Description

1931- G. J. BARRETT PAPER REWIND FOR ADDING MACHINES Filed Oct. 22, 1927 VENTOR B Y A TTORNE Y5 Patented Nov; 3; 1
UNITED STATES QFFiCEl Guam J. BARBETIYOF nvansron, ILLINO S, assrenon TO PORTABLE TADDINGYMA CHINE COMPANY, on QHIGAGO,- ILLINOIS;
PAPER nnwmn FOR ADDING" Machines Application filed October22, Serial No. 227,980.
This invention relatesto improvements in It Wi'lllthus be seen that if the adding the paper control for adding machines. The objects of the invention are:
First, to provide a simple and efiicient means of winding up the printed roll automatically after printing.
Second, to provide such structure which is available for use as an attachment to anyv printing adding machine;
Objects which pertain to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear [from the description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devicesand meansdescribed in thefollowing specification The invention is clear- -ly' defined and pointed outin the claims.
A device embodying my'invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying; drawings,
in which: r
Fig. 1 is a detail side elevation of the rear part of an adding machinewith my improved paper control means in place.
i Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. I
Fig. 3 is a detail vertical sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 2, through the paper rolls and platen. Y
The parts will be identified by their numerals of reference which are the same in all views. 1 1 is the rear. portion of the case of an adding machine, 2 is the type, 3 is the platen roll supported on the usual brackets 4, 5 is the bracket which carries the paper supply roll 6, on spindle 61 manipulated by twirlers 62. Guide fingers 51 are struck in from the sides of the brackets 5 to contact with the roll of paper 63 and keep it in central position; 7 is'the removable re wind roll for automati- Cally winding the paper after it is printed.
This roll iscarried on spindle 71 and is I platen 8 and the end is inserted into the S10 73 for attachment to that roll. 1 The bracket is slotted with open ended slots at 52 to receive the ends of the spindles 71 which allow the roll 7 to drop down and rest by gravity on the roll of paper 63.
are in contact and'the driven roll will have" the same peripheral speed as the driver Y The paperxcan be readily pulled out into a loop to accommodate the to and fro action of theplaten, and, ofcourse, any undueslack canbe taken up bymanipulating the twirler 72. No 'COlllpGIlSiltlIlQ' devices or tension means are required. Thestructure is simple and'needs no such additions to make it effective. a
Of course the device does not need to accommodate this featureon machineswhere thetypeacts on a fixed platen roll having a step by-step vice is equally well adapted.
A loop of paper can be pulled out for inspetion and it can be readily wound up again by manipulation of the twirler. 4 The re-wind roll, acting by gravityyand being readily removable, permits a loop of the paper to be feed out for embracing the platenor for'inspection purposes and the same can be connected for re-winding with great facility. Whereit isne'cessary to loop the paper around tensioning devices thiscannot be accomplished.
While I have shown my construction as supported on an attached bracket, it willjbe clear -th'at thesame' can be produced in .varifeed to which the re-wind deous forms and might be more completely ina corporated into the adding machine itself.
I desire to claim the invention in the specific form shown and also broadly as pointed out in the claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an adding machine the combination of a paper supply roll supported in suitable brackets containing upwardly projecting open ended slots at each side abovethe roll spindle, an oscillating platen for printing, a
