One o the objects of my invention is'to provide a novel center bearing structure which will permit the use of draft sills and bolsters of maximum depth.
Another object of my invention is to provide adequate support for the center bearing portion of the underframe.
Another object is to eliminate 'the material, labor and inconvenience of assembling a center plate with the underframe. Y
Another object of my invention is to provide integral center plate, bolster and draft sill structure whereby the maximum strength for a given amount of metal may be obtained and in which the members will not be weakened by perforations for rivets or bolts and in which the complete structure will maintain its rigidity indefinitely without necessitating frequent inspection or tightening of securing elements as is required 1n built up structures.
Another object is to arrange a renewable wear plate and my center plate structure so as to avoid movement between them without using bolts for holding them together. t

Figure 5 is a bottom view of the structure shown in Figure 4, the wear plate being omitted. 5 The underframe structure adjacent to the center plate includes a bolster comprising a rear wall l, afront wall 2, a top wall 3 and a bottom wall 4v. Uratt sills 5 terminate at the bolster trout wall and center sills 6 terminate at the bolster rear wall.
The bolster bottom wall 4 .includes an in tegral depending projection 7 adapted to form a center plate element which will t into a corresponding truck center plate. This simple construction eliminates securing elements Vbetween the center' plate and the bolster and strengthens the whole structure. This center plate element is detailed in Fig. ures 4 and 5, and is shown as being provided with a cup-shaped wear plate 8 which may be renewed at intervals and which will receive the Wear resulting from relative rotation of element 7 and the corresponding truck center plate member. yThe renewable wear plate feature permits of a snugly itting body and truck center plate irrespective of the age 4of the car. f
Inorder to prevent relative rotation ot the element 7 and wear plate 8, I provide a non-circular recess 9 in the central part of the element and a correspondingly shaped projection 10 on the wear plate 8. This arrangement permits the wear plate 8 to maintain a full circular contour for engagement with the truck center plate and provides a supporting structure for the same throughout its inner area. y
Other forms of recesses and projections could be used, such as square or rectangular ones or the projecting element could consist of a luv or restricted diameter adapted to positively engage a wall of the recess to prevent a relative rotation of the parts. The projection could be provided on the center plate instead of on the wear plate and the latter could be provided with the recess. The main requirement is that the frame member and the Wear plate member have interengaging elements at least a part of which are disposed eccentrically relative to the center plate contour so as to resist relative rotation of the frame member and wear plate member. It is not necessary that the inter-engaging elements be located centrally of the center plate structure and I contemplate the exclusive use and serving to prevent relative movement of vio the wear plate and the body of the center plate.
Further strengthening is afforded by the intersecting vertical webs 11 and 12 located between the front and rear walls of the bolster and. immediately over the center plate element. Diagonal webs 13 extend between the adjacent ends of sills 5 and 6 and form with the bolster walls a complete box like structure.
The above described construction is preferably embodied in a one piece casting although it is within the scope of my invention to use two or more separately formed parts welded to each other. of rivets and bolts, the perforating 'of connected pieces with attendant loss of sectional area, the overlappin of joined pieces with bulky sections, and t e labor ofriveting or bolting parts, frequently not readily accessible, and the necessity of maintaining tightly assembled joints.
The details of the structure may be varied substantially without departing from the spirit of my invention and I contemplate the exclusive use of such modifications as come within the scope of my claims.
I claim:
1. A railway vehicle frame member having an integral center plate portion, the lower face of said portion being provided with a non-circular element for engaging `a separate wear member.
2. A railwa vehicle body bolster including anintegra center late, the lower face of which is provided witii a non-circular recess for engaging a separate wear member.
"53. A railway vehicle body bolster having an integral downward projection with a circular periphery adapted to rotatably fit into the truck center plate member and provided with a non-circular recess in its lower face.
4. In combination, a railway vehicle body bolster having an integral center plate element adapted to project into a truck center member, and renewable means surrounding said element and interlocked therewith at points spaced from its periphery and adapted to receive the wear due to relative movement of said element and member.
5. In combination, a railway vehicle body bolster havingpan integral center plate elen ment adapted to project into a truck center plate member, renewable means surrounding said elementand adapted to receive the wear due to relative movement of said element and member, and means spaced from their peripheries preventing relative movement of said renewable means about said element.
