IMPROVEMENT IN PAR LOR-SKATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,835, dated October 3, 18 76 application filed March 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LOGKWOOD, of Danville, Montgomery county, Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Parlor-Skates, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to spring-brakes for parlor-skates, an attachment which has been heretofore used so as to bring the brake to bear upon the front wheel and connect it with a lever operated by the leg.
The brake which constitutes my invention is a spring, from which a string extends down through a guide and up to the,ha-nd of the operator, in such manner that the brake is forced down on the Wheel by pulling up on the string.
Figure l is aside elevation of my improved parlor-skate, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation.

A is the foot-piece; B, the wheels; 0, the ankle-brace; D, the brake; E, the cord, and F the guide for the cords. The foot-piece has mortises G through it for the straps by The spring which it is attached to the foot.

The latter is ordinarily held up by spring against the foot-piece; but when the brake is to be applied the operator pulls the cord E, which passes downwardly through the holes of guide and up to the free end of spring. The brake is thereby brought down upon the rear wheel of skate at the option of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A parlor-skate provided with brake D, attached to the end of a spring, H, lying along the bottom of foot-piece, said spring being also provided with a cord that passes through guides F, and up within reach of the skater, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
