This invention relates to perambulators and especially to perambulators oi the construction described in the specification of the prior application No. 11,843 of 19:25.
The invention has among its objects to improve the resilience of perambulators whose bodies are mounted upon the axles in the use of massive elastic bearing blocksor the like in amanner similar to that described in the specification of the said prior application, while at the same time disposing the body at a greater distance from the ground than would be otherwise possible in the use alone of massive elastic bearing blocks set into the ody.
According to the invention the wheel axles are disposed beneath the massive elastic hearing blocks or their equivalent or beneath the body of the perambulator or the like, and the body is mounted upon the axles by members that are interposed between the massive elastic bearing blocks or their equivalent and the axles and that are adapted to impart additional resilience both longitudinally and transversely with respect to the body.
The invention comprises the constructional features hereinafter described.
The invention is hereinafter described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a perambulator with the springs provided according to the invention, the side wheels in front being removed tor the sake of clearness.
Figure 2 is an end elevation partly in crosssection and corresponding to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a similar side elevation to Figure 2 of a modification.
In carrying the invention into eiiect according to one construction the elastic bearing blocks a are mounted within a perambulator body 7) in a manner similar to that described in the specification of the said prior application but instead of passing the wheel axles proper through the respective pairs of massive elastic bearing blocks a, bars 0 that are advantageously of a length less than that of the respective axles (Z are passed through, and the ends of the respective bars 0 that extend beyond the respective blocks a of each pair are supported by a transversely disposed member 6 that may take the form of a fiat strip of steel, the main part of which is disposed beneath the body of the perambulator Z) and parallel with the bar 0 so that its ends are diverted upwardly to support the respective ends of the bar 0. The transversely disposed members 6 may be mounted upon and in line with the respective wheel axles cl and may e secured to them by bolts (Z or otherwise, it being understood that the axles 61 may be provided in any usual form and that the wheels may be mounted thereon in any manner that is usual. 7
it will be understood that the pairs of massive elastic bearing blocks a may be mounted within, beside, beneath or upon the per ambulator body 5 in substantially the same manner as indicatedin the specification of the said prior application and that the bars 0 may be definitely located in position by similar means to those described with respect to the axles in the said. specification.
Furthermore the axles (5 may be connected together by parallel disposed ties or braces f in order to ensure that the axles d shall be maintained in substantial parallelism and in position immediately beneath the respective bars 0.
It will be furthermore understood that the invention-is not confined to the use of transversely disposed members 6 and supporting bars 0 passing through the massive elastic bearing blocks in the manner described, for
instead of such transversely disposed members being used, pairs of separate and transversely disposed members or springs may be provided in position beneath and adjacent the respective blocks a of each pair and that such members may suppor the respective ends of the bars 0 or that such bars may be dispensed with and the transversely disposed member or members or spring-s mav be connected to a separate part passing through the adjacent bearing block or that the separate transversely disposed members or springs may be so formed that a part may be diverted inwardly or outwardly to engage the respective bearing block.
It will furthermore be understood that instead of providing the parts 6 transversely disposed they may be mounted longitudinally and immediately adjacent the sides of the body and beneath it in the manner illustrated in Figure 3. In such case the parts 6 may be disposed one at each side and beneath the body so that the respective ends of the strip of steel of which the respective parts 6 are formed may he turned over at its ends so as to support the respective ends of the bar 0 mounted as in the modification first de scribed.
It will thus he understood that the invention is adapted in its application to various designs and constructions of 'perambulator or like vehicle and that the details of the design and construction may be varied from that described in the'specification' of the prior application. Thus. the massive elastic bearing blocks may be mounted at the outside of the perambulator body or beneath and that any method or" mounting the elastic bearing blocks may be employed and that the intermediate parts between the elastic bearblocks and the axles may be disposed immediately beneath or beside the elastic bearing blocks, that is to say, at the inside or at the outside of the blocks or beneath them, and that these intermediate parts are so formed or provided as to impart additional resilience tothat afforded by the massive elastic hearing blocks themselves.
Furthermore it will be understood that instead of mounting the intermediate parts upon the axles of the perambulator or other vehicle they may be mounted upon some part of an under-frame or chassis to which the axles may be connected or of which the axles form a part.
I claim 1. In perambulators means for mounting the body upon the axles, comprising the axles, the body, bearing members transversely disposed above and parallel with the axles, massive elastic bearing blocks transversely mounted in the opposite positions in pairs in the body through which the said bearing, members pass, and means by which the said bearing members are supported from the axles, substantially as hereinbefore described.
2. In peramhulators means for mounting the body upon the axles, comprising the axles, the body, bearing members transversely disposed above and parallel with the axles, massive elastic bearing blocks transversely mounted in opposite positions in pairs in the body through which the said bearing members pass, means by which the said bearing members are supported from the axles, and means by which the axl s are rigidly connected together, substantially as hereinbefore described.
