My invention relates to full fashioned knitting machines, and more particularly to the fabric take-off mechanism therefor.
As well known, full fashioned knitting machines comprise a series of similar sections which simultaneously knit separate stocking fabrics or webs that are drawn off the needles by take-off mechanism ordinarily consisting of a common fixedly mounted weight operated shaft provided with individual fabric attaching devices.
During the formation of the loops, the needle bars of the various sections move'vertically as wellas horizontally relatively to this take-off shaft, with consequent tensioning of the webs which causes lengthening of the.
loops and bending of the needles. Various spring arrangements have heretofore been utilized to overcome these detrimental effects but all such devices are more or less troublesome, and do not satisfactorily overcome the undesirable effects mentioned.
The primary object of my invention is to provide novel fabric take-off means adapted to prevent variation in the tensioning of the fabric during cyclic operation of the needles,
and I accomplish this by movably mounting such means and actuating it substantially in gccordance with the movements of the needle The invention comprises the novel elements, features of construction and arrangement of parts in cooperative relationship as fully disclosed by the following detailed description and accompanying drawings of one embodiment thereof, reference to which will make the above and other objects, as Well as attendant advantages more readily apparent.
Referring to the drawings Fig. 1 is a partial cross-sectional view through one section of a full fashioned knitting machine having my invention applied I thereto.

Ordinarily, in the so called leggers the fabric take-off device comprises a rotary shaft 23 which is operated in well known manner by a weight, connected thereto by a rope (not shown and on which as many fabric take-up r0 ls 24 are secured as there ing generally connected with each take-u roll 24 in the form of straps 25 provided with hooks 26 at their outer ends adapted to hold a rod 27 that passes through the welt 28 of the stocking fabric or Web 29.
In order to prevent periodic stretching strain upon the fabric during movement of the needles 5 through their cycle of operation, various spring arrangements have heretofore been. incorporated either directly in the rolls 24, to permit the same to slightly turn under unusual tension, or in the straps 25 to permit them to give under similar conditions,
and these somewhat relieved the strain on the stocking fabric, however, it will be apparent that such spring arrangements are bound to is movably mounted and actuated substantially in accordance with the movements of the needles 5, To this end, I provide the usual take-ofi shaft 23 and operate it as heretofore in well known manner, however,

Itwill be noted, that the lever arrangement which moves the needle bar 6, forms a substantial mechanical parallelogram and that therefore, the horizontal reclprocatory. movements imparted to the needles and bearings 30, and consequently the fabric takeofi' means generally, are practically synchronized; all parts moving 1n unison and in the same direction at all times. In order that possible slight variations in tension, due to operating or other difierences in the various sections of the machine can be compensated for, the rolls 24: are adjustably mounted on the shaft 23 by means of set 25 screws 31 passing through collars or flanges 32 forming part of the rolls 24..
Of course the fabric take-off device shown and described may be changed, modified, and connected in various ways to attain the same 1 desirable advantages, without departing from the invention herein set forth and hereinafter claimed.
I claim: 1. In a straight lmitting machine, the com- 35 ,bination with a reciprocatively operated needle bar, of a fabric take-0E roll correspondingly reciprocated to maintain a relatively fixed distance between said roll and bar.
2. In a straight knitting machine, the comm 3 bination with a movable needle bar, of a movable fabric take-ofi device, and means for similarly actuating said needle bar and device in umson.