6. In combination, a railway vehicle body bolster having an integral center plate element adapted to project into a truck center Either form avoids the use Lemme newable wearing means litting over said element and provided with a projection iitting into said depression for preventing relative movement in a horizontal plane.

9. In a railway vehicle, a frame vmember having an integral center plate element, a renewable wear element fitting over said center plate element, there being a non-circular depression in one of said elements and a corresponding projection on the other of said elements.
10. In a railway vehicle, a frame member, a center plate element, a renewable wear element fitting over said center plate element, there being a non-circular projection on one of said elements, and a corresponding shoulder on the other of said elements.
11. In combination, a railway car center plate having a non-circular recess, a renewable Wear plate, and a projection on said wear plate fitting the recess in said center plate and, preventing rotation of said wear plate in relation to said center plate.
12. A car bolster structure having spaced vertical walls, and a bottom web between said walls and having a downward projection with center plate contour and a center pin opening, and parallel vertical webs spaced from said opening extending transversely of said Walls and above said projection within the periphery of the same and merging therewith.
13. In a structure of the class described, a bolster including spaced walls, spaced draft j sills terminating at one side of said bolster,
more widely spaced center sills terminating at the other side of said bolster, diagonal webs extending across said bolster between corresponding draft sills and center sills, and a center plate between and integral with said sills, webs and bolster.
14. In a structure of the class described, a bolster, spaced draft sills terminating at one side of said bolster, more widely spaced center sills terminating at the other side of said bolster, diagonal webs between corresponding draft sills and center sills, a center plate between and integral with said sills, webs and bolster and intersecting vertical webs above said center plate and integral with said sills, webs and bolster.
15. A one piece casting comprising a bolster including spaced walls, spaced draft sills terminating at one side of said bolster, more widely spaced center sills terminating at the other side of said bolster, diagonal webs eX- tending across said bolster' between corresponding draft sills and center sills, and a center plate between and integral with said sills, webs and bolster.
16. A one piece casting comprising a bolster, spaced draft sills terminating at one. side of said bolster, more widely spaced center sills terminating at the other side of said bolster, diagonal webs between corresponding draft sills and center sills, a center plate between and integral with said sills, webs and bolster and intersecting vertical webs above said center plate and integral .with said sills, webs and bolster.
17. A one piece casting comprising a car bolster and integral center plate having a circular contour and a non-circular recess for receiving a correspondingly shaped wear plate element. l
18. In a railway vehicle, a frame member having a center plate element provided with a. circular bearing face, there being a noncircular depression in said element spaced from the periphery thereof, and circular Wearing means fitting over said element and provided with a projection fitting into said depression.
19. In combination, a railway vehicle frame member, and a center plate device with a circular periphery, said device having a part eccentrically disposed relative to and spaced from the axis of the device and from said periphery for engaging a separate wear plate to prevent movement of said wear plate relative to said device.
20. In combination, a railway vehicle frame member, a center platedevice with a circular periphery, a renewable wear plate fitting over said device, there being interengaging elements on said device and plate spaced from said periphery and from the center plate axis to prevent movement of said wear plate relative to said device.
21. A car bolster structure 'including a downward projection with a center plate contour and with a center pin opening, and vertical webs integral therewith and extending transversely of the length of the bolster and above said projection on opposite sides of said opening.
22. In a structure of the class described, draft sills, a bolster including a downward projection with a center plate contour and with a center pin opening, and vertical webs extending transversely of the length of the bolster and above said projection on opposite. sides of said opening and between the saine and said draft sills.
23. A car bolster structure including a downward projection with a center plate contour and with a center pin opening, and vertical webs extending along the length of the bolster and above said projection substantially within the periphery of the same and on both sides of said opening.
24. A car bolster structure including a downward projection with a center plate contour and with a center pin opening, and vertical webs extending longitudinally and transversely of the bolster and above said projection substantially within the periphery thereof, and at the sides of said opening.
25. A car bolster structure including a downward projection with a center plate contour and with a center pin opening, and a plurality of straight vertical webs extending above said projection and forming a polygon shape around said opening and substantially Within the periphery of said projection.
