- In the paper box art it is desirable to make boxes of such construction that the blanks from which they are assembled may be cut with a minimum of waste and that the boxes, when assembled, be strong and durable. In
many cases it is also desirable that the construction of the box be such that it may be held in assembled relation' without the use of glue.;
According to the invention, a paper board x is provided which has the above desirin addition, has
able characteristics and other ldesirable features out. While the box h y uses, it is particularly useful as a mailing carton. The blanks may be appropriately cut and scored and shipped flat from the box manufacturer to the box customer. The box. customer may assemble the boxes fromv/the blanks with a minimum of labor and with no gluing operations.
According to the invention, the box is made from a single blank of paper board in such manner that its bottom portion is formed by a particularly ingenius arrangement of overlapping layers or flaps held in proper relation by the inherent construction of the box. The top is formed by a number of overlapping aps and, if desired, the box ris locked or sealed by means of a paper fas- 5 tener. Furthermore, provision may be made to allow easy connection to the paper fastener of an envelope or other piece of stationery which it is desired to accompany the box through the mails. Y'
The invention also consists in certain new 'and original features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.

Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, the box is made from asheet of paper board appropriately cut and scored as shown in Fig. 3. In this lfigure the continuous lines represent cut edges, while'the dot and dash lines represent scores or weakened lines on which the paper board is bent to form a box.
Thel box comprises a front wall 1 having secured thereto outer side walls 2. Each outer side wall has a bottom flap 3 and a top flap 4, the top flap having a projecting tongue 5. The front wall has connected thereto a top wall 6 which in turn has connected thereto a top fly 7 with an aperture" 8 therein.,
The back wall 9 is connected to the front wall l by a bottom wall 10.` The backwall has connected thereto on each-side thereof an inner side wall 11 and at the top thereof a top fly 12 having an `aperture 13.
To assemble the box, the outer side walls 2 and also the bottom wall 10 are bent at right angles to the front wall 1, the bottom flaps 3 being bent at right angles to the outer side walls 2 and disposed above thev bottom wall 10.' The inner side walls 11 are bent at right angles to the vback ew showing the box on through the Ktop rm of box using a wall 9. The back Wallis bent at right angles tothe bottom wall 10 and the inner side walls 11 are disposed within the outer side Walls 2 as shown in Fig. 4. The top Haps 4, top Wall 6 and top Hies 7 and 12 may remain in upraised position.
The material to be shipped is placed in the box and the top Haps 4 are bent to the position shown in Fig. 4 with the tongues 5 interlocking. The top wall 6 is then bent down to overlap the top Haps, the top Hics 7 and 12 being placed in upraised position, this bringing the tWo apertures 8 and 13 in register. A paper fastener 14 having washers 15 to prevent tearing is passed through the apertures, this completing the sealing or locking of the box. If desired, an envelope 16 or any other article may be fastened to the box by placing it between the top Hies 7 and 12 and passing the paper fastener therethrough, as shown-in Figs. 1 and 2.
If it is desired to use a sticker or label to close the box instead of the paper fastener, considerable stock may be saved in making the blanks. This modification is shown in Figs. 5 and 6. The blank used in these figures is similar to that shown in Fig. 3 except the top Hy 7 is cut 0H and the top Hy 12 is cut to a size substantially equal to the bottom wall 10. In this modification, the bottom portion thereof is assembled as above described. After the material is placed in the box, the top Ha s 4 are interlocked the same as above descri ed and the top Hy 12 is bent thereover. The top wall 6 is then bent over the top Hy 12 and a sticker 17 is pasted around the top and front and back walls of the box. Y
There has thus been disclosed a paper board box whose blanks may be cut with a minimum of waste. Practically all Aof the material enclosed within the outer confines of the blank is utilized in such manner as to .make a-box which is unusually strong and durable. The parts are so related that the box may be put together in such manner as to hold the contents thereof without any gluing operations. In the species shown in Figs. 1
to 4, the box is sealed or locked by means of` a paper fastener, this'having the additional advantage that an accompanying letter may be simply and conveniently secured thereto. In the species shown in Figs. 5 and 6 considerable material may be saved and the box ma be locked or sealed by the paster on which the address is written. The boxes are rugged in construction and will give satisfactory service even though subjected to unusually harsh usage. Y
While certain novel features of the invention have been shown and described and are pointedout in the annexed claims, it will be understood that various omissions, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation side Walls connected thereto, va bottom Hap,A

A paper board container made from a single blank comprising a front wall, outer side walls connected thereto, a bottom Hap anda top Hap connected to each outer side wall, a back wall, inner side walls connected thereto, a bottom wall connecting said front and back walls, a top wall secured to said front wall, a top Hy secured to said back wall, said bottom Haps seating over and within ner side walls being disposed inside said n my hand.
