Description

Oct, 6, 1931. F. R. ERBACH 1,826,345
FLUID COOLER Filed April ll, 1927 Fmdgrth REYbaEi-i By M Patented Oct.. 6, 41931 UNITED STATES raient VPMEml OFFICE FREDERICK R. ERBACH, F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR T0 IKEL'VINATOR` C OR- y PORATION, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN,\A CORPORATION 0F MICHIGAN FLUID coonnn My invention relates to refrigeration, and particularlyto providing a cabinet for refrigerating materials used in dispensing soft drinks, and the principal object of my invention is vto provide a new and improved V cabinet of thistype. In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part of this application I have shown, for
purposes of illustration, one form which my invention may assume, and in these drawinofs:
Figure 1 is a horizontal section through a cabinet embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of l5 Figure 1, while Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
The embodiment of my invention disclosed herein comprises a cabinet 11 for dispensing soft drinks provided with at least one refrigerated compartment 12 in which is disposed a series of coil containers 13 for soft drink materials having their end turns 14 extended upwardly for connection with the dispensing faucets (not shown).
As is well known in the business of dispensing soft drinks the materials must be refrigerated, but the refrigerating temperature must not be reduced to the freezing point. This would be likely to occur if the refrigerantI expansion unit were disposed in close proximity to the container coils. I therefore provide a refrigerant expansion unit consistl ing ofa coil 15 having its inlet 16 connected by a pipe 17 to the outlet of a refrigerant condenser (not shown) and its outlet 18 connected by a pipe 19 to the inlet of a refriger* ant compressing mechanism (not shown), and disposed at a point sufficiently removed from the material containing coils 13 to prevent any freezing of the contents of the coils 13.
Such a disposition of the container coils and the expansion coils however -is not conducive to the best refrigeration asthe large body of brine between the coils 13 and the eX- pansion coil 15 decreases they response of the expansion coil 15 to the demands of the material containing coils 13. To increase the speed of reaction of the expansion coil 15 to '1927; serial 'Na 182,650.
the demands of the materialfcontaining coils '17311 attach to the'refrigerant expansion' coil I15 in position to extend intothe space between the container coils 13 and the refrigerant expansion coil 15 relatively large plates 16.55 formed of material having high heat conductivity thusprovidingvfor removal of the heat promptly from the coils 13. Y
From the above disclosure it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that I have tao provided a cabinet for refrigerating soft drink materials in which an efficient refrigerating temperature can be maintainedwithout danger of freezing such materials.
It will therefore be apparent to those C skilled in the art that the embodiment of my invention herein shown and described accomplishes at least the principal object of my invention.
At the same time it also will be obvious to those skilled in the art that the embodiment of my invention herein shown and described may be variously changed and modified without. departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof, l5 and it therefore will be understood that the disclosure herein is illustrative only, and that my invention is not limited thereto.
I claim:
1. In a fluid cooling apparatus, a chamber' for containing hea-t transfer liquid, a fluid circulating coil submerged in the liquid at one side of said chamber, a` refrigerant expander submerged in the liquid at the side of said chamber opposite said coil, said expand- 85 er being connected with apparatus adapted to cause limited congealing of the .liquid in said chamber therewith, and fins in intimate contact with said expander extending adjacent said fluid circulating coil, said fins being of -=9 sufficient length to penetrate the congealed Huid adhering to said expander. n
2. A refrigerator unit for refrigerating soft drink fluid required to be Vmaintained at a temperaturehigher than freezing, com- 9 prising: a cabinet having a refrigerated com-y partment containing a heat transfer liquid, container means for the liquid to be refrigf erated located in said compartment, refrigerant expander means located in said comif? partment at a distance from said container means, and fin means carried by one of said means and extending outwardly therefrom into the space between said container means and said expander means adjacent the other of saidvr means.
3. A refrigerator unit forf refrigerating soft drink Huid required to be maintained at a. temperature higher than freezing, comprising: alca-binet having afrefrigerated comel partment containing ay heat-transfer liquid, container means for the liquid to be refrig-k erated located in said compartment, refrigr erant expander meanslocatedin said compartment at a distance from said container means-and iinmeans carried by'saidrefrigerantvexpander means and extending outwardly therefrom substantially across the space between said"container means and said expander means.
`In testimony whereof I hereunto afiixrmy signature.
FREDERICK R. ERBAGH.
