold lapel extending from the outer end of such continuation, the parts of the other of said sections including extended bent over portions concealing the top marginal portion of one of the parts of suchsection and to provide a two-fold continuation of said collar and a substantially rectangular two-fold lapel extending from the outer end of such continuation and of less length than said other lapel, the other part of each of said sections having its top marginal portion permanently e-xposed, said body portion formed with two spaced sets of buttonholes, one set of a greater number than the other, said body portion having one face providedwith spaced rows of superposed spaced buttons, each row of a like number, said body portion having its other face provided with a row of superposed spaced buttons of a number greater than that of either of the other rows, said row of buttons of the greatest number coacting with the set of buttonholes of the greatest number to provide a single breast style of vest and the other row of buttons and other set of buttonholes coacting to provide a double breast style of vest, and said rectangular lapel concealing the upper buttonhole of that set of buttonholes of greatest number.

2. In a reversible garment to provide a parts of the backs, the parts of each section being extended at the top and folded to provide a two-fold collar, the parts of one section including extended bent over portions concealing the top marginal portion of one face of one part of such section'and to provide atwo-fold continuation of said collar and a substantially triangular shaped two-fold lapel extending from the outer end of such continuation, the parts of the other of said sections including extended bent over portions concealing the top marginal portion of one of the parts of such section and to provide a two-fold continuation of said collar and a substantially rectangular two-fold lapel extending from the outer end of such conhereto.
